It's not about scientific sense for that person, it's about presenting AI as being high-prestige and clever and sciency by putting it into something that is also high-prestige, clever, and sciency. They aren't thinking about E = mc^2 in any context other than it being a famous thing that the guy whose name is a synonym for "genius" wrote.
