I spent a year building destruction for my Titanfall+The Finals game ShatterRush, I would love to get your feedback!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This subreddit has been providing my 2-man dev team the absolute best feedback since the very first ShatterRush prototype just over a year ago, so I thought I would ask for your thoughts on the new Destruction 4.0 system.
This system brings up the fidelity of destruction massively:
- All weapons damage buildings, with each chunk having it's own healthbar
- Debris can be used to eliminate other players
- Performance is significantly improved from previous versions
A question I see here sometimes is "Won't destruction ruin the flow of movement"? My answer to that is it can, but only if left completely unchecked. The goal is to allow the map to evolve over the match, with new pathways being created constantly so that no two matches play out the same. Destruction also allows much more combat depth, as you can destroy cover enemies are hiding behind, or use debris to temporarily cut off paths/eliminate enemies. We'll continue to monitor and balance the destruction systems over time to ensure this is the case.
If you have thoughts on how we can improve this system, please leave them below.
As well, I just wanted to say thank you to over 100k playtesters who have tried the game and given us their feedback, many of whom are from this very subreddit!
You can wishlist or try the demo for free on Steam, just search "ShatterRush"!

They won't give us Titanfall, then we'll make our own titanfall

With black jack!
And hookers!

u/prodigalAvian Apr 24 '26
You jest, but a Titan with short-range stabbing and another Titan wielding a hooked chain would seal the deal on this line

this game looks like it would be chill for the first year then becomes overwhelmingly sweaty and have an unreachable skill gap afterwards

I would normally play in lobbys on Northstar that had atleast 1 pro in it. It was always satisfying to get a sneaky kill on the dude that's been shitting on you for hours lol.

u/Demara_Awol Apr 24 '26
Nah the true problem will be cheaters. If you think big time developers like EA/DICE/AV have a hard time with cheaters you should see what small indie projects deal with.
This game will be completely unplayable about a year after release. Through no fault of the dev, it's just not possible for someone at their scale to handle the literal teams of paid hackers who spend their entire week building new programs.

It's already almost like that, it is so fast-paced that casual players have a hard time keeping up

That just means its a good video game.

u/ImprobableAsterisk Apr 24 '26
Sure, but they tend to be doomed to relative obscurity and lack of long-term commercial success.

u/Sufficient-Big5798 Apr 24 '26
Both TF and TF (lol) pretty much did that, so it’s a worthy child if the two

u/JJay9454 Apr 24 '26
I mean... is this not every PvP game ever?
Every CoD
Every Halo
Every Battle Royale
Every Extraction Shooter
Playing any of 'em now is just getting stomped on. I feel like this is juat because gaming is so popular now. Instead of like a couple thousand people playing a game, there's 10's of millions and the gap of skill disparity is just so wide.
Shoot, I can't think of a PvE game even that's not dominated by high-skill players

Just played your game and I have some suggestions. I think that pilots should be a little more visible, the techs have a little too much health for our current weaponry considering their armament against us, the grapple could use a little work as it feels a little unpredictable at time. Overall, I love the concept and can't wait for the full release.

u/TetraStudiosDev Apr 24 '26
I'll reduce the mech health in the next patch, good point. Thanks for the feedback!

It really seems like it lacks direction and is over streamlined. Hard to feel the weight of the movement. When there's no weight felt it doesn't feel satisfing to pull off stuff.
I haven't played yet and I will soon, but from the animations and gameplay I'm seeing it seems so streamlined that it becomes aim lab.
You really just let the player keep their momentum wherever they want to go? You made the mechs super maneuverable? Systems that don't require sacrifice lack nuance. Without that depth, the game will probably get stale fast.
I think the concept is inspired and it looks pretty fun. So I'll be back with more thoughts later, but I'm really worried that it's gonna lack restraint and the overall experience will suffer.

u/Furebel The Yeet Seat Apr 24 '26
It really has no direction, and you can see that in the trailer. Good for them for making it, but it really lacks any creativity.

u/Medik55 Krabing (Badly) Apr 24 '26
Dude this is insane. You've been advertising this for a while, but the last time I saw this, it was 3rd person, and honestly that put me off a lot. Seeing this now as first person makes me so happy because it looks 10000x cooler and I'll definitely be picking it up, joining the play test, and showing a bunch of my friends!

Y’all need to remove the feedback pop up in game if you are not currently taking feedback. Played the game tonight, enjoyed it and got the prompt, wasted time writing out detailed feedback just to hit send and get the “not accepting feedback at the moment” pop up
6
u/TetraStudiosDev Apr 24 '26
This should be fixed, we exceeded the feedback limit temporarily so it stopped accepting feedback 😅
5
u/Trekt54 Apr 24 '26

I don't know, I feel like I'm the only one who looks at this and feels it's very off. It gives an asset flip feelings with not much creative direction, if any. I wish your team well, and I hope You can make it better than what we can see on the trailers, but for me everything I see so far is only pushing me away from it.

