Need help! FIT OR MARIST?!

I got in for fashion design for both. I want to have my own business one day, but for now what I care about is really getting involved and being in the industry. I don’t want to wait around, yk? FIT is supposed to be the best of the best, and some of the designers who are exactly where I want to be are from there. Being in the city also allows for more connections. Marist is also good for fashion- a lot of students have one big awards/scholarships. The school has more variety in curriculum and a lot of clubs. They also have a big and really nice campus, along with a good social community it seems. They are 90 minutes from the city tho. I already committed to Marist, but I can switch. I know much more about Marist than I know about FIT, but I can’t stop thinking about it. Whenever i say I committed to Marist I want to mention I got into FIT for fashion.

(P.S. I have a scholarship at Marist too, but money isn’t really a problem)

if you are craving that flexibility in curriculum, traditional campus environment, and the social community, go for marist!

but if you’re focusing on being as close as possible to fashion opportunities in the city, highly specialized and technical hands-on industry work, and don’t care about a traditional campus or possibly a super “school-bond” experience, go for fit!

you can probably make your education work at either schools, but no doubt that fit is more widely known to be a direct incubator towards the fashion industry if that’s 100% your goal.

I graduated from Marist’s fashion design program 20 years ago and it has only gotten better IMO. I was the first class that required a portfolio to get in 😬

I really valued having the campus experience and the ability to make friends outside the fashion bubble. I had several family friends who went to Marist years after me, but just like me, they’ve made lifelong friends and met their partners there. Looking back, it was the most consequential decision I made!

I’ll also say, that most of my fellow graduates even then found jobs in the industry, including myself, and most are still there or in adjacent fields.
