Meta Update to the Video Rule

Hey Seraphs!

First off, happy holidays!

The devs and I took some time to review the subreddit rules to see if there was anything we wanted to adjust or clarify. One that stuck out was the "No videos or streams" rule.

The "no videos" rule was one of the first ones implemented. At the time, the subreddit was being flooded with videos, lets plays, etc. and this ended up drowning out any actual discussion that was going on. At the time a blanket rule made sense. Times change though, and it makes sense to reconsider the rules from time to time.

So we're going to make an adjustment to the video rule and see how it goes, and take it from there.

Below are some examples of what is and isn't allowed. While we can't account for every occasion, we'll do our best to enforce the spirit of whats outlined below.

What's allowed:

  • A new lets play series kicks off? Fine to share!
  • A base or server tour hosted on youtube? Fine to share!
  • A one off video, say deep diving into the lore? Fine to share!
  • A big creator or streamer is trying Vintage Story and want to get excited and give them their flowers? Fine to share!

What's not allowed/should be posted on r/VintageStoryVideos:

  • Videos not directly related to Vintage Story
  • every episode of a 'lets play' series
  • when you start your livestream on twitch, youtube, etc.

Again, we are going to try this out, see how it goes, and make additional adjustments over time.

If you have any concerns, feedback, etc. please let us know.

Thanks!

Mod The Depths of Chiseling Knows No Bounds

The progress of this mod is coming along so well! Ive started and worked the model of a new chisel. Here's another sneak peak of the kind of work you'll be able to do! My test world is already at 33 hours in the last 3 days. All spent chiseling and refining this mod.

"The caves were calling.. So I made them real.. but something doesn't feel right here. The vibrations in the air feel off.. Wait, Jameson. What's that faint glow at the end of the tunnel?"

I am bringing chiseling to a new scale. A new level of world building, house planning, ingame story telling. With this tool in hand, your creations will forever gain the life you so envisioned.

What types of modes would you like to see? We have many, and we have some new ones that normal chiseling can't achieve.

I know it’s a really bad photo from my phone (I’m gonna get some better ones I am just tired and forgot how to screenshot) but I decided to chisel a jukebox, I’ve become incredibly addicted to chiseling to the point where I’m now chiseling a whole RP/SMP town

My current mod list - 1.22.7

Hi everyone, I wanted to show my current modlist and small thoughts on each mod. It may give others ideas for their VS playthroughs. What would you add or remove?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adventurer's Walking Stick - Take or leave it to be honest, I like the benefits it provides.

All sides have resin - Depends if you can be bothered to do a 360 on every pine tree. I cant..

Auto map markers - Super good for scouting reasources and going back later - good customisation!

Bats - Cool mod, wish there was some more mods for birds.

Better Loot - I like the loot this adds to killing mobs.

Better Ruins - Feel like if you dont use this mod the world feels too empty

Better Traders - I like the variation of different trader posts

Bigger Pockets - Vanilla Inventory space is too little for me, probs could config to make it fairer.

Blood Trail - Cool mod for hunting

Butchering - Immersive mod for animal harvest, I love the look of a meat cellar, plus adds a cool use for wild game meat.

Calm Rapids - Too noisy in vanilla!

Carry On - Great mod and well balanced imo

Chiseled Block Retention - Good for chiseled fireplaces

Chisel Tools - Should be default with vanilla imo

Conquest Blocklayer overhaul - Cool worldgen

Conquest Landform overhaul

Enternal Seraph Chests - Take or leave it tbh, feels good to upgrade to a higher tier chest.

Fancy Fences - Cool fence variations

Farseer - Minecraft Voxy but for VS

Firepits Show Fuel - QoL and cool textures that should be vanilla

Food Shelves - Great for decking out your cellar, love the cut ice feature to simulate a fridge.

Footprints - Cool for tracking animals

Forest Symphony - Great ambiance, sometimes too loud but I love the bird sounds

From Golden combs - Makes bee farming more immersive

Gravestones - I dont like loose loot, the skeleton one was cool too but out of date.

