The best part of the worldcup is watching europeans eating our food on tiktok.

u/nehrkling Jul 06 '26

Idk, the entire stadium singing country roads was pretty awesome

u/TxAg2009 Jul 06 '26

Flavor is a key export from the New World.

0

u/rob132 Jul 06 '26

and enjoying our free refills and AC

u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy Jul 06 '26

Your food is just European food though. Apart from Cajun.

9

u/MeanShibu Jul 06 '26

Yes the California burrito got its origins in France.

8

u/velociraptorfarmer Jul 06 '26

If we're going to play that game then you need to tell the Italians that their red sauce pasta isn't authentic and that the Irish need to give up potatoes.

2

u/Intelligent_Taco Jul 06 '26

Yup, tomatoes and potatoes came from the new world.

5

u/NDSU Jul 06 '26

Yeah, that southern food is totally European. Ignore the fact it uses ingredients like Okra that were brought over by slaves. Ignore the fact the cuisine was almost entirely shaped by African slaves

Totally European. Just like all the artifacts in the British Museum are British

Slaves had enough taken from them. Why you gotta try to take their culinary legacy too?

2

u/Tight-Escape3373 Jul 06 '26

Seriously... Pizza? Sure. Burgers? Absolutely. Once you get into Southern cooking, you're gonna be hard pressed to find dishes that are exclusively European in origin.

American cuisine has a rich and diverse history and we should give credit where credit is due. People have no problem giving the Italians credit for pizza. Why can't we give black Americans the same credit?

5

u/Intelligent_Taco Jul 06 '26

And BBQ. Not grilling. Legit low and slow BBQ.

5

u/Tight-Escape3373 Jul 06 '26

Lol what are you smoking? Cajun is French... Ever heard of the Acadian Diaspora?

American food is definitely not just European. Southern food is massively influenced by African cuisine. Gumbo, for example, is from West Africa, and American barbecue as we know it comes from a mix of indigenous and African American culinary traditions. Collard greens? Definitely African.

There are plenty of books and documentaries on the subject.

Nobody does fried chicken like the US.

1

u/CrimsonAntifascist Jul 06 '26

It's nice and all, but champions league is where it's at. Teams that train and play for years together are far better than those bands of youngsters from second leagues and has beens from a decade ago. (Looking at you/us, germany)

u/itgtg313 Jul 06 '26

Good for you

u/SupportOk1481 Jul 06 '26

The world cup is the one soccer event that Americans watch, even more than their local soccer leagues.

10

u/goforce5 Jul 06 '26

You can tell that this is the truth because our chants are fucking terrible and sound like middle schoolers came up with them

1

u/SteveS117 Jul 06 '26

They’re trying to imitate the British chants and it’s so cringe. We just need to bring our chants from other sports instead of trying to imitate.

1

u/E4g6d4bg7 Jul 06 '26

We have chants?

1

u/goforce5 Jul 07 '26

Yes. Look up the videos if you want a good cringe.

1

u/StonksPeasant Jul 06 '26

To be honest I didn't know we had local leagues outside of kids leagues

1

u/Adalonzoio Jul 07 '26

Pretty much. I don't watch sports really, not super interested. I'll still watch the Superbowl and the world cup, just because of how large of an event it is.

1

u/Top-Editor-364 Jul 06 '26

I’ve never heard of anyone paying attention to the World Cup until this year. I’m not saying nobody ever watched it, but it wasn’t this giant cultural thing that’s for sure

11

u/Erpderp32 Jul 06 '26

Near me there's suddenly a ton of fans wearing uniforms lol. Granted we do have a pretty decent local soccer team too

-6

u/Goldedition93 Jul 06 '26

uniforms?

-1

u/KalamariNights Jul 06 '26

Y'know, their costumes 😂

Our greatest athletes are playing more important sports like golf or pickleball. The world is competing against our 5th string talent. 🇺🇸

5

u/ALinkToThePants Jul 06 '26

It’s not even our talent. One guy is full blown English.

1

u/NDSU Jul 06 '26

You must not pay attention to the Olympics. Considering the population size and wealth, the US really underperforms

The US used to be much better at sports, but we've been falling behind in the past couple decades as fewer and fewer children get into youth sports

5

u/SteveS117 Jul 06 '26

The US has the most all time gold medals and overall medals in the Olympics. What are you talking about?

0

u/TantricEmu Jul 06 '26

Not the per capita euro cope lol

1

u/skrew86 Jul 07 '26

That was the best you could muster and you got destroyed by a tiny country (as usual)

2

u/-Sinn3D- Jul 06 '26

Almost everyone in my office watches soccer. Champions league, etc. None of us are white though lol.

2

u/Get_Out_lmao Jul 06 '26

Meanwhile in the US: Bulletproof backpacks

2

u/SchleicherASK13 Jul 06 '26

Your fascist child raping president apparently.

1

u/Fartony Jul 06 '26

The world exists outside the US

Do you like… not understand what a joke is?

1

u/jeanpaul_fartre Jul 06 '26

for sure, if it's not popular in the US, it certainly can't be wildly popular in the rest of the world.

1

u/thefranklin2 Jul 06 '26

Even now, who in the world thinks the US is going to win 3 more games?

1

u/DeithWX Jul 06 '26

Everyone is a long-time fan now, I don't make the rules.

1

u/NDSU Jul 06 '26

The US has more soccer fans than any of the other teams other than Brazil

1

u/ThruTheCrack Jul 06 '26

I didn't even know the US was still in the world cup.

1

u/TastyVermicelli3140 Jul 06 '26

I assure you the majority of the world is not rooting against the usa.

1

u/jackt-up Jul 06 '26

I appreciate that 🤚

1

u/TastyVermicelli3140 Jul 06 '26

man is the reality, only on reddit anybody would think for example anybody except the french would want france to win over the usa.

1

u/natigin Jul 06 '26

Lots of people. Not on the level of the NFL but soccer in America is doing great attendance numbers and the EPL gets good viewership especially considering the time slots the games are shown

1

u/locomotivebroth Jul 06 '26

Everyone is my (American) house is watching as much World Cup soccer as possible.

1

u/Hurnative Jul 07 '26

Enough to swarm subreddits with their bootlicker mentality
