Two words. Glob Herman.

7

u/burkey347 3d ago

Is he OK? Is he safe?

12

u/P-ckledP-nda 3d ago

He’s second to Greycrow the best part of the issue. Hell he might even be the better part.

3

u/BergmanGirl 2d ago

My boy fucking rocks.

u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix 3d ago

Three words...Glob freakin' Herman! 😎

u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler 3d ago

Killer issue from Netho Diaz and Arthur Hesli especially the colors.

Great issue to get Greycrow to join the team. I assume the end with Glob is his AoR version coming back from the future? It could be someone else in general but first human in years makes me think AoR.

12

u/Wowerror Hellion 3d ago

I am curious if the Glob stuff is going to be just DNX related or laying the seeds for future adjectiveless stuff.

8

u/antsinmyeyesmauger Nightcrawler 3d ago

It felt more like future stuff since he went back to bed. It doesn't seem like we'll see the factory again until after DnX

18

u/star-mind-girl Xorn 3d ago

With Greycrow, Xorn and most importantly the GOAT Glob Herman in the factory Z.E.R.O. didn't even stand a chance.

The issue had shockingly little actual plot progression but huge character story progression for 2 of the 3 mutants featured. I suppose the same thing happened to Globs conscious as to Cyclops in AOR, no?

Anyway, great art, great character work, Shen Xorn (!). All around great issue.

MacKay is awesome but I genuinely think he completely forgot about Trevor Fitzroy being held prisoner at the factory.

2

u/lepton_neutrino 1d ago

Didn't they turn him over to the Hellions?

2

u/SaltyHoneyMustard Stryfe 1d ago

It was speculated that they might but it didn't (or hasn't yet) happen.

- God, Z.E.R.O are such perfectly hateable little bastards. The complete refusal to acknowledge that Doug and co. only took out their guys when they attacked first with lethal intent is such believable cognitive dissonance for such massive racists. I do hope that Lundqvist survives his mutation, because I want him to come up against these guys and confront what he was (unknowingly) a part of.

- Xorn is so fucking good in this issue, just this perky little sunshine sarcastic man, which is, imo, peak characterisation for a character like him, even if the character is so laden with messy continuity that it's hard to nail down exactly who Xorn is a lot of the time.

- Really enjoyed Diaz's art in this issue - I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's really grown by leaps and bounds, and having a colourist who can encourage his best instincts is working wonders for this book. I'll miss Daniel, but Diaz is great, imo.

- Honestly, kinda silly that the Z.E.R.O agents don't just destroy the moderator coil once they've got it, since that would leave the X-Men up shit creek without a paddle. A line about it being impossible to destroy because it's alien materials would have helped.

- Greycrow going beast mode is such fun. I've seen some people decry that he's beyond redemption given his role in the Mutant Massacre, and, hey, maybe they have a point, but frankly, he fits right in with this team because of that - there's very few members of the team who don't have innocent blood on their hands, even if we don't have a confirmed child casualty to their name.

- "Maybe the X-Men need a bad man." Who the fuck needs Wolverine, man, Greycrow is so much more worthwhile as an addition to the team.

- Damn, just gonna burn up the bodies, huh? I mean, I get it, but damn that's (ironically) cold.

- The "I never made it to medical," was such a good fucking reveal, man, and hooooooly shit, Punished Glob really made Greycrow look like a pushover, like, he went full on fucking John Wick on their asses. The dialogue made it clear that it's AoR Glob (trained by the Punisher, for those who didn't read that Infinity comic) in Herman's body, since he references not having seen humans in years despite normal Glob having seen humans out in Merle right before he got shot, but the question is how. We know for a fact that it's not AoR Beast's doing, since he explicitly said he didn't have time to send back another person before their world was consumed by Revelation, but who? Is there another variation on the Age of Revelation existing in 616's future, unaverted because Doug is still on his collision course with destiny? I believe that's been the case with the Age of Apocalypse, that there are multiple minor variations on the same timeline caused by the same incident point, so it's not without precedent. Are they just sending more and more people back, a la Terminator, to fight a shadow war against Revelation? I really do hope we haven't lost normal Glob, he deserves better than to be trapped in a doomed future . . .

Another very good issue! MacKay's character work remains excellent, imo, and everyone feels rightly distinct and like themselves. A very good way of continuing the main book's throughlines through an event and making it relevant to the themes of the wider storyline, while opening up some intriguing mysteries for post-DNX. MacKay's in it for the long haul, it seems!

Holy cow, what hapenned to Glob?

Imagine trying to murder a bedridden hospital patient only for him to beat you to death with his oxygen tank.

13

u/BillybobThistleton 3d ago

I'm assuming he's possessed by his future self, probably from Age of Revelation but other options are available.

5

u/Minute-Reference-924 New X-Men 3d ago

How did his future self get back in time?

10

u/minusthesnake 3d ago

They're not going to explain everything in one issue. We shall see!

3

u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix 3d ago

Well...we don't have to imagine it anymore. 😂

12

u/Minute-Reference-924 New X-Men 3d ago

I'm really curious how the Infernal Hulk stroy line intersects here considering Glob was kidnapped... is be fine with that being ignored honestly

10

u/Terrible-Issue-4910 Egg 3d ago

Yep, that's clearly AOR's Glob. "First fucking human I see in years..." only makes sense if it's another version of Glob. That, or he's possessed by someone/something else. But this issue seemed to pick up a little on the events with Doug and ZERO, so I would assume it's setting some AOR-related stuff for the rest of the run.

