The No.17 Team Getspeed Mercedes secured victory at the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe (GTWC EU) Portimao finale, in a stand-out performance, with Gold and Bronze Cup champions coronated. Meanwhile the No.3 Verstappen Racing Mercedes' race was disrupted by a penalty, with a possible podium finish turned into a ninth place finish. ​

After seeing Max back in GT3 at Portimão, I'm curious where everyone actually ranks him against the established factory drivers.

I'm talking about guys like Maro Engel, Kelvin van der Linde, Jordan Pepper, Thomas Preining, Raffaele Marciello, Jules Gounon, etc.

Obviously, Max's single-seater career speaks for itself, but GT3 is a different discipline. These guys have years of experience with GT3 machinery, traffic management, multiclass racing, endurance stints, and working with different teams and manufacturers.

So where would you put Max right now? Is he already at the level of the top factory drivers in terms of raw pace, or does he still need more GT3 mileage and experience to be genuinely comparable over a full season?

I'm especially interested in how you'd rank him on pure driving ability versus overall GT3 racecraft and experience.

Curious to hear some opinions beyond the obvious “he's a four-time F1 champion” argument.

Verstappen Racing had a disappointing qualifying session in the GT World Challenge Europe (GTWC) season finale at Portimao, with the team's No.3 Mercedes set to start from 14th place. But how did it happen and can the team turn things around come the race?
