šŸ“New rules and subreddit update

Hello!

Just wanted to update the community on what's going on and to get some feedback. For those who are unaware, we are a new modteam put in place after Reddit locked r/TorontoDriving down. Last week, we reopened the sub to submissions and we have made some changes.

In our first community post asking for feedback, a big problem you guys pointed out was the rampant racism and toxic comments present here. We want to assure everyone that we are here to fix that while not being overly restrictive on discussion. The point of this subreddit is Toronto DRIVING, not politics and especially not race baiting culture wars. There will be no tolerance for prejudiced comments making sweeping generalizations. Feel free to shit on the person's driving but not on their race! (doubly so if you can't even see who's driving!!) We have already handed out a bunch of temporary bans for such comments and will be moving to permanent bans for reoffenders so be warned!

Anyway, we have created a set of rules that we hope can keep this sub clean. Please let us know if we missed anything or if you have any feedback, thanks!

Proposed New rules:

1. Must be relevant to driving in Toronto

Your post must be related to driving on the roads/highways in the City of Toronto and the municipalities bordering Toronto - Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Pickering.

Exceptions can be made for exceptional videos but should be in the GTHA area.

2. No racism, prejudice or hatespeech

There is zero tolerance for hate.

Do not make prejudiced comments or generalizations targetting a particular group of people.

Do not make assumptions about race or gender (especially when it's not known or relevant).

Do not use any toxic language that is associated with racism such as slurs, epithets, name-calling, stereotypes and dog-whistle terms.

3. Be civil to other members and mods

Do not use excessive profanity or name-calling. Attack the action - NOT the person. Threads that devolve into a personal attack back and forth will be locked and removed.

Sending abusive modmail will get you muted without explanation.

4. No doxxing or witch hunting

License plates and faces recorded in a public place are allowed but posting private info like names, addresses and social media is not allowed. Do not speculate on or ask for such info. Only information confirmed by verified sources such as police and reputable news outlets are allowed. Do not post license plate info or pics of people with unsubstantiated stories (video or it didn't happen).

If you have private information that is relevant to an accident, please use private chat and contact the user or police directly. Do not post it publicly.

5. No low effort submissions like parking pics, memes, recent reposts or other spam

Low effort posts like parking pics and memes will be removed. Please check if your question or submission has already been posted recently. We will remove repetitive submissions.

Do not post any advertising, self promotion, irrelevant links, videos with excessive overlays, social media memes or story plus photo posts.

6. No editorializing or misleading titles/comments

Titles should be descriptive of the video or article submitted. Posts with overly dramatic or misleading titles will be removed.

Comments and titles that push misinformation or agendas not relevant to the post will be removed. Posts with unsubstantiated back stories may be removed at mod discretion.

7. No illegal or extreme content

Do not post anything that breaks Canadian law or Reddit Terms of Service.

Do not threaten violence or incite violence.

Do not encourage others to break the law or abuse legal loopholes.

Do not post anything that is excessively disturbing (please use Death/Injury flair if posting a bad accident).

Change log:

  • New flairs
  • Submitters can now lock comments (comment "!lock the comments" on your post)
  • Text posts are now allowed
  • No longer required to add text (body) to video posts
  • Pictures and gifs allowed in comments
  • New automated filters against racist comments
  • Heavily reported posts automatically filtered for manual review

Please let us know if there are other changes you would like to see in this subreddit. We are open to ideas!

Thanks for reading :)

You can see the guy that got rear ended was going to make that right and aborted and the guy behind him thought he had gone and kept looking left to make his right hand turn and never looked forward again until it was too late. I’ll admit I’ve almost done this before, the post tittle is my reminder!

The reason for the traffic is because someone on an e-scooter died at Dufferin Street and Dufferin Park Drive on that date.

Just finished the trip from the Air Force Museum today and experienced it. The whole highway was delayed by at least 1 hour.

1 black SUV totalled and 1 white sedan involved. Saw an ambulance, so likely someone got injured.

Stay safe, people!

Driver blows through the red light on Sheppard and t-bones another car. Likely didn't see the light changed colours due to the intense sunset glare in front of him. Hard to tell due to the cars in front being perfectly placed to block the impact.