Grid for Beams - Honestly essential for making lined up builds.

Item pickup notifier - Take it or leave it. It works well with Rust drops.

Jacks Composting - More immersive/ rewarding version for composting.

Komet - Performance :)

Reduced Leaf Models - I lagged too much in forests

Material Needs: Flowers - I like the look this gives certain biomes

More Animals - Adds chicken variation, I like.

More Fat from Animals (Butchering) - 1 or 2 fat from a bear seems stupid so I added this.

Place on Slabs - Good for building.

Plains and Valleys - World gen is cool.

Real Smoke - I turn it off for torches but like it for fireplaces.

Seasonal Flowers - Cool feature, doesnt make sense why flowers are about in winter.

Shelf Obsessed - Yeah, should be a vanilla feature.

Simple Bed Spawn - Take it or leave it, I know temp gears exist but I like this.

Sortable Storage - Great.

Status HUD - Customisable and QoL.

Stone bake oven - Great for bakery builds, vanilla oven is cool just limited

Stone Quarry - Good for building on a large scale.

Temporal Symphony - Should be vanilla, brilliant immersion. The earthquakes are so cool.

Terra Prety - Good world gen.

Th3 Dungeon - Dungeon mod.

Vintage Crop Yield & IRL maturation - My own Json mod to make farming for realisic, felt like I got too many drops per year.

VS Roofing - Brilliant roofing mod.

Algernons Watersheds - Can get some cool rivers, not perfect though.

Zinkmod autoclay - Im lazy.

Rust Drops - Again , Im lazy. QoL.

Antique Harmony - Cool music

Realistic Cylinders ; Antique Cylinders - Take it or leave it.

Discussion My new pretty good iron mine has low temporal stability at the surface. Any hope for it?

It's December of my first year at 60°N, and I've struck my first iron in an area of negative temporal stability at the surface. I'm somewhere between very eager and desperate to get this mine working. Of course, I expect temporal stability to drop when I'm down below, then for me to have a heated place at the surface where I can recover.

So what can I do? It's -20°C out and getting colder. I feel like running through the woods to a temporally stable warming shack is a good way to get killed. Does building an indoors area, hanging a lantern, or occupying a place maybe increase stability somehow?

Mel-Lenxia: Falornaris Quarry - Week 60 - Building a mine~ Is chiselling a mine rather than digging it still mining?

G'day Everyone~

Small post for another small week! As I am still not feeling best I haven't much to show this week but I managed to start working on the prefab tiles for the mining tunnels around the quarry. What you see here was mainly built over this weekend so many of the segments are yet to be created so consider these as a little sneak peek. Once completed  these should drastically speed up my ability to build mines as I can layout the mines quickly leaving my free time for the more fun task of detailing and decoration.

As for this new week, I would like to continue working on the mine segments when I have the energy for it.. It has been a nice change of pace though. I've enjoyed making what i have so far Anyway, nice and short post for this week hope you've enjoyed my little mining tile set 'sneak peek', I look forward to any comments or suggestions.

See you all next week~

First Vintage Story world as a Minecraft player

Hello! I want to share my experience for the first time with Vintage Story, as a casual player of Minecraft from 2014.

I started to play it previous week and I like it. Many details. I will talk how the gameplay feels on different sections.

Crafting
For me, crafting system is easier on Vintage Story, to an extend. I don't like crafting table texture and mostly I hide under other objects. It's making more sense to have a tool, instead of a block. I like the clay molding, metal smelting and forging.

Building
I have so many ideas with chiseling. I love it. I like roman style and mediterranean style. I am a little unhappy with the colors of blocks. There a few smooth saturated colors in creative, but not available on survival.

Farming
I have a garden in real life, so many things were familiar. I gathered every plant I found around good for food. I made two gardens: one for crops and one for berries. I made a mistake with high fertility soil. I placed it and used it. Later, I found out that I can't get back and it's making sense.

