ASK SYRIA Very unlikely that anyone can help but...

I'm asking just in case anybody would recognise this meagre description.

There was a Syrian man, in his twenties or early thirties, living in the north west of England, United Kingdom, in 2004. He lived somewhere in the Greater Manchester area and he did voluntary work at Salford Cathedral, and the Citizens Advice Bureau in Bolton.

His name was Danny but I'm not sure of the spelling. I'm assuming he was a Christian given that he volunteered to help the homeless through a Catholic church but I'm not sure about that.

I knew him very briefly through my own volunteering, and didn't know much about him, but he was a friendly, helpful, kind, thoughtful guy and he sticks in my mind. I guess I'm just hoping to find out that he came through the years of turmoil in Syria ok.

Apologies if this post is not allowed, and I'm sorry for how scant the details I'm providing are.

News & politics Al-Suqaylabiyah related post

Hi everyone,

I came across an article, with several videos, about a recent attack on Al-Suqaylabiyah on October 3, 2026. I’m trying to verify how accurate the information is. The article repeatedly refers to a post written by Father Fadi Sankari of the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Al-Suqaylabiyah, but I haven’t been able to find his Facebook page or the original post. I’m asking because the article was published by a right-wing EU newspaper and appears to have been picked up by two other right-wing newspapers, but I haven’t been able to find any independent sources confirming the incident. Could anyone help me find more reliable information or verify whether an attack actually took place on October 3 (or it's an old one?)? Thanks in advance for any help!

News & politics معراج أورال - باعوه أفراد من عائلته 🇱🇧🇸🇾 Betrayed by his own family, the “Butcher of Baniyas” was lured & snatched from hideout in Lebanon as Damascus fumes at Beirut for sheltering Assad remnants

Interview Summary

The interview discusses the reported capture of Miraj Ural, also known as Ali Kayali and dubbed the “Butcher of Banyas,” a figure accused of involvement in massacres committed on behalf of the Assad regime in Syria.

According to the journalist, Lebanese sources reported that Ural had been living in a safe house in Mansourieh, a predominantly Christian area in Mount Lebanon. He was allegedly lured out through relatives, abducted by five men, and transported across the Syrian border for trial. The journalist says senior Lebanese security sources denied that Lebanese security agencies had cooperated in the operation or even known about it.

The discussion then turns to growing tensions between Syria and Lebanon. According to the interviewee, senior Syrian officials are deeply dissatisfied with Lebanon's handling of former Assad-regime figures allegedly sheltering on Lebanese territory. He claims that some Lebanese security officers loyal to Hezbollah may be turning a blind eye to these individuals or helping them remain at large, despite the security threat they allegedly pose to Syria.

The interview also connects this issue to Hezbollah's missile arsenal in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, which the interviewee describes as a threat to Syrian national security because the missiles could reach targets across Syria.

The central argument: Damascus reportedly views the presence of alleged Assad-era war criminals in Lebanon not simply as a matter of refuge, but as a serious security and diplomatic issue. The interviewee argues that Lebanon should arrest and hand over such individuals to Syria for prosecution, stressing that they should be treated as alleged criminals rather than political dissidents.

News & politics Suwayda governor renews dialogue call

Post image
2 Upvotes

📌 Suwayda's governor has issued a new appeal for dialogue, two weeks after the National Guard rejected his authority on the ground.

📌 Mustafa al-Bakour urged residents to favor wisdom and dialogue to spare bloodshed and ease displacement, poverty and fear. He said the government is open to talks within the law, with real guarantees to restore trust.

📌 He said sitting at the table doesn't mean giving up rights, reconciliation doesn't mean forgetting grievances, and understanding doesn't mean abandoning dignity. Every grievance, he said, can be raised and weighed seriously and fairly.

📌 Al-Bakour asked Suwayda's notables to narrow differences and prepare for a "serious dialogue" with the state.

📌 On 03/10, the National Guard of Hikmat al-Hijri closed Hibran's municipal offices after al-Bakour appointed a new council, rejecting any decision by what it called his "illegitimate government".

ASK SYRIA Any hope for me?

I'm a foreigner applying to Syria's private universities in dentistry. I relocated with my family from Bahrain to Syria because my mom is Syrian. However, we didn't stamp my highschool certificates before. Through a document clearance office, we started stamping them last week and did so from the Syrian embassy and ministry of foreign affairs in bahrain. But we still need to do the معادلة and also stamp it from the ministry of foreign affairs here. We have the PDFs of the original certificates. Can we complete the processes using the PDFs or do the physical copies need to be present? Sending them by the post office from Bahrain to Syria takes about 3 days. Do I have a chance?

