What a ridiculous assessment. Raw minced meat being a traditional German dish doesn’t mean it’s popular or even widespread in Germany at all. I live in the south and I’m pretty sure that next to nobody in my friends group ever considered trying this stuff.

I’ve lived in over half the German states. Travelled even more.

It is a thing everywhere. The southeast states seem to have more of a bond with it by my experience, even though it was invented in Berlin.
Edit to add: the south is however historically fan of the LeberkÀsweg, which apparently translates to meatloaf? Specifically, bavarian meat loaf.

And it is not just widespread, it is popular. Else not every baker and Globus and Rewe Theke etc etc would be offering it and not just that, Mett and Hackepeter specifically are some of the most sold items at any supermarket meat counter.
The stuff’s about as universally available as the bread it’s on lol.

Edit to add after some quick research:
There is even a “Mettwoch”, (Coming from Mett and Mittwoch, German for Wednesday) where everyone in the office brings Mettbrötchen.

And everyone I spoke to from northern and middle germany has at least tried it once.
