It would be hilarious how little we would all care while the world raged. As a non sports fan that would be pretty entertaining.

“It’s called soccer”

u/grilled_cheese_gang Jul 06 '26

“Keep the trophy. Instead, everyone has to call it soccer until the next one!!”

32

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 Jul 07 '26

I firmly believe in this. It should be like the green jacket for the masters in golf. For the next year everyone has to call it soccer.

2

u/BTBAM797 Jul 07 '26

And also wear a pair of boobs on their head for a year

1

u/mastercat202 Jul 07 '26

I could agree to that. Let's make it soccer for a year.

7

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

And then nobody called it soccer

1

u/grilled_cheese_gang Jul 07 '26

Yeah, but we got to imagine it. 😌

4

u/deathfire123 Jul 06 '26

Okay, then how about if any other team wins, you Americans have to call it Football?

5

u/Ambitious_Bit_9389 Jul 06 '26

Its how we delineate people who are into soccer or not here. If they are calling it football and use the word “club” they actually care about it when US is not in the Workd Cup. If they call it soccer and use the word “team”, then they rarely care about it.

Also, let’s go team, soccer is great!

1

u/grilled_cheese_gang Jul 07 '26

Yasss team! Kick the soccer ball!!!

20

u/Darthboney Jul 06 '26

Chant, to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands"

If you lose to the US you call it soccer

If you lose to the US you call it soccer

When we beat you at your game

You gotta change the fuckin name

If you lose to the US you call it soccer

4

u/JackPoe Jul 06 '26

Didn't the English coin the term soccer 'cause they were fancy lads?

6

u/Studio-Spider Jul 06 '26

Yes, as with most things Brits make fun of us for, it was an Englishman who came up with it. Other popular examples: aluminum instead of aluminium, the midwestern American accent (supposedly), and of course, the dreaded imperial system.

2

u/goodsam2 Jul 06 '26

Yeah football is a generic term and soccer just means association football which is still technically correct.

Other countries like Australia still use soccer to refer to the sport.

0

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

And then nobody called it soccer

-7

u/Hamster-Food Jul 06 '26

"To the tune of a song for toddlers" sounds about right for that level of maturity.

-2

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

It's the most advanced stuff americans know, go easy on them

-5

u/Hamster-Food Jul 06 '26

Haha. Seriously though, why can't they just be normal say everyone else is shit at "soccer"?

1

u/bwaredapenguin Jul 06 '26

The Brits are the ones who named it that because football just means a sport played on your feet instead of on horseback.

47

u/ProfessorNoPuede Jul 06 '26

Yes, but do you know why? I mean, if you guys won fair and square, no problem.

36

u/MidnightPotatoChip Jul 06 '26

I don't think half the people here are up to date

Imagine having to cheat as the world ‘superpower’

4

u/ExecutionOfAChvmp Jul 06 '26

The initial call was NOT bogus and even if it were, anything you achieve from this point onward will be invalidated by what happened.

There are wrong calls all the time. FIFA basically never changes anything afterwards. This is blatant cheating, fortunately Balogun scoring every goal from here on out for the US isn’t that far fetched, since your team is barely better than Canada and you’ll get your ass handed to you by a real team.

5

u/stephenkingending Jul 06 '26

The whole sport is corrupt. Even aside from the bs with calls not being called fairly across the board, you had Qatar basically enslaving people leading up to and during the World Cup there. FIFA makes the Russian doping scandal look like a Sunday picnic.

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 06 '26

Yeah and now is the first time that the football itself is being hugely affected. That’s fucking sad. Just admit it.

3

u/TheOriginalC4W Jul 06 '26

lol…”fair and square” means playing without or best player because of a bull shit red card. Do you know why Americans don’t like “football”…that’s why. Bullshit calls, full grown men flopping around for nothing. I love the game, but there’s so much wrong with the culture and wimp ass calls.

