"this character can't be x because the original writers... " when talking about one of the characters with most variants ever in fiction across literally hundreds of different media and stories
That's not a different interpretation tho, that's just an established multiverse, plus the tweet not understanding what the creator actually said. Stan Lee said the original Spiderman wasn't gay because he wasn't written as such and shouldn't be made to be something he's not, which is what Kira was referring to. But, as you say, they are multiple Spidermen, and there are gay ones amongst them.
Moreso when most media like that nowadays is a multiverse, so technically speaking Petra Parker breaks shite of the canon, as it can be used as a justification, with no issue whatsoever, "yeah, this continuity belongs in an universe outside of the official ones"
idk bro i feel like unless specified it should be assumed that 616 comic spiderman is what hes talking about and also some writer did make him gay for a second iirc
I'd like to imagine Andrew Garfield was just like:
"Hey imagine if Peter was gay and MJ was a dude... Like let's say MJ stood for Michael Jordan, hey crazy idea what if we got Michael B. Jordan to play MJ haha, just a suggestion though I think he'd play the role really well and I don't mind doing any romantic scenes, no really like I don't mind if we need to kiss or make out or anything haha... No what? I'm not saying this because just want to kiss Michael B Jordan... I'm telling you it would be a good casting choice just, think about it ok?"
I feel like unless you have no idea about spider man then you just wouldnt get it. Spider man miles can be gay, spider man steam punk can be gay, spiderman cant be gay. If it bothers you make your own oc 🙄
him being straight is not a core aspect of his character though? if mj was a dude and Peter was gay or bi literally nothing writing-wise would change, it'd only be a big deal if Peter always had a huge sign or shirt with the text "I AM A STRAIGHT MAN" or something
Yeah true, but why do you think it’s one of his unchanging things? He can be gay and everything else would be the same, theres no narrative or character purpose to him being straight. Nobodies disputing it’s an unchanging about him, the point is asking why it’s never been changed, since it would be of no real consequence.
I mean the krakoa era was pretty eccentric. Jokes aside there has been an alternate universe of Wolverine depicted in a relationship with Hercules. Moreover Chris Claremont has tried to make Wolverine bi, being stopped by pretty quickly by marvel editorial. Chris has a history of mentioning wanting to implement queer elements in characters, but being stopped by higher ups not allowing it. Begs the question how many of our characters we think are totally straight were written to be queer without realizing it.
Also I can’t tell what you were asking earlier “Why would you make Spider-Man gay if you could do that to wolverine, nobodies done that” ???
I'm sorry but y'all can't look at modern Spider-Man, with all this multiverse bs, dead fucking stone cold face and say that not even a single ONE of those infinite versions of Spider-People that can and ever will be conceived in history can be gay.
Y'all confuse what actually are the core aspects of what makes a Spider's story uniquely theirs while still being one of many. Stop focusing on the fact that the hypothetical love interest has a dick and focus more on the relationship dynamics itself and how the hero manages it.
I'm talking about peter parker as a character not just him being spiderman and i never said there cant be a gay alternate spiderman im talking ahout 616 comic peter
Same thing goes. Peter can jump between Gwen and MJ all day, and there's no problem with it. What about Harry Osborne? Just because it might not have yet be done doesn't mean it shouldn't, or won't. If we let history dictate what we should or shouldn't do all day we'd still be pushing wagons aand tilling buckwheat all day
that could be said about any character abouf anything its never explicitly said 100% without a shadow of a doubt that his spider powers don't make him attracted real spiders
If nothing would change, why change it? I don't know, but as a bi man that often feels pulled between two worlds, I think it's important to value what makes us different as well as what makes us the same. Being gay or straight doesn't change your value as a person, but it does make huge differences in who you are and how you interact with the world. I think it's dismissive and insensitive to trivialize that kind of stuff by saying it doesn't matter, because it DOES matter. can there be A gay Spider-Man? of course. There can be a trans Spidey and a non-binary one too. But "base" 616 Peter is straight, and I don't get why it's okay to twist his sexuality on a whim any more than it would be to do it to these theoretical gay/bi/trans/nb/etc Peters/Petras.
You don't understand, there are no straight people. Everyone has to be gay because there's too little representation. At the same time people will tell you that if a character didn't say out loud that they are straight, they aren't. Which should mean that most characters ever existed are either bi or pan. But still no representation
