Image / Video It's baffling just how many people doesn't understand this

Post image

If you're someone who pre-orders games, you're an active participant in the constant enshitification of gaming. Doesn't matter what game it is, you're contributing to a scummy corporate tactic that serves no positive benefit to the player.

It made sense with physical copies that had a limited quantity, now it's an outdated tradition from a bygone era.

Counterpoint, what difference does it make giving Sony money for a game 3 months in advance vs 1 hour in advance or heck even 1 day after the fact, the game doesn’t magically go on sale at some point and Sony still it’s getting all the money (or whoever your buying the game from) so it really makes zero offence when you buy the game you know your gonna buy.

waiting 1 day after embargo and seeing reviews shows publishers that they cant just release broken games and expect to get paid

Some of us like to have an opinion on a product we try and we don’t need some internet guy to tell us how to like a product.

I'm gonna buy and play games how I have for over 30 years. No amount of reddit bitching will change that.

That's the rational thing to do, so naturally people will be against it. Jokes aside, that's a huge reason why it's not just pointless for consumers (unless there's a bonus), but also harmful to everyone in the long run. It definitely tells the company it's ok to release incomplete and broken products, because people will throw money at them regardless

If one is going to preorder, just wait til there's more information, at the very least. Some reviewers don't spoil anything, get products far ahead of time, and only speak on gameplay/performance, so there's enough time to know if it's for you or not and still preorder while making an informed purchase.

Do whatever y'all want in the end if you truly don't care, but people are still going to try to reason with perceived irrational/uninformed behavior. It's how we try and look out for each other, even if it may appear as asshole behavior... Sometimes lol

reviews are usually a week or two before release. Or they can just do what CDPR did and only allow the PC version to be reviewed. Or what multiple companies have done and make review versions that have a bunch of bullshit removed from it, but included in the final release.

Right but if the game works perfectly fine then really there’s no difference between a pre order and picking up on day 2, like if your skeptical about a game that’s fine but if everything about it looks solid then why not? Worse case scenario it’s a cyberpunk situation and you gotta get a refund

The majority of people don't look at reviews. So many reviewers have been shown to be paid to promote the game and if they give too low of a score they are blacklisted by the company, meaning they can't get early access to write their reviews. Why the fuck do we trust those that have a financial incentive to give good scores to mediocre games?

I literally watch the first trailer or 2 of a game and say "that looks fun" and play it. I don't care if others like or hate it.

I literally watch the first trailer or 2 of a game and say "that looks fun" and play it.

I can't do that anymore. They are all 3 second action cuts. Games are not played in 3 second segments. It's the game play between those action points that determines if a game will be enjoyable, and they all leave that out.

Differences:

1) Loss of information in your purchase decision you would have otherwise had. What if it ends up bad? You're giving up the ability to act on that information for zero benefit.

2) Loss of investment value. Paying money months early for no gain is bad process because that fee cannot earn you interest during the time of the preorder. It seems small for a single game, but when you have many bills that adds up to significant lost opportunity.

When giving a company money, the question isn't "why shouldn't I give them money?" It is, "why should I give them money?" You should get something in exchange for your dollars.

The game looks fun from the trailers I’ve seen, therefore I give them money based on the info I have.

On top of that in regards to bills to be paid if I’m struggling so hard that I can’t afford a single $80 personal purchase for myself in a month then I have bigger things to worry about then video games.

Cause you are supporting anti consumer strategies that influence other people. Gonk
