Yeah but these arent zelda games. Different formula, different game. The original zelda spirit is completely absent

I'd argue the original Zelda spirit, as in THE original from the first Zelda game on the NES, is very much present. It's basically a modern take on that game.

Do you want them to do the same thing over and over like AC? The older Zelda games didn't go anywhere. They are still worth replaying. To me it is insane how Nintendo can continue to reinvent their games time after time. BotW to me is one of the best games ever made. I would be sad if that game didn't exist and the industry would look very different without it.

No i think its good that they reinvented the formula. But its the point where it went downhill for me. This open world go wherever you want type of stuff. No heroic adventure themes, Almost meditative silence. Large chunks of emptiness. Every chest you open feels pointless because its either an item for cooking or will break after 2 minutes. No thanks

Fair enough. To me and a lot of other people it's as good as games get. I still love the old games and replay them. I recently played Skyward Sword for the first time and was amazed because I expected it to suck after all the hate. It has some of the best classic Zelda dungeons in the series.

I do hope that the Ocarina remake will not be the only return to more classic Zelda. As much as I love BotW it would suck if every new Zelda is open world for ever.

This is my problem with most open world games - they have these huge barren worlds that offer very little aside from sheer size. There's a lot to see, but they lack purpose soul. Then as you saos there's the matter of rewards. You find a well-hidden or neat secret thinking it might be something decent - AND...ITS....5 fire arrows. Again..

I actually enjoyed BoTW for what it was, but TotK was too much of the same and bored me to tears (lolpun).

Hopefully going forward we see some kind of hybrid-style. A large semi-open world with more focus and purpose, like if Hyrule/Termina were 4x the size. Hidden heart pieces again (no shrines!) and of course classic-style dungeons.

For me, BOTW was cool, and a great game, but it didn't feel much like zelda. Then they released Tears of the Kingdom which was essentially the exact same thing with more sandbox elements thrown in. I'd argue, they did do the exact same thing over and over. If their next Zelda game is the same concept just rehashed, I'll be severely bummed.

I totally agree with you and I think BotW is one of the greatest games ever made. If every new Zelda is going to be open world then I would think that's a bummer too.

I grew up with the 2d games, nes and snes.

When 3d games starting coming out, I was not impressed at all.

I know the n64 Zelda is also considered one of the greatest games but it never did it for me back then.

I have come around on 3d games of course but Zelda just hasn’t done it for me anymore.

I have played Botw and I really don’t get it.

I wish I could see some alternate universe where it only came out on Wii U for a couple years, to see if would have been considered so great and sold more Wii U.

Cause my theory is people loved the switch and the idea of the switch more than the game, which I find super dull.

It's fine if you don't get it. Not every game is for everyone. BotW is the most sold Zelda game of all time. Not that it matters. To me it's one of the greatest games ever made. If you don't like to take it slow and just get lost in a world, not caring about quests or the next dungeon or whatever then the game is not for you. To me no other open world game has the same feeling.

I still like Final Fantasy alright and enjoyed 15 & 16 well enough but I'm not really hyped for new releases or invested to the point that I follow news religiously anymore. A game comes out, I wait until I can get it cheap on sale or buy it used and then I'll play it.

Final Fantasy is considered to be on a franchise high rn. What is it about the franchise makes you think its gone downhill?

It is an Arpg not a turn based Rpg like the og fans liked. Honestly the story and characters on 15 and 16 are decent enough but the gameplay that made FF our favorite was tossed away. They even had the gall to tell US the gamers that we really didn't want turn based FF anymore. Hopefully, the staggering success of E33 will make them realize just how damn wrong they are.

I again it just goes back to enjoying the snes ff games. 6 on snes is still the peak of the series to me. I’m sure it just hit at the best time as a kid for me.

I remember loving the graphics of ff7 back when it first released, like the world itself, but the character models sucked ass and never really cared for the story.

Anyways someplace In disc 3 or 4 my file got corrupted and I never went back cause I hadnt really been enjoying myself that much, but I was 19 or 20 so I just powered through back then.

I still played 8 through 13 out of habit I guess but never completed any of them.

I did really like the mmo ff14

Also tried ff7 remake to to get a true honest opinion for myself. I really think this title in general is one of the most overrated games of all time.

So yeah after 13 I decided I am done with the series. I think I just outgrew them. I dont really like jrpgs at all anymore, except persona 5 was very cool.

If one gets released in the future and considered a perfect 10 all around and a greatest of all time game in general, im sure I’ll check it out during a $20 sale. But im out on just another entry.

Hardly. Sales have declined ever since they decided to revamp the franchise, even though sales were consistent before they messed with the formula.

According to who? To me current FF is like current God of War, it might as well be Marvel making the games. Completely removed the special feeling those games had and replaced it with some of the worst modern gaming elements. Final Fantasy hasn't been great since 12 in my mind.