1

u/dedica93 Jul 06 '26

the fact that you call that red card "bull shit" means you have no idea what a red card is.

0

u/TheOriginalC4W Jul 07 '26

Probably true that I don’t know what it is. From a person who enjoys sports, that is bullshit. Go ahead and enjoy a sport with bullshit rules, and hide behind them. In no other sport would that result in a suspension. It’s BULLSHIT.

1

u/dedica93 Jul 07 '26

I Will. You enjoy cheating. It seems to be paying well.

1

u/TheOriginalC4W Jul 14 '26

You enjoy defending the system, and The Man. You love authority and bootlicking FIFA.

1

u/dedica93 Jul 14 '26

From what did you get this stunning inside of my psicje? Are you the smart one in your family?

1

u/TheOriginalC4W Jul 15 '26

Are you the smartest peanut in the turd?

2

u/TheGodAssassin Jul 06 '26

We would indeed win fair and square.

Utilizing article 27 of fifa's ruleset is fair and square. Sucks to suck

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 06 '26

Really dude

1

u/motsanciens Jul 06 '26

The amount of crybaby bitching about this, fucking hell. Bro got tangled up. He wasn't playing dirty. If it merited a red card, the ref would have spotted it right away, himself.

2

u/orangeZYX Jul 06 '26

The problem is not the card. It’s the blatant corruption.

2

u/motsanciens Jul 07 '26

It's understandable that anything this president gets remotely involved in reeks of corruption.

68

u/NatseePunksFeckOff Jul 06 '26

you guys are so cool

47

u/MangoTwistedMetal Jul 06 '26

Coolest place to be 😎

67

u/Legally_a_Tool Jul 06 '26

Because we got that AC running all day BRRR!

0

u/grilled_cheese_gang Jul 06 '26

Speaking of which, I’m a tad chilly. I should turn it down just a touch.

1

u/That-Annual-2393 Jul 06 '26

Just open a window for now, save it for the night

1

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

European and having AC is the best of both worlds and it's not even close lmao

-1

u/Conscious_Tourist163 Jul 06 '26

Oh yeah? What shit hole are you from?

7

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

Shithole? I just said I'm not american! 😂

0

u/MangoTwistedMetal Jul 06 '26

Idk I hear being Chilean, having AC and being over 6ft tall is the greatest base stats any one person can start out with in the game of Earth.

2

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

Beats being american regardless lmao

4

u/MangoTwistedMetal Jul 06 '26

You are so desperate to make this point lol We are going back to being awesome and you can go back to thinking about US✌️

1

u/InevitablePoet5810 Jul 06 '26

3

u/The_Hoopla Jul 06 '26

Not to make this a competition, as tbh I think it's wild to compare these things when people are dying...

...but this European heatwave has claimed the lives of almost 1300 people...which is quite a bit bigger than 25. Admittedly, Europe has double the population of the US, but 700 is still a much, much bigger number than 25.

-15

u/LordMegamad Jul 06 '26

Its interesting how many people in the US think that you're the only country on earth that has AC technology

6

u/DarkSage90 Jul 06 '26

According to Europeans it’s basically us and the Australians…

2

u/NDSU Jul 06 '26

It's also been crazy in the US this week too

4

u/The_Hoopla Jul 06 '26

Heat deaths are significantly lower in the US than in Europe. A big part of that is honestly that the US, on average, deals with high temps much more regularly...so we have to have AC.

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 06 '26

Almost like the gun deaths in America. Braaazy

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 13 '26

So gun deaths in America are not brazy? Sheesh okay.

-2

u/random_cartoonist Jul 06 '26

Considering the number of people in the US dying from the heat you really shouldn't be talking. There's tons of way you could make things better for the environment but....let's just say you voted for the wrong guy.

-1

u/Few_Objective_5148 Jul 06 '26

Well thousands dying in Florida from current heatwave

1

u/watchingthedarts Jul 06 '26

Yes and most places don't need AC in the summer. If you check people buying AC's in the shops, it's like black friday.

