Mett or Hackepeter is highly controlled meat with strict hygienic guidelines, often directly from the butcher and has to be sold the same day. It's not advised for pregnant women, elderly people and children, however if eaten the same day or with a good cooling Chain (from supermarket-> cooling Box in car > fridge) the next morning it should be perfectly fine to eat on your Sonntagsbrötchen with Salt, pepper and a few onion slices/dices. And it's delicious.

Attention: "Hack" =! "Hackepeter/Mett" never ever eat Hack raw.

Haven't had some in a long time. Someone here commented you can store it for 2-3 weeks....yeah have fun eating it after that time lol

I made my husband get me one after delivering our child. Usually i like them fine but one or two times a year are quite enough. I craved it the whole pregnancy....

Well there is "Mettwurst or Streichmettwurst" which you can store quite longer ( I think about 5 days to 3 weeks?), however these are often smoked and while the are similar it's just not as dope as real Mett.

I’m sorry I’m so confused I feel like I’m going insane. I thought this food was raw pork, but you’re saying never eat it raw?

"Hackepeter" or "Mett" ( different name, but same food) is highly controlled and typical save to eat raw for healthy not pregnant adults the same day as bought.

It's often confused with "Hack" by foreigners, but "Hack" or "Hackfleisch" is just the name of regular raw pork here in Germany and therefore not save to eat raw.

People always say that, but eating undercooked pork is probably the biggest reason for the transmission of toxoplasmosis godii in Germany.
