The armchair experts on military aviation are at it again. They heard a plane flying overhead at night and immediately identified it as a Shahed drone. Obviously, given the current situation in the east, we need to stay alert and keep our eyes and ears open, but let’s not spread this kind of panic and disinformation.

I personally prefer some false positives than a single false negative frankly.

Constantly scaring people with false information leads to complacency. At some point, people will start ignoring real threats because they’ll assume false alarms are just part of everyday life. That’s how you end up with people failing to take a genuine danger seriously. Pompeii is a classic example of what happens when people underestimate the threat posed by Vesuvius.

Personally, I’d want to know if wolves were coming to devour my village, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to go around shouting "wolf!" If you think you hear something, you notify the authorities, and they, in turn, notify the public. Most people wouldn’t even see your Twitter video while an alleged attack is unfolding, instead, such posts just spread misinformation and lead people to assume, in the future, that someone is just spouting nonsense again. And then, to go on repeating it 8 hours later, when none of the sources you’re using confirm what you’re writing, and in fact, they actually contradict you, that’s just a whole new level.

Well true, and "the boy who cried wolf" n all that.

Sounds like a plane? How do you know it's Shahed? If you go to flight radar 24 there are at least 3 prop planes flying over Lublin at that time.

Plus there were no sirens 🚨 to alert a drone attack, which is obviously a plane or recon plane patrolling the skies

As i said it's alleged. Many people were waken up by this noise, and it's pitch is nothing like a Cessna 152/172 sound. Also, which Cessna pilot would decide to perform a low-alt flyover at 2 am? Many reports actually confirme that something unidentified flew over the city that night.

I definitely can see Cesna152, Diamond twinstar da42 and Tecnam p2006t all flying at low altitudes at that time over Lublin. Tecnam would be most likely one if timestamp is accurate and it's owned by PWSZ Chełm. No idea what they were doing.

I can assure you that sounded nothing like a Lycoming or a Continential engine. AE 300 or Rotax, quite possible so a DA42 or P2006 may have been the culprit.

Looks like IR approaches

Whose reports?

Your own link states: "At this stage, no violation of Polish airspace has been confirmed."

Mea culpa. Official reports actually do not confirm the statement. By "reports" I meant relations of residents of Lublin area. As I stated in the title, it's "alleged". Not conifirmed. Just shared for the sake of awareness.

If it hasn’t been confirmed that something unidentified was flying, nor has a Shahed been identified, then it follows that neither a Shahed, nor anything that could have been a Shahed but remained unidentified, was flying there. Therefore, based on current information, there is no chance that a Shahed was present. The only alternative is the "well, in theory, anything could have happened" argument, but if that’s the case, then literally anything could be "alleged." So, what is the point of this post, when all we have is "someone thought they heard something at 2am, identified it as a Shahed, likely based on zero actual knowledge, while the military knows nothing about it"?

It's not that hard to not do fear-mongering and actually wait for information to be confirmed dude geez I'm tired of people being braindead like that

Standing near window in this case looks a bit reckless

Possible misinfo. Dont engage until proven. Also bots in Lublin neighbor groups are in full force, so much hate and bullshit being posted all day

Are you implying Ukraine use bots to spread misinformation?

3

u/k-tax 1d ago

No, they are repeating a well known fact that Russians use bots and trolls to spread propaganda, misinformation and exacerbate polarization.

For example, you.

I can assure you of one thing. Lycomings and Continentals do not sound anything like that.

2

u/Duch_landaua 1d ago

This post brings nothing, because it migh be anything. Drone, aircraft GA etc.. In the future if can't identifying object visually, you shouldn't post it. This may be disinformation

More like ukrainian fp-1 or 2, heading towards St Petersburg

2

u/Upbeat-Size-624 1d ago

Anyone can buy plane model with this kind of engine for like 1-2k$ and fly with it. Also, it doesnt even sound like drone, more like makeshift moped.

2

u/Upbeat-Size-624 1d ago

or you just trolling and added recording from other video. I cant see anything like that in that city anywhere and I dont believe only you recorded that.

2

u/OMGguy2008 1d ago

Well from your Lithuanian neighbour to the north, this morning a drone crashed in the north of the country and we had air raid warnings issued so I think this might be related with that.

2

u/psmiord 1d ago

Where?

8

u/KPSWZG 1d ago

Its literaly in the title

23

u/psmiord 1d ago

Oh, right here. Sorry, I was focused on the video.

3

u/deathmethanol 1d ago

Yeah, your mistake. Video is there as a distraction.

1

u/KSzkodaGames 1d ago

It’s pretty obvious is not a drone, otherwise we would’ve heard the sirens immediately or emergency text being sent by the ministry of defence. If anyone remembers the last Russian drone attack in Poland when Polish military immediately detected the drones but don’t have the right equipment to take it all down.

I heard extremely similar noise yesterday at around 2 pm in Wrocław near Rędziński bridge area. But I guess it sounds much more intimidating near the eastern border.