10

u/TheMattInTheBox Cyclops 3d ago

Glob had to go back to bed, he'd solve the entire conflict in DNX if he wasn't so sleepy

7

u/wowlock_taylan 3d ago

Aww look at Greycrow, even accepting to be an X-men for love! ( and kill people! )

But the actual story is, Glob?! Did he get taken over by his Age of Revelation self? What would happen to our Glob if that is the case, considering everyone got 'merged' into the planet in that future?

7

u/Classic-Ad4883 3d ago

A good issue and a nice character focus moments

Greycrow is an interesting character to join the x-men as he is not conforming to their ideals but being their member to do the more bloody work

The glob scene was genuinely surprising and made me remember he was a apart of the omega gang in his first appearance

My theory is that glob is a sleeper agent sent back AOR cyclops to takeout future enemies before they become a huge threat

10

u/cyclopswashalfright Moonstar 3d ago

I am of two minds about Age of Revelation Glob being there. On one hand, I am kind of glad the Age of Revelation wasn't a total waste of time. But on the other hand, I do think it was a bad event and maybe should be forgotten.

I am curious as to how he was even back. They were all supposed to have died at the end of Age of Revelation. Did Glob retrieve a time-travel device and escape before that? Or did the X-Men survive somehow?

I think we're going to see the X-Men team split up too. I don't know if this means we'll get another X-Men title, or if they'll just double ship X-Men fully and each team gets 1 issue per month, but I don't think the team as it is can handle all the members they have, especially with Greycrow joining and Magneto becoming a functioning part of the team, plus Jean coming to Earth. And then Jed and Brevoort teased other changes to the composition of the team, so I think we're going to see some kind of split.

10

u/BiDiTi 3d ago

I do think that the Jed parts of AoR worked…and are the only part that shouldn’t be memory-holed, haha

10

u/minusthesnake 2d ago

Yes, all of Jed's AoR stuff was great! And I'm glad new plot elements are still being revealed from it. Especially this one, as Glob was one of my favorite parts of AoR.

Everything else during AoR was completely pointless and they basically tricked readers into buying a bunch of shit they didn't need by implying the event was going to function like Age of Apocalypse and all be part of one large story. Breevort has admitted that they got a ton of blowback from it and that's why DNX is so self contained.

Even worse they collected AoR across three trades, but instead of putting all of Jeb's books (the main story) in one trade. They put one Jeb issue in each of the other two trades that are otherwise full of unnecessary side stories, just to force people to buy all three. Fucking assholes.

u/BiDiTi 2d ago

Fucking Yoshida-san’s nostalgia for that toyetic nonsense - Brevoort mentioned before it went live that it had only happened because Loeb wasn’t sure he’d be free to do his mini and an AoA anniversary event wasn’t optional for the X-Office.

u/_Vivat_Grendel_ Stryfe 1d ago

I love AOA, but Lord it was just so much better as a reversed and erased reality with only the four refugees making it out.

I even really like Remender's Dark Angel saga but would undo it stopped milking AOA dry every few years.

3

u/kittyfajitas0_o Cyclops 2d ago

I’m so tired of companies in general trying to trick people into buying their products, rather than just making a product that is worth buying.

5

u/Otherwise_Report2428 Glob Herman 3d ago

This issue might be Diaz’s finest hour so far. Great scope paneling when Greycrow went to work.

And after two years or so, we get killer Glob finally outside an AU

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Bar-769 2d ago

it’s so rad that MacKay gave us an issue where the featured “X-Men” are Xorn, Greycrow, and Glob. Crazy roster!

2

u/Icy_Scar_1249 20h ago

Yeah I love it, 10/10. This is becoming one of my favorite recent X-Men runs, I don't care what anyone says

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bar-769 20h ago

I’m with you!! It’s got a quirky edge that I’m totally enjoying

4

u/mbene913 3d ago

Glob kicking ass!!!!

We the people demand a Glob solo title. Just put Glob in every book!

5

u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix 3d ago

John Greycrow may have done most of the fighting. But Glob Herman stole the show at the end, as he should. 😎

8

u/mighty-rockman 3d ago

Not sure how I feel about Greycrow joining the X-Men. He's not a character I particularly like, but Glob was great in this issue.

3

u/Icy_Scar_1249 2d ago

I love when these random characters join, specially underrepresented minorities

3

u/angelic-beast Magik 3d ago

Great issue, can't wait to see where they go with Glob

3

u/greendart Iceman 2d ago

so it seems like Glob from the AoR is the one that infected present-day Magneto with the cure to the virus? That would make the most sense to me

2

u/YouCannotBlockTruth 2d ago

As I continue to read the X-Men books, I am convinced that this should have stayed the title for the legacy Uncanny line and Uncanny should have become the New Muntants or gotten some other title. Wolverine would have fit in much better with this team as well, and maybe have him cameo in Simone's New Mutant book.

I'm excited reading MacKay's title and DNX is so awesome.

u/Fickle_Ad8735 3d ago edited 3d ago

An issue centered around Scalphunter and he even joined the team? Truly rock bottom.

11

u/jethawkings 3d ago

If you followed Wells' Hellions run it's a good follow-up on that narrative thread of him and Kwannon getting together.

-1

u/Fickle_Ad8735 3d ago edited 3d ago

Unfortunately he's a child murderer. I guess it's time for Mesmero and Mastermind to have a shot at redemption as well lol.

4

u/lepton_neutrino 2d ago

Per Claremont's Wolverine mini, that was his clone; this is the original.

2

u/Fickle_Ad8735 2d ago

Other way around. The one who worked for Sinister and helped with the Massacre (after Gambit recruited him) was the original and the current one is the clone who coincidentally happens to have memories from his original body.

1

u/lepton_neutrino 1d ago

Claremont retconned it in the 2024 Wolverine: Deep Cut miniseries, where he went on a mission to kill the Marauders involved in the Mutant Massacre. which freed the originals.
