Ask Luxembourg Cost of Living struggle is real

I am noticing that I am no longer able to meet the end of the month, while i had cut down on my expenses and always have my budget ready.

My salar.y is roughly 65k, with the 13th month obv taxed at half too (i know, I work at one of the stingiest banks here :’) ). Ive been looking for other jobs but the market is acting weird.

I feel that the cost of living has increased tremendously since last year! Am I the only one feeling this way? How are you guys coping?

P.S. I’m single, not Pacs’ed

Ask Luxembourg Current EU Trainees in Luxembourg

WP Group for Current EU Trainees in Luxembourg (October 2026 Cohort)?

Hey everyone! 😊

I was wondering if there's an active WP group specifically for trainees who have been selected for EU institutions in Luxembourg (Blue Book, Schuman, CJEU, ECA, etc.) for the October 2026 cohort.

Or perhaps a general WP group for interns currently living in Luxembourg?

I've found a few groups for applicants, but I'm specifically looking to connect with people who are already there.

If anyone has an invitation link or knows where I could find one, I'd be super grateful!

Thank you so much! ❤️

More and more struggles… Meanwhile, we keep hiring overseas workers and issuing “STUDENTS” visas for fields with a 99% unemployment rate.

Ask Luxembourg Being born and raised in Luxembourg, but still being treated as a foreigner

Although my grandparents on my mother’s side were both foreigners and had quite a few difficulties adapting at first, they still chose to learn Luxembourgish because they believed it was important to integrate and show respect for the native people of this country. They already spoke French, English, Italian, Portuguese and our native tongue which is cape verdean creole, but they still made the effort. My mother was born here.

Being born and growing up here was one of the best things ever. I never faced discrimination, or perhaps I did but was too young to notice. Either way, I have always thought Luxembourg was a beautiful place, and I’m incredibly grateful to have had such a good upbringing here.

This is why I’m quite disappointed to say that things have changed a little, and NOT because of native Luxembourgish people.

For example, the last time I was out with a friend in the city, some european guy approached us and told us in French that there were too many foreigners in this country. We responded by telling him that we were born here, speak Lëtzebuergesch and practise the local culture.

He just shrugged and asked where our parents were from. I had to explain that my mother was born here, just like my friend’s mother. He pointed at our skin and said, “Yeah, looks like they were born here.”
I then asked him in Luxembourgish whether he spoke it. He frowned and brushed the question off with, “Oh no, no, I don’t speak Luxembourgish.” When I asked him why, his response was, “It’s not important to speak it.”
We decided to leave because, at that point, there was no point in continuing the conversation anyway.

Mind you, this was the first time I had ever experienced something like this, and I’m 25 years old. It was shocking and completely unexpected. It was also quite ironic to see how his facial expression changed when we started speaking Luxembourgish to him.

I’ve noticed that this seems to happen quite a lot with people of European descent who aren’t originally from Luxembourg. Sometimes I get strange looks or hear stupid remarks. Personally, I’ve only started noticing this over the past few years, as Luxembourg has become increasingly populated.

Decades ago, when foreigners came here, many made an effort to learn the native tongue of this country to show respect for its people and culture. And, to be honest, I imagine that for some, it was also a way to avoid being judged because of the colour of their skin.
Nowadays, you can experience discrimination from people who weren’t born here and don’t speak Luxembourgish, sometimes not even French or German, yet seem to feel entitled to judge others simply because they are of European descent. How does that make sense?

I also find it a little sad when anyone who moves here has no interest in learning or speaking Luxembourgish, especially considering its beautiful history and how much effort has gone into preserving it.

I’ve never personally experienced discrimination from a native Luxembourgish person, but now I find myself facing it from other Europeans who have moved here more recently.

I’m not posting this to look for sympathy, especially because my grandparents experienced much worse difficulties in their time. I simply want to hear other people’s opinions and experiences.

ALSO NOT POSTING THIS TO START A FIGHT. JUST TALKING ABOUT RECENT EXPERIENCES. It is only a small percentage of rude people.

My boyfriend is fully Luxembourgish. When I told him about what happened in the city, I asked him what he thought about it. His opinion was that any European (or foreigner) who lives here but doesn’t care about speaking Luxembourgish shouldn’t be here, and that he doesn’t consider such people his “Luxembourgish brothers”, even if they were born here.

Personally, I thought his opinion was a little too extreme, which is why I wanted to ask people here.
Have any of you noticed something similar happening more often, or am I overthinking things?

