Because we constantly get "How do i make friends" posts. If you want friends just post in this thread. I'm going to make it a sticky topic. I'm also going to give you 100% foolproof tips to make friends that have worked for me all my life 100% of the time.
Here is my foolproof plan that works 100% of the time. It is a 4 step process.
determine what your hobbies and interests are.
go to places where these hobbies and interests happen
interact with people.
If you don't have any hobbies or interests get interested in something and repeat steps 2-3.
It is literally that simple.
I am an extremely abrasive and unlikeable person. I have never failed to make friends using these steps. If I can do it so can you.

When ICE agents beat and pepper-sprayed two U.S. citizens on their way to enlist in the Marines, it struck a nerve across the Rio Grande Valley.
Historian Trinidad Gonzales traces why in a new op-ed for Across The Americas. From LULAC and the American G.I. Forum to the Felix Longoria Affair and Edinburg’s Vietnam losses, military service has long been how Mexican Americans claimed their place in the country.
Now, with early voting underway and three Valley congressional races that could decide control of the House, Gonzales argues silence from South Texas Republicans on ICE arrests carries a political cost.

Please remember to participate! Let Texas hear from the Valley 🤠
From what you earn, to what rent costs. Whether you can afford basic groceries, electricity/utilities, and a doctor’s visit. This matters!
How immigration laws are written and enforced—and how those decisions affect families and workplaces. This matters!
Voting helps determine who makes those decisions, spends public money, and oversees government agencies. It shapes the future for our kids who don't yet have their say!
You don’t need to love a candidate or agree with every position. You can compare the choices and decide who best represents your priorities.
Check your county’s official early-voting schedule, review your sample ballot, and choose a time to go. Encourage the people in your life (18+) to make their own plan, too. Offer a ride or help finding reliable information if they need it.
One election won’t solve everything. But participation gives you a say in what comes next. We in the Valley (Upper, Middle, or Lower RGV) are important to Texas and the United States! We should be heard!

How was the transition? Did you like it/not like it? And how different is Houston in terms of weather to Rgv?

Me and my classmates were talking about the old 'party' places that used to be open. We could only think of the zone and gorilla George's. Was there any more?

anyone know of a non partisan group offering rides to polling locations? texas is rampant with voter suppression and has some of the lowest voter turnout in texas. i’d seen this service in years past but haven’t seen it recently shared.

I've been listening to many helicopters passing every few hours for several days, either at night or day, today about 3 passed by this same area with a time difference, and they sound like big helicopters, I almost didn't get to see them but the other one I saw and it was war helicopter style.

Hopefully this post won't get removed, but what are y'all's experiences with renting here in the RGV..?
Literally every landlord we've ever had has fucked us over when it comes to repairing appliances that break. All of the contracts we've signed have clearly stated what the landlord would be responsible for and what us as tenants would be responsible for.
We always notify our landlord in a timely manner and he just gives us the same run around of them sending someone to check it out. Well, the landlord lets us know a time that maintenance will be coming and we'll be waiting the entire day here just for no one to show up. And they absolutely refuse to have someone working here while we're not home so we have to move all of our errands around for something that doesn't even end up happening!
We've gone months with appliances staying broken because we continue to believe the words that someone will eventually come to fix what needs to get fixed.
So now we've refused to pay this month's rent because why are we gonna hold up our end of the contract if the landlord won't..? You'll get your money once you take the repairs seriously. Well, we relayed that to him and he said he would be more than willing to send someone to come check on what's broken as soon as he gets the rent money.
We've dealt with a lot of this back and forth bullshit with no improvement for the ENTIRE 2 and a half years we've been living here. They claimed to have renovated just for us to find out the AC unit they had put in wasn't strong enough for the size of our apartment. Mind you, we have 2 little ones and it had been in the low to mid 80s everyday regardless of the outside weather! I even have pictures saved of the temps just in case they wanted to try me because they would send someone just to check the thermostat and if it was good, that just meant the AC was working just fine too, apparently. Not to even mention this place is literally falling apart! There's cracks all in the ceiling, we've had leaks, and don't even get me started on the outdated plumbing! Renovated, my ass!
We've already taken another rental property to court for doing the same thing to us a few years back and I'm really not wanting to go through that process again even though the judge sided with us and we won. But it seems like every landlord down here is like that. A lot seem to take advantage of the fact that we're struggling and they're betting on us not having money to deal with things legally.
I would just like to hear from other locals, what their experiences have been like and how they dealt with it moving forward. If anyone could offer advice or suggest rental properties that don't fuck over their tenants, it would be greatly appreciated. Trying to stay within the McAllen/Edinburg areas. TIA!

Hi, does anyone here can recommend a good doctor or clinic for kids? We need a new doctor for my 15 month old. We are in Mission but willing to travel somewhere else. Thanks!
