In 2015 14 year old Ahmed Mohammed was arrested for bringing in a clock he "created" that his teacher thought looked like a bomb. This set off a firestorm, started the #IStandWithAhmed trend on social media and culminated with an invitation to NASA and the White House to show off his "invention"

I agree with you, the protester should have not said that. But from the reporting it doesn't say he joked about the device he built being a bomb.

Ahmed Mohommad never did, no. He was accused of bringing a bomb. The protestors were mad that the accusation came about, and they brought clocks. Most protestors understood what actions were appropriate. This one older guy, though, got too into it. Instead of waiting to be accused of bringing a bomb, he started stating that he brought one. That crossed a line. I liked (and like) this teacher, so I told him, "Hey, you can't say that, that's actually a crime."
