Rant Upper Middle/Dorval Accident - Amazing moment

Heading towards Trafalgar on Upper Middle, approaching Dorval and traffic is getting clogged as usual. So I figure, the left turn on to Neyagawa so I'll get in right lane.

Turns out there was an accident a meters after Dorval. I got through the intersection but I was a few cars back, so I was a bit stuck.

Then we all hear the siren, and everyone merges right to make way for the fire truck. Everyone is stopped, appropriately and right up against this accident. Fire truck pulls in but this larger Ford pick up is riding th fire truck through the traffic in the left lane. He flies by me, and gets right up to where the firetruck stops and then attempts to force a merge into right lane.

First guy doesn't let him in, so he lays in on the horn but the next guy does. What was his reward for his good deed? Fire truck turns into right lane and blocks both lanes so they responders can safely work.

The rest of us got to enjoy being stuck there for a chunk of time while this guy in a "Oakville Fence Repair" truck snuck by everyone following the law and then had the audacity to honk at someone for not letting him in.

Absolute clown moment, wish I had my dash cam working.

Question Ontario Racial Discrimination Incident Map

Thumbnail
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m an East Asian person living in Ontario, and I’m interested in gathering information about the experiences of visible minorities and immigrants who have faced racism, discrimination, harassment, or felt unsafe in different Ontario communities.

My goal is to create an interactive map documenting reported incidents of racial discrimination across Ontario, which I would update annually. I hope this project will help raise awareness, identify potential patterns, and provide useful information to minorities and newcomers.

Unfortunately, I have personally experienced several incidents of discrimination. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was threatened because of my ethnicity. I have also experienced situations where people refused to serve me, made me feel unwelcome in churches and community organizations, or refused to collaborate with me in professional settings.

These experiences have made me wonder how widespread these issues are and whether certain communities have recurring problems that deserve greater attention.

I would be very grateful if you could share your experiences in the comments below.

If you feel comfortable, please include:

Town or city: Where did the incident happen?
Region: Which part of Ontario?
Ethnic or racial background (optional): How do you identify?
Incident: What happened, and approximately when?
Impact: Did the experience make you feel unsafe, unwelcome, or discriminated against?

You do not need to share your name or any personally identifying information.

My long-term goal is to compile these experiences, identify recurring patterns, and share the findings with elected representatives and relevant organizations to encourage greater awareness and accountability.

I believe that documenting our experiences is an important first step toward understanding the challenges that racialized communities face in Ontario.

Thank you to everyone willing to contribute. Your experiences matter, and I hope this project can help make our communities safer and more welcoming for everyone.

Additionaly he started riding bikes at 13 with a group of around 6 friends. Please contact me.

I'm a 27 single male (East Asian) with engineering background. I really like Oakville-- it is close to major employment centers such as Mississauga, Waterloo, and Hamilton, while remains as a beautiful and peaceful wealthy town. I also like the great public transits and pedestrian-cyclist space Oakville offers. I have been living in Canada for almost 10 years now, and I decided that Oakville is the best place for my future career and life.

I love cars, aircraft, music, sports, cooking, filming videos, and talking with people from different backgrounds. I currently live in the Kerr Village, but I'm willing to explore other parts of Oakville. I'm open to advice that will improve my job hunt and daily life!

Question Root canal pricing?

I have to get a 4-root root canal treatment done and the endo quote is just shy of $2k. That's not including the crown to be done by the dentist... probably another thou right there (or more?)

Just wondering if anyone has recent experience with a similar procedure and could share what their ballpark cost was, or provide insight on whether it's worth it to shop around or if this is typical pricing.

Damn teeth...

Question Moving to Mowat Ave area / River Oaks PS question (Transition to Sunningdale FI?)

Hey everyone,

My family is looking at a place on Mowat Avenue and our daughter is slated to start Junior Kindergarten in September 2027. We aren't Catholic, so our designated home track for JK–Grade 1 is River Oaks Public School, with the ultimate goal of moving her over to Sunningdale Public School for Grade 2 French Immersion.

I’ve looked at the Fraser Institute rankings and noticed River Oaks sits a bit lower than some other schools in Oakville, but I know rankings don’t tell the whole story.

For parents who have kids at River Oaks PS or who did the exact JK-1 jump over to Sunningdale:

  • How has your experience been with the Kindergarten program and teachers at River Oaks?
  • Is the transition over to Sunningdale at Grade 2 pretty smooth socially, or is it tough on the kids to switch schools so early?
  • How is Mowat Ave / this specific pocket of River Oaks for a young family? Are there plenty of young kids around on the street, or does the demographic lean a bit older?

Would love any honest feedback or chatter on the neighbourhood vibe and the schools! Thanks in advance!

Recommendations Shout out to the rec centre drop-in programs

I'm 30F, recently moved back in with my parents in Oakville to save money and decided this would be the year that I finally take my physical health seriously. I've always been very overwhelmed by the idea of building a fitness routine and have trouble motivating myself. I also didn't want to work out in trendier gyms because not only did I not know how to use the equipment, but the idea of being around very fit people while I sweat and struggle really made me nervous. Eventually I just started to think it was too late for me to get into fitness.

