Stickied Topic Megathread – Halo’s Future
As you have probably heard, Halo Studios has been reduced to a small team that will support the current games and community. Activision will be putting together a new team to make a new, full Halo title. (source)
Link to previous discussion of the announcement.
This thread is for discussing the future of Halo with Activision.
What are your expectations, hopes, fears, concerns, and otherwise thoughts about it? Do you want a reboot or a sequel to Infinite? When should it take place? Do you have a pitch? Let’s discuss.
If you find actual news about the game from either an official or well-respected source, feel free to make a new thread. Otherwise, let’s keep the discussion here. You don’t need to make a whole thread just to share your specific thoughts or speculation.
If you'd like to discuss Halo's past with 343 Industries/Halo Studios, use this thread.
In case it needs to be said: there is absolutely no decent reason to celebrate the loss of hundreds of peoples’ jobs. Of course you are free to discuss and criticize the decisions made by leadership roles and executives that led us to this place. But the majority of the employees who lost their jobs today were people like you and me who were trying to do their best for a franchise we all love. Anyone who celebrates the loss of their livelihood will be banned from this forum.

Feedback UNSC Frigate Hangar Bay Doors Opening
Hey, guys! I’m back with another WIP, and I’ve got a question for you all.
I’m still undecided on which opening mechanism to use for the hangar bay doors. I really like how clean the ship looks from the outside when the doors open inward, but obviously, they take up space inside the hangar. Even so, there’s still enough room for a Pelican to fit.
So, what do you guys think? Should the doors open inward or outward? Or maybe a combination of both, like the setup on Hangar Bay 4?
I think opening outward would obviously be the most practical option, but I can’t deny how good those doors look when they open inward. Or maybe I could just keep all three options viable and have the opening method depend on the situation.
If you'd like to support my work, you can do so by subscribing to my YouTube channel, where you can also watch all these videos in 2K resolution: https://www.youtube.com/@rayviz_fx
Thanks a lot! Have a good day.

Media Halo books chronogical order
Here a little update of my halo book list since Parasite Wake. The 35 books in the chronogical order by arranging them by time period. Some of them, like Fall of Reach and Broken Circle, extend over several periods, so I separated them as part 1 and 2
For the last books during the Created Uprising, here a little resume of the chronological events :
- Bad Blood and Legacy of Onyx : the direct consequences of the Created Uprising just after Halo 5
- Shadow of Reach : Blue team on Reach against the Banished to recover Halsey brain (Atriox came back to the Arch and the Keepers and the the Furret follow him)
- Divine Wind : the Keepers and the the Furret on the Ark
- Outcast : the Arbiter and Vale on Netherop
- Epitath : the Cortana death events in the Domain
- Empty Throne : the Cortana death events in the galaxy
- Rubicon Protocol : Between Cortana death and the Master Chief wake up at Halo Infinite begin
- Edge of Dawn : Literally just after Halo Infinite end
I'm curious to know how many of them you read ? I also really wonder who read Halo books ? Are you Halo gamers or sci-fi readers ?

Discussion The problem of falling in love with certain characters and forgetting the broader picture of war
There’s an issue with the lore and with some fans who I don't think quite understand it yet.
One thing that’s been bugging me is that a small part of the audience seems to think the Banished are basically an idealistic political force whose ultimate goal is peace. Seriously, there's actually a portion of the fanbase that believes this. I mean, where are they even getting this from? For example, I have a friend who literally said that Atriox’s philosophy—and everything the Brutes went through because of Cortana—brings them closer to being worthy of the Mantle of Responsibility. I was just like, wait, what?
The Brutes literally still allow the processing and eating of humans. Anyone who played Infinite and listened to the audio logs knows exactly what I’m talking about, where they separate the humans who will be eaten from those who won't. Anyone who’s read the books knows things are even worse.
On top of that, there are fans who think the Sangheili could assume the Mantle. Man, they literally used to let the lower-tier troops eat people in battle and didn't care at all. Not to mention their blind obedience at all costs. Even if they've changed now, that doesn't wipe away the stain—just seven years ago, they literally let the Unggoy and Kig-Yar go wild on people on the battlefield.
Another part of the story that bothers me is Buck calling the Elites 'comrades,' when he’s from Draco III. Anyone who knows a bit of history knows full well what happened on that planet.
Anyway, what do you guys think about this? Where do you think this comes from—people ignoring the story and believing that a single heroic act erases a race's past sins? Even the Librarian, who literally did everything to save all life in the galaxy, didn't have her species spared from the Flood and the judgment of the Precursors, let alone a lesser species like the Brutes, whose primary role right now is basically pillaging.
Do you think people's passion for certain characters makes them lose sight of the big picture? Like with many Arbiter fans, who forget that he must have killed between 1 to 5 billion people, making him, according to the game’s lore, easily one of the top 10 greatest genocidaires.
Anyway, I’m asking you this because I have friends who are fans of various characters—I’m a fan too, especially of characters like the Arbiter—but I know how to separate my personal fondness from the actual narrative and the context in which these characters appear. I’ve noticed that many people become so enamored with characters like Atriox—elevating them to such a high pedestal—that they completely overlook the actions those characters commit in the present. I mean, seriously, do you know people like that—people who go so far as to claim that the Brutes should have held the Mantle of Responsibility?

