I’m so happy they kept the stylised characters instead of going for “diarrhealism”

Yes! I saw the people in Hyrule Castle Town and loved how they kept the flat, odd shapes.

I wish it was a little more cartoony. I think that Zelda games look better when the greens look more green, the water is more "crayon blue", and everything feels a little surreal.

Would you agree that BOTW split the difference perfectly?

I think BoTW is my ideal Zelda art style. Been playing the series since Links Awakening.

Agreed. Of course I'm very biased because it shares a slot with TOTK on my list of favorite games of all time.

I like that they try different art styles and don't just stick with one for everything.

Yup its all just my personal preference. Im not gonna say the arts bad here, just not my taste

It’s a beautiful art style; just needs a bit more saturation but it’s perfect without it.

Zelda offers a fantasy escape that’s rare these days because the graphics are TOO realistic in others, it’s kind of difficult to describe.

I want my goblin to look like the pages of a medieval manuscript; not something I see in person lol

BOTW artstyle is Ghibli. OOT remake is Laika.

I agree, idk what it is, it just feels... Wonky to me, like the realistic surroundings and texture with the still cartoony vibes of the characters just doesn't mix well to me. But I also admit I don't think this remake is for me. I'm happy others ar enjoying it.

Personally I think what I’ve seen gives me an “uncanny valley” vibe. The hyper-realistic fidelity and super detailed textures mixed with the cartoony designs and proportions is an off putting mix to me.

Yeah I agree with you but I also think that it kinda fits considering how creepy the original game was in some places

I agree. Young Link and Zelda especially looked off to me.

Same. And I don’t think it’s being a “hater” to see that. I’m excited, I’ll still play it, and it does look great, but the faces… they’re giving me chills. They look so strange to me.

Saria's face in particular is a horror show to me. I don't know if it's the size or spacing of her eyes or both but I think she and some of the other characters look terrible. Most of the environments we've seen look absolutely fantastic but then others are just over stylized UE5 slopified (kokiri forest I'm looking at you). It's hit and miss for sure.

I absolutely love the look. However the original N64 graphics had slightly desaturated colours -- while having a cartoonish "fairy tale" style at the same time -- that gave the game so much atmosphere. The modern remakes miss that a bit. Not a complaint, I still think it looks gorgeous and would absolutely buy if I had a Switch 2.

Edit: looking back at the footage, the original game looks more saturated than the remake LMAO. Except for maybe Castle-Town. So I retract my comment, but leave it there.

You're not wrong though in a way. There's a quality the original had that I don't feel as much on this one. I don't know. Looks great technically but I also think there's something mysterious about the old game that gets lost with the remakes.

I think the dullness of poor graphics comparably brings it a certain character when compared to modern graphics that "look" better. I think of, for example, Mario 64. You could remake that game just like this and it would look amazing, but it wouldn't look like a cartoon. OOT64 looks like a cartoon. OOTS2 looks like a modern AAA game with some cartoony characters.

Runescape went through the same sort of transition. They have a modern version and Old School. The modern version looks amazing, but it doesnt FEEL the same

Low detail of old graphics has this surreal dream like liminal effect

this is a great way of putting it. the remake looks a bit too shiny, and the slash effect feels a little extra. I don't even have a switch 2, and this looks gorgeous... but I do think that the remake could have benefitted from a little more understated approach. you don't need to force it

The cheacters look like garbage compared to most natural environments, they really shouldnt have gone so realistic it really makes link look out of place