But my mom and I went to a drop-in group fitness class at the Sixteen Mile Rec Centre and it was awesome! The instructor was amazing, the class was challenging but achievable, and the space was very welcoming. We've since gone to more classes at Sixteen Mile, Glen Abbey, and Iroquois Ridge and are loving the accessibility, diversity, and affordability of these programs. After a lifetime of being inactive, I never thought I could change this about myself, but now I actually look forward to my workouts. It's amazing the impact it's already had on my overall mood, energy, and self-confidence. I also love that this is something my 60-year-old mom and I can do together! I even made a friend in the most recent class, someone who recognized me from a couple other sessions came up to me and introduced herself.

My only complaint is that the online booking system is super outdated, and if you forget to reserve a class 7-8 days in advance, it's probably already booked up by the time you remember. But that's nothing a few recurring calendar reminders won't solve. Thank you Town of Oakville drop-ins, it's never too late :)

Question Where to buy a black 6×7 shed roll-up door near Oakville/GTA?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m building a shed and need to source a black 6′ wide × 7′ high roll-up door—the kind that coils above the opening (refer to image below).

I’m looking for supply only, including guides, brackets, locking hardware and ideally a brush-seal kit. I can pick up around the GTA or arrange delivery to Hamilton.

Has anyone bought one locally or dealt with a supplier they’d recommend? Garage-door dealers, self-storage door suppliers and surplus sources are all useful leads.

Firsthand feedback on quality, approximate pricing and lead times would help as well if you've bought one yourself!

Question E-bike/dirt bike on park walkways

Am I just being a Karen?

I’m walking in coronation park and some kid is riding around on what looks like a e-bike or small dirt bike. He is ripping it on the walkways and even on the grass tearing it up. Wearing helmet though. I just haven’t seen anyone riding one of these so all over the place before in a park. Seems potentially dangerous but idk, am I just being a Karen ?? LOL

Events Oakville Men's Well Being Support Group

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just an update on the Support Group that was posted about 10 days ago, the meetup page is up with all the benefits that the FREE group is for. Just to be clear, it will start off as an online group to build trust and a sense of safety. It's an Oakville/Mississauga Support group for now due to the amount of men who showed interest. Eventually as numbers grow, the group can be split into Oakville natives only and Mississauga natives only. Healing modalities will not be practiced in the meetings, but the details of what the group will focus on is available to be seen by clicking the link below. Once there is a sense of familiarity among members, we can come to a consensus of group outing and activities. I really look forward to meeting you all soon and bringing my inner campfire as a host to the meetings.

Those who join will be given a list of guidelines and rules of conduct to ensure the safety for all those who choose to participate with reverence, integrity, respect, empathy, humility and honesty.

Hiring/For Hire Looking for someone to service/repair existing bathtub with jacuzzi function.

We moved in a few years back in our current home and never used the bathtub with the jacuzzi function, but when I turn it on the jets spew out some weird ashy type material. We don't have much time to figure it out ourselves so wondering if any oakvillians know a service that could help bring that bathtub back to life?

Thanks!

Lead the Opposition Vote: Oakville Voters Have the Right to Know Who Is Blocking Transparency

On January 26, 2026, Oakville Town Council voted 9–6 against establishing a public Lobbyist and Gift Registry, which would allow residents to learn who is meeting with councillors and senior municipal staff to influence local decision-making.

The councillors who voted against the registry included:

Rob Burton — Mayor

Sean O’Meara

Ray Chisholm

Jeff Knoll

Marc Grant

Tom Adams

Natalia Lishchyna

Nav Nanda

Scott Xie

Every Oakville voter should ask: Why oppose greater transparency?

Oakville is facing far-reaching development decisions involving significant economic interests. Residents have the right to know who is lobbying elected representatives, who is attempting to influence municipal policy, and whether those interactions are being properly disclosed.

A public lobbyist registry does not imply that anyone has broken the law. Rather, it creates a clear, public record to protect public trust and accountability. If councillors were concerned about costs, administrative burdens, or implementation, those issues could have been addressed through discussion. Why reject the principle of public disclosure instead of working together to create a system residents can trust?

With the municipal election approaching on October 26, voters should examine the council’s actual voting record—not just campaign promises, slogans, and social media messaging.

For every councillor who voted against the registry, the question is clear:

What specific reasons did you have for voting against a public lobbyist and gift registry, and what alternative oversight measures do you support?

Voters need clear answers—not silence, slogans, or vague assurances. Before voting, review the record, ask questions, and require candidates to state their positions clearly.

Oakville residents: Do you support a public lobbyist and gift registry? Should every candidate explain their position on this issue before asking for your vote?

Question Clear view, Schools and commute

Hi everyone! We’re considering buying a freehold home in Oakville with a budget of around $1.2M. One of us commutes daily to downtown, so we’re exploring Clearview and nearby areas for access to Clarkson GO or Oakville GO. Good schools (elementary and secondary), a strong school community and easy commute to union are our top priorities now.

For those living in Clearview or nearby:

  1. Is finding parking at Go station easy in peak hours?
  2. How have your experiences been with the schools and the sense of community here? Would love to know and be part of community here.
  3. Anything we should know before buying a freehold home here? Would really appreciate your honest experiences and advice! 😊 and also open to neighbouring communities around.
