And Argentina

492

u/Rambo496 Jul 06 '26

After yesterday, Norway should get it. Will make it a new winner finally.

u/rambokenobi Jul 06 '26

As a Brazilian, I couldn't agree more

20

u/natasevres Jul 06 '26

Ah, the good old Argentina versus Brazil.

Stay strong 💕

VocĂȘ estĂĄ forte e muito bonito

u/Bebop_Man Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Par for the course. You guys were rooting for Germany against Argentina in the 2014 finals after the krauts curb stomped you 7-1.

6

u/CogumeloTorrado Jul 06 '26

I would root for the Devil but not Argentina

1

u/Bebop_Man Jul 06 '26

That's fine. I always root for Brazil if/when we get knocked out first.

1

u/rambokenobi Jul 08 '26

How dare you inflict pain that was healed with deep scars?

1

u/Succulent_Relic Jul 06 '26

The rivalry between Norway and Brazil in football goes deep, apparently. Just happy they gave me a nice birthday present.

1

u/thr3sk Jul 06 '26

Nah, France is going to take it.

1

u/PrionProofPork Jul 06 '26

it's already a given, Haaland conquers all

0

u/Affectionate-Wrap-65 Jul 06 '26

Man Norway and Brazil were both poor it’s such a stark contrast between Mexico vs England game

-49

u/atmospheric90 Jul 06 '26

As a half Norwegian, half german American, i approve of this outcome.

44

u/Nemesis233 Because That's What Fearows Do Jul 06 '26

only an American would call themselves that lmao

3

u/cherry_monkey Jul 06 '26

As an American, I approve this message lol

2

u/Nemesis233 Because That's What Fearows Do Jul 06 '26

I'm the last of a very very long lineage of Portuguese people and I consider myself Swiss after spending 14 years there. Being proud of your grandparents' origin is wild to me

2

u/Hope-u-guess-my-name Jul 06 '26

Doubt the Swiss consider you one of their own, but good for you I guess lol

2

u/Nemesis233 Because That's What Fearows Do Jul 06 '26

That's the thing, that's now how that works.

Also, not everyone is as racist as you think. Idk why you'd think that

5

u/atmospheric90 Jul 06 '26

Damn, what a concept of rooting for the countries that my grandparents on both sides immigrated from. Guess I'll go fuck myself.

2

u/Nemesis233 Because That's What Fearows Do Jul 06 '26

Country must be shit if you consider yourself 1/4 German and 1/2 Norwegian before being just American after living your entire life there

4

u/sharbinbarbin Jul 06 '26

Yes, everything must be shit because other things are celebrated. How very dumb of you to speak

-1

u/Dependent_Homework_7 Jul 06 '26

You forgot an important detail of the Reddit Hivemind “Murica bad” doesn’t matter the reason, good or evil, if it’s American, it is bad.

That is the will of the hivemind.

3

u/atmospheric90 Jul 06 '26

Good lord its like the bots came out in droves. I'm not even supporting the US winning lol

-1

u/ImportanceLive9344 Jul 06 '26

I am a 4% Palestinian, 6% Lebanese, 6% TĂŒrkish, 3% Moorish, 6% Syrian, 10% English, 2% French, 3% Welsh, 5% Scottish, 23% Irish, 19% German, 8% Swiss, 5% Dutch, and ofc 100% homosexual, American. My ancestors never owned slaves, however they did unintentionally spread diseases to Native Americans, and "settle" Native American land. And that's how I identify.

-3

u/Onrawi Jul 06 '26

Omg, the melting pot nation has something unique about how they reference themselves and their heritages. Oh no it's the end of the world 🙄

4

u/Nemesis233 Because That's What Fearows Do Jul 06 '26

I'm an immigrant dude, I just don't get why Americans in particular choose to do that lol

1

u/Onrawi Jul 06 '26

Because historically we've had to deal with all sorts of nationalistic based racism, including white-on-white racism (particularly with Irish and Italian heritages).  Being of the wrong national lineage meant exclusion from all sorts of different social circles, including being passed up for promotions or getting jobs in the first place, pushed out of desirable schools or housing in the right neighborhoods, even churches and clubs or other services.  For a long time, who you were genetically and where your family came from determined much about the default reaction others would give you, and whether you were even given a shot at being a part of the in crowd.

13

u/KalamariNights Jul 06 '26

Soooo you're American?

6

u/BasicBanter Jul 06 '26

So American? Stop the cringy cosplaying please

0

u/atmospheric90 Jul 06 '26

Damn y'all are fickle. Leaving this sub ASAP lol

0

u/BasicBanter Jul 06 '26

Go for it mr Norwegian German American, clearly too cultured for this place

2

u/Lars_Overwick Jul 06 '26

Hey, I hope you don't let the negativity on reddit get to you. Just so you know, noone in Norway would think you're weird for claiming to be 50% Norwegian. Lots of people here are half Norwegian.

2

u/Joaquin-n Jul 07 '26

CĂłmo la tienen adentro

7

u/mechabeast Jul 06 '26

And Morocco

11

u/AugieDoggieDank Jul 06 '26

Why

61

u/GenericAccount13579 Jul 06 '26

Argentina had several players have red card suspensions deferred until after the World Cup

38

u/winewastedwet Jul 06 '26

Cape Verde almost pushed Argentina to the brink. I personally feel that Argentina doesn't have the look of a champion this time 👀

17

u/AllNamesareTaken55 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Neither did they in 2022 or are we forgetting all that happened in the quarter, semi and finals back then too

7

u/ElPajaroMistico Jul 06 '26

They absolutely did lol, did we watched the same games? They dogwalked France for 70 minutes.

0

u/Interesting_Total_98 Jul 06 '26

dogwalked

That's an odd way to describe winning on penalties.

