I did that with Assassins Creed when Valhalla came out.

u/Sivleto Jul 10 '26

Was a fire Viking simulator. Didn't see any 'assasins creed' at all though.

Think there was a letter off basim for finishing the camp and that's it 🤣

u/Elantach Jul 10 '26

What do you mean a viking simulator ?! On the first raid I tried to wack some defenseless monks and the game warned me I'd get desynchronized ! Wth ?!

26

u/Sivleto Jul 10 '26

It's still ubi bro, I feel you though.

12

u/Mrpoindexter007 Jul 10 '26

Facts, if it was a great viking simulator I’d still like the game. I wanted to feel like Ragnar.

3

u/Snoo14398 Jul 11 '26

Nope, you have to be a morally just Viking! Even though you’re….not an assassin?

15

u/therealjoshua Jul 10 '26

Yeah it's a fun game to play if you think of it as a Viking action RPG that youre allowed to stealth kill enemies too, if you want.

3

u/Cottonshrike Jul 10 '26

I actually really liked it as its own thing. But it was the first AC game I’d played so I had no expectations from previous games.

1

u/therealjoshua Jul 10 '26

That was me with Origins. I love a good action RPG and didn't have a huge stake in Assassin's Creed as a franchise, so I ended up beating it and really enjoying my time with it.

6

u/Mischief_Managed12 Jul 10 '26

I enjoyed the hell out of the game, but yeah didn't feel like assassin's creed

1

u/U_L_Uus Jul 10 '26

Problem is, it is so hidden that you do not pay that much attention to it until you are like "oh, so it was that". Like finding the bureaus across England. Or noticing that this is the tipping point where the Order turns into the Knights Templar.

Honestly, I saw it as a way to present the next protagonist (Basim) and to close Layla's chapter (which, after the Odyssey DLCs, had become pretty... dark), not as a full, full AC

1

u/Argynvost64 Jul 11 '26

Yeah... honestly didn't bother me much though as I only play AC games for their settings, but still.

21

u/LeTurboDick Jul 10 '26

Syndicate was kinda it for me. I tried other ones like valhalla but couldnt make it past couple hours. I still replay ac2, brotherhood, black flag.

8

u/trixy6196 Jul 10 '26

Syndicate was it for me as well. Loved the setting and era but the two main characters were boring, side quests were pointless and uninteresting, the main story was beyond bland.

I felt similar to Unity but the combat and beautiful game made it not seem too bad. Back to back games like that just killed it

1

u/captainsunshine489 Jul 10 '26

agreed but i stuck it out through origins and then odyssey was actually fantastic. valhalla finally killed it for me.

1

u/Breaky_Online Jul 10 '26

Odyssey is a decent RPG, it being part of the AC franchise held it back from being more, and also ruined the name for a lot of people

1

u/OneHornyRhino Jul 10 '26

The Resynced looks nice. Haven't played it yet, but, the gameplay looks nice. Apart from its stupid needs internet to launch shenanigan, it looks like a good game

Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla were so fun. I legitimately love Odyssey specifically because I've always like ancient greek stuff. In what world are they assassin's creed games. They should have been separate stand alone things. Odyssey is such a cool vibe and there's so much to do then you just get interrupted constantly by shoe horned in shit to try to tie it to AC stuff.

2

u/RandomNPC1234567 Jul 10 '26

Ubi couldn't stand a game being released not called AC. After AC2, they should have used the studio to make a different series, which kept all the AC gameplay but under a different name.

The modern times, desyncing, and trying to push the Assassins through history just muddied everything up.

3

u/heanbangerfacerip2 Jul 10 '26

I agree but before Origins everything at least was centered around assassinating people. Odyssey and Valhalla are straight up RPGs and have entire storylines with nothing remotely related to the AC stuff.

1

u/RandomNPC1234567 Jul 10 '26

I honestly took a big break after AC2 up until Valhalla. I only played Valhalla because it was Vikings and I was in the middle of watching Vikings.

Thats what I mean though. They should have taken what they wanted to do and make it a different series. The AC stuff actually takes away from those games.

1

u/heanbangerfacerip2 Jul 10 '26

I completely agree

2

u/50eggmafia Jul 10 '26

Same. Origins was quite good and fun for me. Slogged through Odyssey and then couldn’t finish Valhalla. Haven’t touched them since.

2

u/Taco-Dragon Jul 11 '26

This is kind of me. I loved Origins, but I can't seem to get into Odyssey.

2

u/DahnZaiver Jul 10 '26

It was odyssey for me. I wasn’t big on syndicate but powered through, Origins was a big change up to the formula but the story was great. Odyssey just wasn’t creed at all, it was some Greek RPG that was bloated and dull.

1

u/DjPavlusha Sep 17 '26

Say what you want abt Odyssey, but "dull" is just not right.

6

u/PumpkinTurbulent4877 Jul 10 '26

I let go of assassins creed when rpg elements where introduce sad.

I used to be so excited when a new assassins creed released na its just scroll.

