Perhaps because President Ford was never hit.

But he was a target on two separate occasions by two women in September 1975, in California. The first was a Manson cult member, the second an FBI informant turned left-wing activist.

Ehhh, yes and no. He was shot by a Know Nothing partyer who sympathised with the Confederacy. The Dixiecrat party didn't exist until 1948, and dissolved the same year, but yes, their political alignment was the same as the Confederates' Southern Democrats and the Know Nothings.

LOL!! They were Dixiecrats even then. Maybe instead of guessing look it up? The problem with Reddit is the second someone guessing gets called out, they freak out and double down the same way Trump would. And Dixiecrats are what you are talking about. Democrats were like the GOP, while Dixiecrats were like MAGA. Again, just look it up.

The term Dixiecrat wasn't coined until the formation of the States' Rights Democratic Party in 1948, the colloquially named Dixiecrat Party.

The Southern Democrats were like today's GOP, yes, the Know Nothings were like MAGA.
