With disgruntled Serena

25

u/Hall_bro14 Sep 16 '26

Yeah, a tennis ball through the skull tends to do that

You wake up dead.

2

Afterlife has good service

2

u/pruwyben Sep 16 '26

First person omniscient narration.

223

u/HollyTheMage Sep 15 '26

Fascinated with how this is presented; the blind self confidence, the expectation that people should perform happiness because it is aesthetically pleasing, and OP getting sniped by a tennis ball because Serena Williams is so professionally competent that it defies the laws of physics and biology

185

u/lolburger13 Sep 15 '26

I believe this one was born when it was revealed most men answered they believed they could score one time in a tennis match against serena on a survey

75

u/Apprehensive_Bar3812 Sep 16 '26

Jeez, people REALLLY tend to underestimate professionals of any given field, don't they?

93

u/KrackBat Sep 16 '26

If they’re women? Absolutely.

"with just a little bit of experience"

Oh my fucking God how are you still this dumb in 2026? 20 bucks said that whole thing about bears vs men was lost on you too, wasn't it? Do everyone a collective favor and stop having your own opinions. You aren't cut out for it.

14

u/Exile56678 Sep 16 '26

The subreddit they linked says it all really. That sub is made for incels and misogyny.

33

u/MVRKHNTR Sep 16 '26

Crazy to look at a professional athlete beating another professional athlete and taking away that someone with "just a little bit of experience" could beat one of them.

You're who's being made fun of here.

14

u/Exile56678 Sep 16 '26

Nothing like posting the famously misogynistic sub to prove a point about sexism. You're the type of person we're talking about.

24

u/mieri_azure Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

Obviously a pretty good male tennis player could score against her, but your average man who's only played some tennis very occasionally for fun would absolutely not.

People hear "on average men are stronger than women" and assume that means EVERY man is stronger/better at sports than EVERY woman which is very untrue. A trained woman will beat an untrained man.

If a man and a woman both train weightlifting the man will lift more than the woman. If neither train the man will loft more than the woman. If a woman trains weightlifting and a random man who doesnt comes in to compete with her she will lift more than him

9

u/Elitist_Plebeian Sep 16 '26

See how quickly you moved from "objective truth" to completely incorrect speculation? That's why the former statement is so often assumed to be sexist. What other purpose could it be serving?

12

u/UrethraFranklin04 Sep 16 '26

Your belief is unfounded.

3

u/Leeuhhhhh Sep 16 '26

You 100% can't beat any professional woman in a sport dawg, promise.

3

u/Phailadork Sep 16 '26

Yeah but that's a low rated (still professional) male tennis player not just a random person. Serena would smoke randoms. The fact she lost to some like 48434874 rated guy doesn't change that because of the fact he was rated and people severely underestimate the skill of professional athletes. That goes for any sport btw.

2

u/Hange11037 Sep 16 '26

The whole “I’m closer to LeBron than you are to me” deal.

2

u/Phailadork Sep 17 '26

Unironically, that's exactly it. The worst professional athlete in any sport in the world would shit on even the most fit/skilled regular person. They could even go back to a college program (if it exists for that sport, or the closest equivalent) and still lay pipe there too.

The gap is so fucking unbelievable that I'm not entirely surprised people don't really get it but at the same time I'm just sitting there like... come on man.

1

u/Acceptable-Box6012 Sep 16 '26

Tennis isn’t the same as like a deadlift though, a pro woman like Serena would annihilate any even trained man who wasn’t a pro

23

u/salmalight Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

The answer depends on how the question is asked though. "Do you believe..." the answer is obviously no but if it even slightly suggests there's a chance they would test my answer, then I'm lying my ass off on that.

I've not touched a racket since school, I know I'd be dead but I'm not gonna ruin my chance at a day out getting fed to Serena Williams by being a wuss! I'm giving a full throated yes and hoping she follows the explanation and apology over my sobbing.

19

u/LowlySlayer Sep 16 '26

Unfortunately the ball passed cleanly through your skull, killing you instantly.

3

u/globglogabgalabyeast Sep 16 '26

Not a bad way to go. Instant, painless, iconic. All I ask is that the video be shown at my funeral

3

u/salmalight Sep 16 '26

Angles people, I want clean angles for the montage

10

u/Asheyguru Sep 16 '26

I listen to self-reps in court all day.

Yes. Yes, they do.

1

u/QwertyAsInMC Sep 16 '26

they made an entire show about this btw called Pros vs Joes

1

u/TerryWaters Sep 17 '26

Nah, mostly just women.

27

u/PinsToTheHeart Sep 16 '26

If Serena Williams showed up with zero experience to compete against me in sport I played regularly, I still don't think I would score against her.

6

u/TheMike0088 Sep 16 '26

Unless its chess (still don't understand why thats counted as a sport), and scoring is defined as taking a piece. That I think I could do vs serena williams.

18

u/Gaylaeonerd Sep 16 '26

You were so preoccupied by the moment of taking that first piece you didn't see her serving the tennis ball, killing you instantly.

Nice try, chump

11

u/TheMike0088 Sep 16 '26

Ah yes, the infamous tennis ball gambit, how could I have been so foolish.

2

u/Stunning_Box8782 Sep 16 '26

what? You couldn't win from a person with 0 experience in the sport you play regularly?

5

u/PinsToTheHeart Sep 16 '26

I was using hyperbole to highlight the absurdity of any non professional thinking they're going to score against her in a tennis match.

Especially since Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all time regardless of sport or gender.

1

u/lj_w Sep 16 '26

I mean no, I’d destroy her in basketball

13

u/TheRenFerret Sep 16 '26

I feel like this might fall under the “a person with 9/10 as much training is much easier for a master to deal with than someone with 1/20” principle. Amateurs act in ways innovatively wrong

3

u/Hobbes______ Sep 16 '26

Ya not gonna apply here

0

u/really_stupidfrog Sep 16 '26

Nah it was like 12%. Still more than actually could, but honestly not that crazy in my opinion.

10

u/firedmyass Sep 15 '26

it is masterfully presented

44

u/Borgmaster Sep 15 '26

I love that it starts off offensive and finishes how you wished it would.

4

u/firedmyass Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

as a thuddingly mediocre white guy aware of my own limitations, I felt both seen and vaguely attacked

oops looks like someone likely named Braden didn’t like this

9

u/Mini_Raptor5_6 Sep 16 '26

We did a side profile of a lab skeleton for the first day of my art class and I did a reference to this tweet when I was done

4

u/vincemousier Sep 16 '26

I love this tweet because it's written exactly how Patrick Bateman monologues in the American Psycho book 😭

2

u/It_just_works_bro Sep 16 '26

It just does that sometimes.

2

u/GrandNibbles Sep 16 '26
