Image / Video It's baffling just how many people doesn't understand this

Post image

If you're someone who pre-orders games, you're an active participant in the constant enshitification of gaming. Doesn't matter what game it is, you're contributing to a scummy corporate tactic that serves no positive benefit to the player.

It made sense with physical copies that had a limited quantity, now it's an outdated tradition from a bygone era.

I don’t care about reviews and others opinions I’ll play what I want

I ask myself this for preordering: Am I going to buy it day 1 regardless of what reviews say? If yes, then to me there is no difference between waiting for it to release and preordering.

pre-install, but pretty much. there's also no real harm in it either - you're buying it either way.

now, i think the real argument here is that it's baffling that so many people buy games day 1.

games can very often be purchased at 50% within 6 months, even digitally.

Is it so baffling? Story focused games consistently have videos and posts talking about spoilers within a couple days

If it's multiplayer you're looking at a skill gap starting and folks who overplay nit having their friends to play it with.

It's really nit that surprising.

Yes, it’s easy to avoid spoilers if you want. I avoided tlou2 entirely for nearly 3 years. With very little effort

If someone's really looking forward to a game and they have the money, why on Earth would they wait six months?

I dont think ive ever looked at the reviews of a game and formed an opinion of whether I'll buy it or not based off that. I either like the look of a game and buy it, or I don't.

Post is basically saying "let other people decide if the game is good for you"

Lmao. If I'm getting a game day 1 its because I DONT WANT to see reviews.

I can always resell it after playing if its a physical game, and often do if it wasnt a great experience.

You can’t even just look at any aggregate site now, without constant culture war review bombing bs.

Agreed, just look at the Halo CE remake.

Not perfect or anything, but it was getting absolutely roasted by chuds online because Cortana looked too masculine or something??

Hell, the Steam version of original FFVII is still review bombed right now because of butthurt modders convinced all their mods were forever broken and a couple Day 1 issues that were resolved back then.  (New version dropped in January, old version was delisted and anyone who had the old version got the new version for free.)

No, they're telling you to get more information about what the game is actually like. Up to that point the only source of information you have is marketing from the people who want to sell you something.

Yeah like, if my favorite game is rated like shit should I say it is shit even tho I loved it ?

Who the fuck cares about reviews? Isn't it a common thing to shit on review sites like IGN ? Review bombing is also a (unfortunately) common thing, btw.

The only reviews that might be helpful are about performance. But even those differ a lot even in the same platform, it happens that some have had issues that other players never experienced (performance wise) despite using the same platform.

I do find reviews useful when I check the reasons for ratings.  Sometimes it's review bombing, sometimes there's legitimate issues I'd rather avoid.

Only thing I really use reviews for are to see if there are a ton of bugs

There is a small risk with doing this but doing it is perfectly fine

Agreed! I’ve had a lot more fun with multiple play throughs with plenty of 5-6/10 games and sometimes struggle to get through plenty of +7/10 games.

u/RedNicoK Aug 13 '26

Depends, if the opinion is that the game has core performances problems then it is important

How do you know it's something you want if you know nothing about it other than what the companies trying to market it to you decide to show?

Most people don't have money to just throw at whatever video game looks pleasing only to throw it in the backlog after it doesn't turn out too great. That's kind of what reviews/forums are for.

There's a difference between consulting a few reviews to get a better sense of whether something is worth your money and time and not having your own opinion. It's more efficient.

I'll be honest I always wait for reviews now, Steam reviews. Because half the time the games don't even function and that's why you get mixed reviews. I waited a year to play Borderlands 4 and it still ran like garbage for many of my friends with 3080s.
