A single guy made an emmerald remake in that 2DHD style and the community loved it. Or at least i haven't seen any negative comments about it.
If you think the pokemon games released for the switch so far are good, I respect your opinion. I just wish we could discuss actually important sides of a videogame like the art style or the story, instead of having to deal with basic technical issues like bugs, poor performance, cut content and outdated visuals, which is what I criticize about these games. My position is that the biggest gaming franchise in the world should not be releasing games with those issues at all.
Pokemon isn't made by Nintendo, it's made by gamefreak. They suck ass and can't keep up. I would bet that if Nintendo had full creative power (so basically what Gamefreak currently has) the Pokemon mainline games would look a lot different.
The Pokemon Company is owned equally by Nintendo, Creatures Inc, and Gamefreak.
So it could not just be Nintendo, as they do not have a majority stake (although the three companies are heavily intertwined, so I'm sure the reality is quite complicated).
Gamefreak is autonomous from Nintendo, and has their own manangement. Only thing Nintedo does is publish the games they really don't have much if any say over the games.
Fair enough if that's the case. I knew Ninty were the publishers but my understanding was that publishers historically supply the money for development costs/staff etc. and stand to lose or gain money from the game's sales. Therefore they have a heavy hand in how long the game should be in the pot for, what kind of game it should be and such, while the dev team earn their salaries and try to pitch
I mean ofcourse we aren't for certain how it actually works in the background, but we do know for a fact that gamefreak is in control of the games and how/when they are made.
If there is outside pressure from Nintendo we don't know but they technically speaking shouldn't have any say (but they probably do).
But I doubt they would personally, seeing as that all of the first party Nintendo games have tons of polish and take time. I don't see how they wouldn't want the same for their most profitable franchise.
Vote with your wallet then. Game Freak really has no reason to improve their games when they can release a potato and it sells better than any Zelda game.
At the end of the day, a lot of people flat out disagree with you. The series would not survive on nostalgia and marketing alone. To most people playing them, they’re fun. Every time.
If you’re still buying these games and thinking they’re a big whiff, that’s a you problem.
Someone already made the pokemon game Nintendo wouldn't. And it's called palworld. Overwhelmingly positive reviews in steam, constant updates, and it just released it's final 1.0 version of the game
Really? I think it looks fine. Nothing mindblowing, but fine. Pokemon has never been the best looking game on any system. Look at how the GBA games look VS stuff like Golden Sun, the DS games VS Okamiden and Metroid Prime Hunters, etc. Obviously their Switch output was subpar visually, but Winds/Waves looks fairly competent.
It just looks like Scarlett and Violet with slightly better graphics. Which looked like Sword and Shield with a slightly better graphics. Plus what we've seen wasn't even gameplay footage yet. I guess I should hold judgement until it actually releases, but so far not optimistic as far as visuals. And honestly I think I'm fine with that. Maybe it's the open world that isn't working for me? It just feels like something is missing. I'll still play it I'm sure, just feels like it could be so much more.
W&W looks good to me. Certainly a huge step up from whatever they pushed with S&V.
Though, S&V does have it's moments where it looks really good for its time. Like when you're in a city. As soon as you leave the city though, it's just bland.
Pokemon is will never reach this level because their fanbase obnoxiously defend the shittiest games they put out and flock to buy it even if its a hot pile of garbage like flies. The games barely evolve , the gameplay is slow and graphic even if it's like 10 year behind the curve , the fanbase act like it's the best thing ever and buy it regardless , so why would the company try to make something good when they can sell half baked games with low effort and work .
I'm a hater but mostly cause I'm not buying a console for one game that I own 3 times already. I'm happy a new generation gets to enjoy the game and the story, to me the old shitty graphics are part of the beauty of the game. In 25+ years someone will look at this game with the same nostalgia that I look at the old one though and that I truly love.
Eh that depends on your point of view. Zelda 2 was still loved back in the day when it released, it was just different and it became to be expected. Castlevania 2, and super Mario bros 2 also were different. I was there for the launch of all of them. If thinking about a Zelda that missed I think Skyward sword fit the bill at the time of release.

Fuck the haters this looks so good.
Hate on Nintendo as much as you like, they really don't miss with their big IP's.
