Discussion Spill the tea... has anyone had any issues where someone at your LGS doesn't know how to deal with women?

My wife has been into magic for a little over a year now and we almost always play together. It's a cliche but sometimes it really feels like some of the regulars have never had to interact with a woman... ever.

My wife was waiting for the owner to get done with another customer so she could ask a question about a sale while I was getting us a table on the back... 3 of the guys kinda awkwardly started to stare and linger around her. When I came back around they all kinda just scattered and it was just weird.

Some other examples I've been a witness to...

There is a pokemon player that frequents the tournaments at the lgs. I don't play but was in the middle of a commander game when it was going on. She won pretty convincingly from what I could gather and everyone shook hands and she went up to the front to get her prize... then the 2nd place guy started ranting to everyone left in the back about how she got lucky and how he went soft on her because she was a woman and that she was trying to distract him... some pretty out of pocket stuff. She came back to open her booster box with some of the others and he just sulked alone in a corner table grumbling.

There is also a part time employee that works at my lgs, she's not really a "gamer" and is pretty awkward about nerd conversations and she just kinda smiles and nods with it... I've seen SO many guys try and mansplain One Piece and make "gooner" jokes that land as flat as a pancake.

You know she was just subtly leaning forward to show some cleavage so that dude forgot a trigger. Maybe a little slo mo hair flip? All part of the femme plan! /s

How dare she! Those puppies should be packed away behind a Victorian style brazier...

As a frequent Renaissance Festival enjoyer, that won't help at all.

Holy smokes your wife's "puppies" must be full-grown St. Bernards if she needs giant metal bowls that hold fires to contain them.

Corset. Brassieres are 1910s onward. Brazier is a metal Bowl for burning stuff in. Yes I am obnoxious.

As someone who began todays MTG game explaining the differences between early Victorian, late Victorian, and Edwardian because of an innocent mistake.. You're not obnoxious at all

When my ex played she did this all the time. She'd come in wearing a hoodie or heavy flannel and as soon as she sat down she'd remove that top layer and have on a cami or tank top. She became immediate BFFs with this gay dude that said "sister, I appreciate the effort but that's not going to work on me."

Reminds me of Jennifer Tilly when she plays poker.

To be fair, that's 100% something my wife would do....and then laugh about it for days if it actually worked.

I do this. It's sort of how I dress anyway and either people will be reasonable and won't care or they'll be unreasonable and I won't care