Thank you for reading! ❤️🤍🩵

(+ If you choose to call my story "unlikely" or do not believe me, I think you're either not a POC OR I REPEAT: *NEVER experienced rude weirdos in your life and are very lucky\ ( yes also as a non-poc !)* 🥲 it only started recently. Thought I'd share and read other opinions)

(+not blaming anyone, just telling you what I noticed in the past few years and what I went through. Every experience is different and so happens to be mine. Just because your experience was different, it doesn't take away what i've been seeing. I don't think i would take a man, who discriminated me, out for café or buy him some daisies though🤔. So yes i don't wish to even be around nasty people like that, hope you understand. Thanks for all the responses and suggestion guys. Thank you for sharing your stories. Reading all of them xx)

This full page ad pops up when I try to visit the RTL. It's not sharing the page with news items on it, it is its own page which you either have to click away from or wait for the news page to load. This is unacceptable.

News & Discussion Fit 4 Start, MPs and conflict-of-interest safeguards — what do you think?

Sven Clement’s startup, Nova Lux Orbital, has been selected as one of 24 startups for Fit 4 Start #17, from 556 applications. The selected startups were announced during Luxembourg Venture Days.

This raises a governance question for me.

Clement is a sitting MP, president of the Pirate parliamentary group, and also founder and CEO of Nova Lux Orbital. He sits, among others, on Parliament’s Finance and Budget Execution committees.

Fit 4 Start is a state-supported programme offering coaching and up to €150,000 in equity-free funding from the Ministry of the Economy, subject to conditions. The final selection is made by an independent jury.

So should sitting MPs be able to compete for limited publicly funded startup support under exactly the same rules as everyone else, or should additional conflict-of-interest and transparency safeguards apply?

There is also relevant recent context.

EPPO took over an investigation into the Pirate Party’s MALT project in 2024 concerning suspicions of procurement fraud, document forgery and money laundering. I have not found a public EPPO announcement saying that investigation has been concluded. These are allegations under investigation, not findings of guilt.

Separately, in September 2026, Luxembourg’s Court of Auditors reported that the Pirate Party had not met one of the qualification/experience requirements for MALT, and noted that the European Commission had considered the whole project ineligible.

And on 13 October 2026, Sven Clement and Marc Goergen were sanctioned by the Chamber over their handling of parliamentary funds during the 2018–2023 legislature. This case is separate from MALT.

So what do people think? Is the independent Fit 4 Start jury enough to address any potential conflict, or should elected MPs face stricter safeguards when their private businesses seek publicly funded support?

Troll post. Reply at your own risk BIL flying app

Inspired by Musk's flying car, BIL finally accepted that their app was first in this flying business, they shared customer testimonies with RTL claiming that their app and website were already out of hand. Nobody knows what is going on in their web products and everything has been left to God almighty. Agreeing to this statement from BIL, the differdange mayor and staff commented that when the Chinese can't control services, how can people of Lux expect the mere mortals in Differdange commune to control their hard earned tax money?

P.S. - the Chinese have given up on BIL as well and it's up for sale.

Ask Luxembourg How Do You Fix Your External Blinds? 🤔

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

What do you usually do when your external Venetian blinds stop working? I tried but couldn’t fix it myself.

One of ours got stuck after hitting an obstacle while closing. The motor still makes its normal sound, but the blind no longer moves and the shaft doesn’t turn anymore.

These blinds seem to be everywhere in Luxembourg, so I’m surprised there’s so little discussion about repairing them here.

- Who did you use, would you recommend them, and roughly how much did it cost?

If the motor doesn’t need replacing and it’s just a mechanical issue, would you still expect the repair to cost €300–400 or more?

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

« Sport & Body Comp » Looking for good coach for weightloss and muscle building

Hi everyone! Any recommendations for a knowledgeable coach in Luxembourg for fat loss and muscle building?

I’m looking for personalised training and nutrition advice, ideally from someone open-minded and experienced with different approaches to body composition. Happy to discuss my situation and goals privately.

Firsthand recommendations and an idea of pricing would be great. English or French works. Thanks!

Ask Luxembourg Custom blood test (specific hormones) without insurance coverage – anyone done this?

Hi all, I’d like to get a blood test for a few specific hormones that aren’t included in the standard packages offered by labs like Ketterthill, BioneXt, etc. I’m happy to pay out of pocket. I know CNS won’t cover it. Has anyone done something similar? Specifically: Can I just ask my GP for a prescription listing the exact markers I want, even if it’s not medically “necessary”?

Any experience or tips appreciated. Thanks!

Do you know any pool or a trainer that gives swimming class to adults? Like a grown up who can't properly swim? I need it in order to get PADI licensed in January so I guess it needs to be an intensive course.

Ask Luxembourg Gravity or Galileo residences in Luxembourg?

Hi everyone!

I'm a female intern who coming Luxembourg for a six-month internship, and I'm currently considering two accommodation options: Gravity Coliving in Differdange and Galileo Residence in Belval.

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from current or former residents before making a decision.

I've come across reports about mold, humidity, and maintenance issues at Galileo, which honestly made me a bit concerned. Does anyone know whether these problems have been resolved or are still ongoing?

If anyone would be comfortable sharing some pictures or their personal experience, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you so much in advance! :)