News & politics Syria assesses potential radiation hazards

Post image
8 Upvotes

📌 Syria’s Atomic Energy Commission surveyed waste at the Damascus Petrochemical Refinery to identify potentially radioactive materials and assess risks to workers and the environment.

📌 Oil industry waste can contain naturally occurring radioactive substances, making testing important for safe handling and disposal.

📌 Laboratory analyses are underway, with a technical report and safety recommendations to be submitted to the refinery’s management.

📌 The survey is part of broader radiation-safety efforts at Syria’s oil facilities, but no official link to plans to reactivate the refinery has been announced.

Discussion How is it like to be a Syrian in Germany

I have a cousin in Germany who I talked to recently. He seems not to be very satisfied there. He told me that Germans in general don’t like foreigners and it is hard to make german friends there. For Syrians who live there, what do you think?

Discussion Is Syria right now in need of foreign workers?

My family runs a consulting business in Thailand that sends foreign workers abroad for employment, and I have been following Syria for years, ever since the Assad regime was in power and throughout the civil war, up until its end and the establishment of a democratic government. And I've also met Syrian workers in Europe (Especially in Germany, where they usually take construction, welding, and other skilled labor jobs. However, I have a feeling that the Syrians I met in Europe were not officially sent by the government but were instead Syrian refugees seeking employment in Europe. This is during the Assad era btw)

I know for a fact that most of Syria's urban areas, which are generally considered safer, are located in the western part of the country. In contrast, the eastern part is generally considered more dangerous and is largely inhabited by ethnic Kurds, particularly in regions such as Rojava. I also know that western Syria, including the nation's capital, Damascus, suffered extensive destruction during the civil war. This could create opportunities for foreign workers to contribute to reconstruction, although the feasibility of such an initiative would depend on the state of employment in the country.

One thing I am uncertain about is Syria's current employment situation. From what I know, al-Sharaa plans to create more jobs for Syrian citizens, internally displaced people, and returning refugees. However, I am not sure whether there are labor shortages in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and construction, although manufacturing could potentially offer interesting opportunities.

Considering Syria's current situation, I have an idea for the future: to identify Syrian businesses that are actively seeking foreign workers and establish agreements with them to recruit and send Thai workers to fill positions in specific sectors of the Syrian economy.

This would be similar to the existing employment arrangements for Thai workers in neighboring Israel and Jordan, as well as in Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. Thai workers are everywhere in the Middle East btw, particularly in the Gulf countries. For example, in Israel, many Thai workers are employed in agriculture, including fruit picking and farming on kibbutzim and moshavim. In the Gulf states, Thai workers are commonly employed in sectors such as construction and caregiving. There may also be opportunities in port-related jobs. I vaguely remember seeing an email from a Qatari company about ten years ago asking to recruit Thai workers for employment there.

I am particularly interested in Syria, but I am uncertain whether the country will have sufficient demand for foreign workers, given the current state of its labor market. However, I believe there could be potential opportunities in the technology sector, especially if Syria's domestic tech industry is not yet sufficiently developed to meet its future needs.

If I eventually pursue a project to recruit and send Thai workers to Syria, I would like the employment contracts to differ from those commonly used in neighboring Israel, Jordan, and the Gulf countries. Instead, I would prefer to establish temporary contracts lasting one to two years, similar to the arrangements under which South Korean workers were sent to the Middle East during the 1970s and 1980s. Following the oil crisis of the 1970s, rising oil revenues helped fuel a construction boom in the Gulf states, creating substantial demand for foreign labor. I see this historical model of temporary overseas employment as a potential reference for developing a future Thai labor program for Syria.

Such a program could also benefit Thailand's economy. In my view, many existing overseas employment arrangements do not sufficiently maximize the economic benefits for Thailand itself. Meanwhile, many Thai workers are interested in working in countries such as South Korea, and some even choose to work there illegally. A structured system of temporary 1-2 year contracts could provide a legal alternative while generating hard cash earnings for Thailand through workers' remittances. This approach could draw inspiration from South Korea's earlier experience, when overseas employment contributed to the country's economic development before its major economic boom.