Hunting
Died so many times... At least 10 times just in June. Well, next to the house is a forest and bears appear. I build a 3 blocks wall and 1 block wide entrance. I hit the bear, run to the door. He runs after me, but can't pass and hit the bear behind the door until it dies.

Food supplies
Well, I cant say I have enough. I could handle until February if I am very careful. I didn't died of hunger yet. Crop farm helped me, but berries didn't. They are slower.

Gathering materials
I discovered I am bad at exploration. I found a deposit of red clay very far from home, then I discovered another 3 deposit much near to my house. I was moving too linear.

Mining
It's interesting. First trip of mining, Prospecting, I found a point with 3% while around it was 1%. I decided to try my luck. I found quartz with silver instead. Later, I found copper nuggets on surface and mined them. What helped me, a trader that sells ore bits: copper, zinc, tin and bismuth. With the gold from panning, I have 3 types of bronze.

Storage
I made a mistake here. I crafted reed baskets instead of reed chests and my house looked chaotic until I found clay.

Exploration and information
I like the map and marks. It helps a lot. Also, the handbook menu is very useful. Wiki page should be improved. Also, the handbook doesn't have enough information on some subjects, like ore smelting or alloys.

Conclusions and future plans
Overall, I like the game how it is and I think I will remain with Vintage Story. I want to see what improvements could be push. The plans for my world are:

  1. extend the crop farm to have enough food from it so can I focus on other things than hunting.
  2. decorate the house with chiseling
  3. modify the furnace, it's looking a little weird for me.
  4. maybe a small series, on YouTube with time period established during Roman Republic, like the one I made on YouTube.

Is it bad to use Wildcraft trees + shrubs and all of the floral zones mods together? There's so many plants/shrubs everywhere, and I like the diversity, but there's way too many everywhere.

Maybe there's a way to disable the shrubs from the wildcraft trees & shrubs mod, or maybe I shouldn't be using all of the floral zones mods together. What does everyone else do who uses these mods?

I don't want to use the biomes mod because I don't want to separate everything.

Question Tips for Paying with FZ, Fotsa, & Biomes?

• Upvotes

I want to play with the floral zones suite as well as all the Fotsa mods while using Biomes, because the idea of exploring entirely new regions with new plants and animals sounds like so much fun to me. Small snag, when I use all these mods together, I get lag spikes that make the game almost unplayable. How do y'all set these up? Are they not meant to be played with all at once like the Biomes mod page suggests?

For context, here are my current mods at the point it becomes unplayable due to lag (haven't even installed any of the crafting mods or building block mods)

Cigarettes Mod - Lungs of Victory Temporal Edition

Thumbnail
mods.vintagestory.at
364 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I know there are many chores with Vintage Story, everyone deserves a smoke break! So here I go:

Grow tobacco, cure it, shred it and roll it by hand or by the dozen. Smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes or a vaporizer that runs on temporal gears. Collect nineteen parody brands in hand-dyed packs (one of them rots). Climb the 71-achievement Smoker's Ledger for character traits and server-wide shame. Then flick the butt onto the ground and watch the pile grow.

Every item description doubles as a health warning. Your lungs called. They want a divorce.

Discussion Massive cemetery project

I like to world build, partly for dnd but mostly cause I just like it, and obviously the hardest part is naming a lot of people, so I had a fun idea to dedicate myself in game to a giant cemetery where I can populate it with name ideas I come up with so any time I need a name I can just wander in it until I find a good one. I figure I can also put in existing characters who have or are dead as fun little Easter egg to myself, maybe even decorate the stone or surroundings in a way that hints at their death or life. I wanted to share the idea and maybe see other eneteries or grave sites people may have built on their worlds for inspiration. I have alot of shale near my base so I’m most likely gonna make black stones with some kind of light stone for letters. I don’t actually KNOW where any light stones are since the world is newish, but once I find them if there’s enough I might just make white stones with black letters and invert it for pre-existing characters. That’s all thanks :)