Discussion What do you personally hope the setting of the Next Halo Game is?
I would personally like a Spin off FPS Halo Game set during the Harvest Campaign. It seemed so interesting in Halo Wars and I would really enjoy seeing the early human Covenant War in a mainline Halo Game.

Discussion Former Halo Bungie Dev Hardy LeBel gives advice to the new Halo Activision Team: "Just reboot the freaking story. You can't tell a story where you already know how it ends. It ended."
Hardy LeBel was on a panel and he gave really two pieces of advice to the new studio who will be making the next Halo game.
"1. Any new team that's gonna do it [make a new Halo game] has to have the confidence in their own creative ability to make the calls and be free."
He gives the example of deciding "Red and Blue" for team based multiplayer games without needing to question or second-guess or get approval, and the team was confident in their instincts and decision making. Then he recounts a conversation he had with a 343/Halo Studios developer who told him about how they want to be "sacred" to the choices Bungie made even with very arbitrary things like crate placement in the game environment (I am guessing he is talking about Campaign Evolved and respecting those original choices?). LeBel basically says those things weren't sacred at all, they just need the confidence to execute in this creative direction.
"And number 2, just reboot the freaking story, just start it again. Tell the story of the Covenant War. Tell the story of rediscovering the rings. Look. You can't tell a story when you already know how it ends. It ended."
I fully expect the start of a new story from the next Halo game, whether it is set in the "current lore" or will be retconning previous storylines is still yet to be determined and we might not know until the game comes out! But I agree that continuing Master Chief's story was not a good move.
What do y'all think?

Discussion How many of the books are worth reading?
Hi all, just after reading my copy of The Fall of Reach from when I was a young teenager, and really enjoyed it. Reading The Flood now, not quite as good so far, but I guess that’s just cause a lot of it is basically a description of Combat Evolved lol.
I’ve just see the awesome chronological timeline for the Halo novels, a lot I haven’t even heard of, and wanted to know if it’s worth reading all of them?

Discussion I think Halo Infinite should've stared Jerome-092 instead of Master Chief
From a narrative standpoint, it makes far more sense given Atriox as the primary antagonist. Playing a character who already has history with Atriox makes far more sense than needing to establish a new personal conflict between Chief and Atriox.
Jerome-092 also has way more room for personality, depth, and character growth than Chief did at this point in his overarching narrative.
For those of you wondering what could be done with Chief then? Keep the opening of the game. But now Jerome has to find Chief while also battling the Banished on the Ring. And throughout the game, as we upgrade Jerome and he takes on taller and taller challenges and obstacles, he crafts himself into a spartan capable of picking up Chiefs mantle at a time when really, Chief should be getting ready to retire or have a proper send off.

Fan Content I Made a 1:2500 scale Spirit of Fire
I’ve been doing a series of Halo ships all in the same scale. So far there’s been the Pillar of Autumn, Forward Unto Dawn, and Burden of Proof. But the SOF is my favorite Halo ship design! I even got the base builder ships from Halo Wars attached magnetically to the bottom of the wings. Next is the Marathon class, but the Infinity isn’t far off. Hope you like it!

Gameplay Played CE when it came out, as a youngster. I'm a PC guy now. Since I have Gamepass Ultimate I installed Campaign Evolved on my Xbox Ally X. Hesitantly gave it a go, thinking my controller days were long gone. Here's the part that kicked my ass as a kid, on Heroic! Having a blast! What about y'all?
Not only am I totally competent with a gamepad/controller, I'm even better than I was when I used one exclusively, as a kid, despite not touching one for a decade and a half, more or less. Very pleasantly surprised. I may even go for a Legendary playthrough after this one. Anyone else have something like that occur, and want to share? Maybe some things are like riding a bike, in a way?

Discussion "The reason the first Halo games were great and why subsequent Halo games struggled is because we were trying to make the absolute best game possible. We were not supporting a corporate initiative." Jaime Greisemer, former Bungie/Halo Game Designer
Jaime Greisemer was asked what advice he would give the new studio developing Halo, here is the full snippet:
I think the most important thing is that the reason the first Halo games were great and the reason why subsequent Halo games struggled, is because we were trying to make the absolute best game possible. We were not supporting a corporate initiative. We were not harmonizing with platform strategy. You can't make the best game possible and also include microtransactions. And whatever cloud services we're pushing this month. It's just...you can't have both of those goals in mind. It has to be about making the best decisions for the game."
A really interesting perspective on the 343 era of Halo. Halo 5 very famously introduced Loot Boxes and microtransactions into Halo for the first time.
Halo Infinite was also meant to be not only a launch title for Series X, but had to maintain parity between Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Series X, and PC versions. It was also free to play while monetizing cosmetics that players were used to receiving from playing the game.
I think this highlights the mismanagement that has been evident even to players with the last few Halo releases, and hopefully the next Halo game doesn't need to be a "Day One Game Pass Play Anywhere Cloud Streaming Free To Play Live Service" title, but instead delivers a full, complete Halo experience start to finish (at launch!)