2
u/StealthyRobot Apr 24 '26
I gotta play this.
I do think it would be cool of building destruction is limited to titans, to make sure they feel big and powerful compared to the agile pilots. But, I also haven't played so it could be great as is lol
2
u/Connect-Ad6251 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26
Played this with a few friends for like two hours earlier and it’s pretty good so far, my main complaints are the explosives (titan alternatives) are very overshadowed by the titans and there’s not much reason to use them, as far as I can tell there is no controller aim assist making it pretty hard to run roller, and the grapple feels a little janky
Aside from that it’s really fun
As for the destruction, it flows really well and I didn’t notice it getting in the way much except for this one time I dropped my titan on a building and it became completely stuck and I was just a piniata for the other players
Oh yeah also the lack of detailed sensitivity modification options is not that great
I’m sure this will be changed eventually but as is right now there is just one sens slider and you can’t tune horizontal or vertical individually

Ive played it. The movement is a little clunky, and the titans are ass on any map that isnt the first one, but it has insane potential, and when im not lagging the game is genuinely fun. Optimization and better movement for the titans is needed.

The Finals is literally the perfect game you could’ve mashed Titanfall with. Both games, when it’s tough it can be demoralising. But when it clicks, and you feel the flow and there’s nothing blocking you, there’s not a feeling like it. You want the game to continue because you want to keep the momentum going.
If big team, big map, long games are in the future, like conquest and rush/breakthrough in Battlefield, I think you would have the holy grail of FPS games. If I had a pc I’d be jumping in asap

This looks awesome, will be trying it soon. Big fan of the weapon design. One quick bit of feedback I've noticed from the gameplay videos I went through, the maps don't really seem to be built around the movement. Like sure there's plenty of verticality, but the placement of walls doesn't seem like it's made for chaining together wall runs and enabling traversal. But sorry to come out of the gate with a suggestion, overall this looks incredible!

Have you considered adding some kind of gadget that builds temporary walls?
I imagine it being basic but very versatile as it can be used for cover or for wall running.
Also do you have plans for gadgets other than the grapple hook?
Also shatterrush is looking absolutely fantastic

You have to make sure parts of the map don't become unaccessible when destroying structures or it will be fristrating for people. I saw in the video that you could destroy a whole bridge, which is really cool. But you have to give the players a way to the other side once the bridge is broken, if it's not already the case.
1
u/After_Suggestion_267 Apr 24 '26
i would love to see more decor on walls because they seem bland, as well as a way to regenerate parts of the map because it feels like everything is just gonna be destroyed and then the destruction element is gone for the rest of the game, also a wall phasing ability or a punch that destroye walls as you glide throught the air and just want to bypass a wall that would break your speed

u/eggsyest scorch main Apr 24 '26

close enough, welcome back titanfall 3. Anyways is there a planned campaign with scifi space googok and fun characters because if so i will actively pay 60$ USD for it and tbh thats lowballing

Suggestion: study how the finals destruction works. It doesnt leave a bunch of small debris around, which could be visually and physically confusing; instead, destruction removes chunks of the structures, like leaving holes, until the structure can't hold its own weight, it then could split, but in large chunks, which players csn still clearly walk and climb on. Anything smaller than a surface climbable to players would be destroyed.
The end result, the gsme can have an entire map thsts destroyable, in a multiplayer game, with physics debris, which is an achievement of its own. But its not out of the box chaos destruction in UE, or voxel based destruction like is common in other places. Its destruction engineered (probably based on chaos for the finals, which is made in UE) for multiplayer gameplay. Texturing and vfx make it look good after the base physics works well.
Also, explosions dont apply physics in the finals, they only apply destruction. Probably good for debris so it doesnt end up flying around out of control and creating tons of bugs. However the recently added magic orb can do push back, mainly against small objects. Large debris usually falls down, maybe rotating due to torque, but it isnt launched in some direction cause dfrom an explosion.
But I do like the idea of debris doing player damage, I think thst should be explored in the finals.

One thing you could do to win me over is the option to queue into lobbies with no aim assist. As an MNK player since the 90s, I find so many modern games insulting to play with overtuned aim assist and all the xim/cronus type cheats that come with them.

You might want to consider having the grapple come out of the characters arm instead of the middle of the character as sometimes the camera is completely blocked by the grapple.
Also, currently if you press the sprint button again while already running, it stops the sprint. Personally i prefer the system that most other games use where the input is just ignored if you're already running, i like to mash the button to get started and currently that doesn't work in this game. Maybe a toggle for that would be an option.
Oh last bit, it might be a good idea to change the default settings to enable vsync or have a default fps limit. Currently both are disabled by default so the GPU will happily run wild generating needless frames as soon as you hit the tutorial level.
Other than those details it's very fun. the guns feel like they have decent weight behind them and the UI is clear and understandable. Already added the game to my wishlist

u/SonofGondor32 Apr 24 '26
I haven’t played but looks awesome. Purely from this footage, the world feels a little too brittle. I love the destruction, but the explosives seem to go 0-100. The RPG against the bridge should do damage but shouldn’t destroy the whole thing.

Please add gravity to the destructible parts. It feels pretty strange to knock off all the supports on a building for nothing to really happen
1
u/Autistic_boi_666 MRVN Apr 24 '26
Gameplay looks really cool, seems to stay true to and expand upon the mechanics of Titanfall (I especially love the idea of incorporating destructibility and making it work with the movement systems), but it would be great if the art shared that kind of inspiration, as this looks very derivative of the generic futuristic/"cyberpunk"(without the punk)/medieval-chivalric aesthetic that was already tired just years after overwatch popularised it. I think if it took a more unique approach to its visual identity, even just making textures a bit less flat, maybe introducing some metallic elements for example and reducing the dominance of the glowing marvel greebling, it might attract eyes better.

u/Dekotop Apr 24 '26