Close call School transport van driving like drunk

This van was all over the road, even bumps in into the curb a couple times. It said "School vehicle" on it. It didn't appear to have children in it, but I couldn't confirm.

Called 911, either having a medical episode, drunk, or inanely distracted on phone.

Officer pulled her over, she wasn't drunk, didn't haven any medical issue, she had no excuse for here bad driving. The officer said he will forward this footage to the school to review.

Didn't get any follow up after that.

Video is sped up about 2X speed or more.

This happened in March earlier this year.

I can just see these turning into giant potholes once the plows obliterate them in the winter.

Question T-bone question

I was driving straight, going 20-30 over the speed limit, and a driver made a left-lane turn when I was really close to the car, and I swerved lanes and almost crashed

Now I'm thinking: if I had hit him, would

A) Be at fault in any way due to my speed,

B) Would the driver have been killed

C) Would I have been charged for his death for my speed?

Thank You !

Question Question for Toronto drivers:

How often do you encounter situations where your lane suddenly becomes a left-turn-only lane near an intersection, but traffic is too heavy or there’s too little distance to change lanes safely? In this situation, the road beyond the intersection also narrows from multiple lanes to one. How do you usually handle this, and how common is it in Toronto?

I am looking for any dashcam footage from Bayview and 19th Ave in Richmond Hill for a white SUV that did an illegal U-turn. Their abrupt stop to undertake the u-turn caused a multi vehicle crash and they fled the scene.

Happened today (Saturday October 17, 2026) around 11:45/12:00pm heading south along Bayview.

Slowing down for the red light, it turns green, I change from brakes to the gas, and this idiot appears…
Thank god it wasn’t more slippery, he didn’t even seem to realize why I had honked 🫠

Also the time is incorrect on the camera, this was around 6:15am keele and Wilson.

Edit: the pedestrian never should have started crossing. It would have been flashing countdown, then Red hand stop for 5 seconds BEFORE the light turned green.
He’s an idiot.

Edit: at the start of the video you cannot even see him walking on the left side of the intersection to the left of the bus, also 4.20 sec into the video, you can clearly see on the right side, the red hand for no walking.

Edit: I’m sorry I can’t keep up with the comments. Look im not a murderer, I always give pedestrians right of way, this was just a fluke of him coming out of nowhere, in the dark. I’ve never hit anyone. And YES I chose to take my foot off the brake and move to gas when the light went green. I didn’t question the people stopped at the light cause i assumed they would take a minute to accelerate from zero, OR that they were on their phones as is often the case….

For everyone judging, this happened within seconds this morning and I was able to safely stop, I wasn’t accelerating going 70 thru the light or anything that fast

šŸ’„Accident Looking for Witnesses or Dashcam Footage – Hwy 401 Westbound Exit at Mavis Rd, October 12 at 2 PM

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage of a car accident that happened on October 12, around 2:00 PM, at the Highway 401 westbound exit at Mavis Road in Mississauga.

The accident involved my vehicle and a grey Honda Odyssey. We were both turning left from separate left-turn lanes (I was on the outer left turn lane) onto a road with multiple lanes. During the turn, the Honda Odyssey turned too wide and struck the driver’s side and rear door of my vehicle.

My insurance company is proposing a 50/50 fault determination since they claimed ai turned into them, which I disagree with. I’m hoping to find independent witnesses or dashcam footage that could help establish what happened.

If you were driving through this intersection around that time, were stopped nearby, or were travelling behind either vehicle, I would really appreciate it if you could check your dashcam footage.

Please send me a private message if you witnessed the collision or have any relevant footage. Even a short clip showing the vehicles approaching or making the turn could be helpful.

Mildly infuriating New trend on DVP : LEAPFROG

I see probably 10 people each drive leapfrogging the merging lanes (popping out from the right lane to gain a few cars). Pretty wild that this is normal in Toronto now? I remember years ago you’ll get the odd jackass that would do this but now any time there’s a merging lanes, multiple pop out and speed / act like jackasses

What’s the shift and when did this happen?
