Guide to Public Transport in Málaga (Parents-friendly!)

Public transportation in Málaga works very well. Even if you are traveling with a newborn, the main bus lines have ramps for strollers/wheelchairs, so moving around without a car is perfectly fine.

🚌 City Buses (EMT)

  • Get a Bus Card: I highly recommend buying a rechargeable bus card. You can top it up with your phone, the trips cost less than half the price of a cash fare, and multiple people can use the same card.
  • Real-time info: Download the EMT Málaga App or use this link to see bus arrivals in real-time.

🚆 Local Trains (Cercanías) There are two main lines:

  1. C1 to Fuengirola: This line stops at the Airport. It is the fastest and cheapest way to get from the airport to the city center.
  2. C2 to Álora: A nice town to visit inland.

📍 Day Trips

By Bus (Intercity):

  • Mijas, Nerja, Frigiliana, Marbella...: To reach these towns, you’ll need the intercity buses. The main bus station is located right next to the train station (María Zambrano).
  • Bus schedules: Estación de Autobuses

By Train (High-Speed/AVE):

  • Cordoba: Even though it is 166 km away, the high-speed train takes less than an hour. It’s a very easy and comfortable day trip.
  • Seville: It is 211 km away, and the fastest train takes around two hours.
  • Schedules: María Zambrano Station

💡 Pro-Tip: If you plan to visit Málaga without a car, I recommend booking accommodation in the area near María Zambrano Station. It makes these day trips and the airport connection much easier!

24M from Germany – Solo trip to Málaga for 3 weeks! Anyone up to hang out? 🇪🇸☀️

Hey everyone! 👋
I’m a 24-year-old medical student from Germany, and I’ll be spending almost 3 weeks in Málaga.
It’s actually my first solo trip, and while I’m really excited, I’m also a little worried that three weeks on my own might get boring. 😅
I’d love to meet some new people, make friends and explore the city together!
Is anyone around my age up for grabbing a coffee, going to the beach, exploring the nightlife, working out or doing some day trips? I’m pretty much open to anything!
Also, do you have any recommendations for places where young people, international students, solo travelers or German/English speakers usually hang out? Maybe social events, language exchanges or group activities?
I’d really appreciate any tips or recommendations on how to make the most of three weeks in Málaga!
Feel free to comment or DM me if you’re around and would like to connect. Looking forward to meeting some cool people! 😄🇪🇸

Restaurant advice

Hello all
I’m planning a trip to Malaga next year and looking for restaurants the cater to large groups (ideally 30 people).

I’d love a traditional tapas bar however I’m aware the good tapas places are typically small intimate nooks and while I love them may not cater to a large group.

Would anyone have any recommendations?

If not specifically tapas, any well love restaurants people have visited and loved.

I’ve of course done some usually research, google maps, socials but always good to find any other hidden, non-social trend favourites.

(Ideally places that won’t bankrupt me please)

Thanks 🙏🏼

Despedida solteiro

Boas pessoal.

Motorbike rent (not scooter)

Greetings to locals!

I'm staying in area for the week and was wondering if anyone

can suggest me any good establishments to rent a bike and

gear. I'd like to enjoy your beautiful scenery on two wheels for

1-2 days (preferably over weekend). I don't really need anything

fast or fancy. At least 600cc maybe? I've been a rider for 6

years, but never riden outside my home country (Estonia). I own

a trusty 97 Transalp myself.

And maybe someone can suggest me any cool routes, while

we're on a topic.

Thank you in advance and stay safe! 😎

Anyone travelling solo on 30th and want to walk together?

Hi! I know the headline sounds like everything our moms tell us to NOT do.

I am travelling to Granada on 30th. My general plan is just land in Granada, drop my luggage at any locker storage, go to Alhambra, and walk around downtown before catching my bus in the evening.

If anyone would like to stroll around together do let me know! We can definitely have a zoom ice breaking session before meeting and take any other safety precautions.

I am F, 32, Malaysian.

p/s: will be deleting this post once i catch the vibe with anyone

Are Spanish nightclubs becoming a tourist trap? (Theatro Club Málaga)

\\\\\\\

I’ve travelled to several Spanish cities and generally enjoyed them, but my recent nightlife experience has left me disappointed.

Two nights ago, I went to Theatro Club Málaga after being invited by promoters. We paid the entrance fee and for drinks, but the experience left me feeling that we had been lured in under misleading pretences.

An acquaintance of mine had an even worse experience in Madrid: his phone was stolen in a nightclub, and when he asked security for help, he felt treated like the suspect and was kicked out.

People work all year to enjoy their holidays. The last thing they need is to feel scammed when they go out for a drink.

I’d love to hear your experiences:

\\\\\\\\- Have you experienced similar situations in Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona, or elsewhere in Spain?

\\\\\\\\- Have nightclub promoters ever misled you into spending money?

\\\\\\\\- If your belongings were stolen, did security actually help?

\\\\\\\\- Is this common in certain clubs, or have we just been unlucky?

I’m not saying all Spanish clubs are like this, but I’m curious to hear from tourists and locals. Share your experiences, good or bad!

Caminito del Rey - are guided tours worth it?

My husband and I are heading to Malanga end of February and plan to go to Caminito del Rey. I see lots of guided tour options but am wondering if there is a benefit to going on a tour (I.e. seeing things we might not pick out ourselves etc) or if we will get enough out of doing it on our own. We are fairly fast walkers so I don’t love being slowed down by groups but hubby loves to hear the history and other info. Maybe there’s a self guided option where we could hear / read? Suggestions welcomed 😊
