My vampire lore is interesting. They are not burned by the sun and can walk around in daylight freely. They have ice-cold skin and their fangs are always present. Saliva has healing properties and is actually powerful enough to fully repair broken bones or organ damage. Even though they are undead, men still have semen and the women get periods but the women can’t get pregnant by either human or vampire men.
Vampires can smell “blood scents” which is a fancy way of saying that humans and vampires have other flavors attributed to their blood alongside the common rust and salt (for example, a human might smell like roses or peaches and this is also the blood’s flavor). Whether human or vampire, most people will have either one (ex. apple) or two (ex. mango and chamomile) blood scents and someone having a combo of three or more (ex. strawberry, freesia, and blueberry) is quite rare, maybe about one in a million chance. Animals will also have a blood scent.
They cast reflections in mirrors and can cross running water as well as eat human food. And they have a choice of whether to sleep in a normal human bed or might prefer a coffin. They can disappear into shadows and have excellent vision day or night, about 10 to 20 times the normal vision of a cat. They can also flit faster than a cheetah can run and transform into bats.
When a vampire embraces (turns) another, the process is similar to Interview with the Vampire but the victim doesn’t feel the excruciating pain of their body dying. The vampire takes just enough blood to allow his or her victim to feed in return and then the victim will be reborn into their new life. Their new thirst is always constant but their throat doesn’t burn.
They don’t need to be invited into a house but it is still polite to ask, and they also have telepathy. They are immune to human diseases but still get medical checkups and vaccines to keep up appearances. Drinking blood from a sick or dead person or animal weakens them.