3

u/Familiar_Chance_9233 Jul 06 '26

After France got two pens.....

0

u/Interesting_Total_98 Jul 06 '26

That's a reason their description is odd. "Dogwalked" sounds Argentina easily won.....

1

u/ElPajaroMistico Jul 06 '26

If you could read the rest of the comment It would have been wonders

The semis and final were Argentina’s best games.

Before that, we had an unexpectedly hard group stage, a well played but ultimately close game with Australia, and a two goals lead squandered against the Netherlands in the quarters, where we won on penalties.

The semis against Croatia and the first 70 minues vs France were the only moments where we looked undisputedly like the best team of the world

1

u/AllNamesareTaken55 Jul 07 '26

Obviously they were your best, because you were playing 12 vs 11 lol
Or 13 vs 11 if you count Infantino

5

u/WorriedInterest4114 Jul 06 '26

Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia in their opening match last world cup

1

u/Doomdoomkittydoom Jul 06 '26

I feel that might not do justice to Cape Verde team this year.

8

u/DM_YOUR_TITS__ Jul 06 '26

Wasn't that Portugal?

6

u/GenericAccount13579 Jul 06 '26

Portugal as well, with Ronaldo. But there were a total of 4 players that should have been suspended for the initial match of the World Cup that got their suspensions
er suspended.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/48716037/fifa-waives-otamendi-caicedo-one-game-bans-world-cup-openers

7

u/JoyArk Jul 06 '26

It was one player, Otamendi.

By a modification of the article 10.2, the red card does not matter after the qualifiers.

1

u/AnimeTiddiess Jul 06 '26

what about Portugal?

0

u/Beat4beat Jul 07 '26

Several? Lol It was Otamendi. Fifa changed the rules to let Ronaldo play (he had a two games suspension and was going to miss most of the group stage), and a few players benefited from the change, includinh our 39 yo substitude centre back.

9

u/rintzscar Jul 06 '26

Infantino teams.

0

u/AugieDoggieDank Jul 06 '26

What’s infantino

Is that related to Anthony Fantano

15

u/Minecraftproer Jul 06 '26

Gianni infantino president of FIFA

-2

u/Rambo496 Jul 06 '26

Aka Sepp Blatter light

2

u/PowderEagle_1894 Jul 06 '26

Sepp Blatter light? More like Sepp Blatter on crack. Infatino makes Blatter look like a saint in comparison

1

u/Rambo496 Jul 06 '26

Meant more towards him being smaller, see how I wrote it now. oops

-4

u/EmansaysEman Jul 06 '26

I purely want them to lose due to the super racist tirades they’ve been on lately. Like holy shit some of the worst racism I’ve seen in ages

6

u/Juanmusse Jul 06 '26

kinda wild to accuse Argentinians of racism while you still have white supremacist parades every week down the street lmao.

How many people died there because they had a different skin color in the last 20 years or so?

-1

u/EmansaysEman Jul 06 '26

Who said I liked the USA? I absolutely despise the USA and MAGA and don't want them to win either. I just said Argentina because that's what the commenter was talking about

-3

u/imjustbettr Jul 06 '26

Lately? Argentina's history puts most other colonized country's history to shame. Every Latin American country hates them and hell, they're so racist they don't even want to be called Latin American.

Their president (in 1996) literally said: "Black people do not exist in Argentina, we do not have this problem".

-4

u/Amoki602 Jul 06 '26

You will also see this opinion from a lot of South American fans that feel Argentina was heavily favored in the last Copa America.

9

u/JoyArk Jul 06 '26

People who say people hate Argentina are terminally online and have never travelled outside their own country

0

u/Amoki602 Jul 07 '26

I was only reporting on what people here say about the Argentinian football team, not the country. I have visited Buenos Aires and people were nothing but nice to me and everyone, there was a bit of showing off but it was always done in a joking tone.

Also, to give context, I’m Colombian. That is what people here think about the Argentinian football team. They kept complaining that they had advantages that let them well rested for the final while our team had it harder. And I can’t say for sure everyone saying that has traveled outside of Colombia, that’s a very specific thing and it’s not related to football, which is what I was talking about.

1

u/JoyArk Jul 07 '26

That's surprising because here we like Colombians very much. If Argentina can't make it I would want Colombia to win the cup. I know it's gonna be France, but the sentiment is real

2

u/Amoki602 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

People get salty, the Copa America final was quite the game and Colombia isn’t used to making it to finals in any tournament. We were hanging on for a long time and people really thought we’d win. And winning to your team isn’t something that happens for us very often, people here still remember the 5 - 0 against your team like it was a trophy or something, and that was in 1994.

Also, and again, I’m just letting you know why people say they don’t like the Argentinian team, Dibu has been rude to the Colombian players, and the last time they played in Colombia he pushed a camera man. In my opinion, the camera man was way too close to him and doing the “te voy a comer” when penalties happen is just a way of playing and even our own players do it sometimes.

I met some Argentinians who had no idea that this “rivalry” was happening, so it’s very much one sided and weird, but that’s some context for what I posted before.

1

u/JoyArk Jul 07 '26

That's so sad. Hopefully they can forgive us someday. And hopefully you guys can win soon

1

u/that_award_kid Jul 07 '26

Messi is the GOAT, going to win again or at least get to the finals agains France

-1

u/SlowMissiles Jul 06 '26

I would rather have U.S. win than Argentina.
All the video we see of Argentians fans being racist, and being an F1 fan seeing all the bullshit they did to everyone who do anything to their own mid driver.

-6

u/TheInfiniteLake Jul 06 '26

Argentina already had a huge supporter base before Messi, and Messi's involvement only increased it.

-2

u/Vegaprime Jul 06 '26

I'm american and I want to see Messi cleat dude but accident.