4

u/TripodDabs34 Jul 10 '26

So kinda back when Syndicate was released?

3

u/PumpkinTurbulent4877 Jul 10 '26

Yup, i wish those times

1

u/InAnimateAlpha06 Jul 10 '26

Man, I love the series but I could not get through Valhalla. Mirage was decent enough and I enjoyed Shadows.

1

u/marcophony Jul 10 '26

I stopped at Valhalla but should have stopped after syndicate

1

u/FoolishArchetype Jul 10 '26

Idk how people made it so far. Assassin’s Creed 3 was so disconnected from everything and such a mid effort I gave up on the series.

1

u/RandomNPC1234567 Jul 10 '26

Whatever was after AC 2 did it for me. Then I played the French or UK one on a kiosk and it had like "ghost" templates you could follow to tell you how to navigate.....

1

u/crazycat690 Jul 10 '26

Ironically enough it was Valhalla that got me back into the franchise after I gave it up when it turned into an RPG. Figured that it was no longer the AC I liked at that point, but I've found myself enjoying the new games after that, finished Origins maybe a month or so ago.

1

u/boda06 Jul 10 '26

I dropped AC when I encountered a game breaking bug with Valhalla after like 110 hrs. Couldn’t see the ending because my count of Order of Ancients kills got stuck at 44/45.

1

u/timelessalice Jul 10 '26

I tapped out of Assassins Creed after Black Flag. I was eh on 3 (sue me, I'm a fan of the modern storyline).

I did write a thesis paper in uni on the handling of the French Revolution in Unity and it's pro-monarchist leanings, though.

1

u/Reign_of_Ragnar Jul 10 '26

It’s a good day to be an AC fan

1

u/BriefDescription Jul 10 '26

Maaan AC used to be my favorite franchise. 1, 2, 3, Brotherhood. The multiplayer is honestly among my favorites of all time. No other multiplayer mode quite hits the same. The last AC I really played was Black Flag.

1

u/jorvel1911 Jul 10 '26

Same, althought I would try out the newer games if they go on a really good sale, they won`t beat the classics but they still look like fun games I guess, just not enough to pay 70 bucks for

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Bad_116 Jul 11 '26

I stopped playing at origins

1

u/Rx2tee Jul 11 '26

I stopped Assassins Creed after Origins. I just didn’t like where it was going

1

u/QuickRelease10 Jul 12 '26

Shadows was my last straw.

u/EL_PERRIT0 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Really that long? You didnt see Origins as a sign that they were about to pump copy after copy of their new generic rpg gameplay with AC movement shittly tacked on. (I like the AC games but the pre Origins games just hit different.)

5

u/Electric-Mountain Jul 10 '26

At least Origins had something to do with the Assassins order, and it was a good game. Odyssey is where I started to really complain.

2

u/EL_PERRIT0 Jul 10 '26

First i hear this opinion, never played Odyssey but ive heard good things about it vs Origins. Been wanting to try it.

4

u/jacobkuhn92 Jul 10 '26

It *is* good but, much like Valhalla, is wayyyyy too fuckin long and bloated

5

u/Electric-Mountain Jul 10 '26

Bingo. It also has almost nothing to do with the plot of the franchise.

4

u/jacobkuhn92 Jul 10 '26

Dude I don’t even know what the plot of the franchise is anymore. The rare points in Valhalla that it switches to the modern day stuff I’m just like “Fuckin WHO? WHAT? HUH??”

They really shouldn’t have killed Desmond off

3

u/Electric-Mountain Jul 10 '26

Yep. SPOILER They even tried to sudo bring him back at the end of the game

4

u/HollyMurray20 Jul 10 '26

Odyssey is great, but it’s not an assassins creed game

1

u/blanklikeapage Jul 10 '26

The newer Assassin's Creed games are fine game's in itself but they're not Assassin's Creed games anymore.

If you're willing to overlook what made older Assassin's Creed game feel like Assassin's Creed games and are happy with an RPG, you can still have fun.

They're also long. I took 3 to 4 longer breaks with Valhalla because they can get really repetitive.

1

u/silentshaper Jul 10 '26

I did it with unity, I saw thr Hill i front and had to say goodbye, worst feeling ever, specially after the tear inducing ending of black flag

1

u/Whiteguy1x Jul 10 '26

I really liked Odyssey.  Honestly assassin's creed lost me with 3.  I havent really liked any of them other than 1, 2 or odyssey though.

A similar experience but so much better was the Ghost of yotie or whatever.  Tight combat, beautiful world, and it doesnt have the dumb future tie in stuff that slowed down the ac games

1

u/TripodDabs34 Jul 10 '26

Syndicate was the start of the RPG stuff

0

u/Atosl Jul 10 '26

Same . This was my last game ... Until maybe black flag again ...

0

u/531091qazs Jul 10 '26

black flag was my last one and one of my favourites

0

u/stinky-bungus Jul 10 '26

I got over it by 3...