Making light of people's deaths because they weren't prepared for a crazy heatwave is kinda crazy.

1

u/PinkStains Jul 06 '26

The brag is gross and I apologize on behalf of most Americans. A vast majority of us don’t sit here and compare heat deaths with ours from a continent that usually doesn’t get warm enough to need ac. Reading this thread has been disturbing, tbh.

-9

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26

Texas' winter storm deaths went brazy too but you don't see europeans telling you that you don't have the technology. Also, as if the us isn't one of the world's biggest polluter lmao

10

u/dheldkdk Jul 06 '26

That’s weird because there definitely were Europeans saying that on here.

-6

u/asc_yeti Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

No way lmao. Not to the extent americans shit on the eu for "not having AC"
EDIT: lol I'm getting downvoted cause I called out a lie that doesn't fit the narrative of the us being perfect and fair. Pathetic thin skinned morons

3

u/Turnip_Fight Jul 06 '26

You’re getting downvoted because you are wrong and doubling down.

15 million vacant homes and over 700,000 homeless.

You guys rule.

1

u/The_Hoopla Jul 06 '26

I don't anyone is arguing the US is better than Europe.

I think people are just pointing out that specifically access to AC isn't one of them. In fact, it's one of the few things the US has an advantage over Europe on.

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 06 '26

Oh but you are tho

1

u/The_Hoopla Jul 07 '26

Because I typed one factual sentence? They’re losing 3-1 now so seems I’m right but shouldn’t be surprising anyone

5

u/Ne_zievereir Jul 06 '26

You guys spent quite a lot of money organizing and had politicians raging for a people that doesn't care.

3

u/doubagilga Jul 06 '26

It’s not a lot of money to us. We spend more blowing random holes in a desert.

1

u/Ne_zievereir Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Yeah, I think the rest of the world is raging more about that.

(Also, money you don't have lmfao)

2

u/Hovertical Jul 06 '26

I'd wager a VERY large portion of the populace here wouldn't even be aware we won if we somehow pulled that off

2

u/fik26 Jul 06 '26

US not caring?

Round of 32 game, against a bad team got more TV rating, more audience than NBA final. Sth like 22 millions or so.

That doesnt even count Telemundo and Spanish broadcast in US which has more interest in futbol.

2

u/FounderingFox Jul 06 '26

Plenty of Americans care. More than 30 million consider themselves to be soccer fans. That's more than the entire populations of all but nine European countries.

2

u/LFK1236 Jul 06 '26

Ah yes, the famously humble American citizens wouldn't care, right.

2

u/aHOMELESSkrill Jul 06 '26

Just saying, the same weekend we beat Australia in the World Cup, we also beat the in Rugby

1

u/frankofdenmark Jul 06 '26

Orange facism

1

u/lazyboi_tactical Jul 06 '26

We do shit like that all the time. Didn't we try to run a Nascar at lemans recently or something? Now we need somebody to enter gravedigger in the rally grand prix.

1

u/Eon102 Jul 07 '26

No offense but I don’t think you guys actually understand the chances of the U.S. winning the World Cup. I don’t like to say things are impossible but it’s as close as you can get lmao

1

u/rdt_h8s_juice_man Jul 07 '26

Lol none taken because as I said I am not a sports fan and literally could not care less. I don't know Messi's first name. That Ronaldo guy, I don't know what team he is on. Those are the only two soccer players I can name in the entire world. ✌️

1

Americans: ”I’d rather my kids get their brains blown out then give up my guns.”

1

u/Ascertes_Hallow Jul 07 '26

And yet more people die in European heatwaves than die annually due to gun violence in the US. This isn't the own you think it is.

1

u/orangeZYX Jul 07 '26

A lot more people live in Europe though. If you compare per capita it closes the gap quite a bit.

-2

u/Schlurps Jul 06 '26

Heatwave has been over for almost a week, now stfu about it, American pussy.
