General r/Uganda Guidelines

1. New to Reddit: here's a link to give you a walkthrough of what Reddit is about

2. Wondering if you're being scammed: Read this

3. Want to see specific posts e.g opinions/discussions, relationship conversations?

Each post is required to have a flair. You can then filter your feed via this sub using these flairs. The filters are right above the posts(mobile) and in the right side bar(desktop)

4. Are you looking for a role/job?

Make a post using the 'Person for hire' flair. You can use it any day of the week but only once a week.

5. When purchasing items:

Please do not pay for your items before receiving them. Mods can't verify authenticity of sellers. They can only be banned after reports are received. For the sellers, use trusted delivery people/meet in public to ensure payment.

Do report any scammers encountered.

6. Selling/Giving away personal items

You can post these at any time. Use 'Personal item for sale' flair. If SELLING, ADD PRICE(S) IN COMMENTS OR POST.

7. Self promotion/Ads:

New advertisers: we have a self promotion period consisting of the following days: Fri and Mon. After your first ad, your entry will be added in this directory: https://www.reddit.com/r/Uganda/wiki/self_promotion_schedule.

Upon being included in this directory, you shall from then on be allowed to post on the first weekend of each month. Reminders shall be sent out.

Exceptions for repeat ads throughout the month shall be let through.

8. Looking for people to work for you?

Please use the 'Hiring' flair.

9. Searching for a relationship?

WEDNESDAY is the day to do this here. Use the M4F and F4M flairs. Don't make another post on the following wednesdays.

Read the sub rules for further guidelines.

If you have any suggestions/complaints/queries about the sub, send them through modmail.

Opinion/Discussion Is 1.7M shillings enough to send to my mum monthly?

I send my mum back home an average of 1.7m - 2m monthly. She rents a house that is 500,000 a month. She sometimes sends 300,000 to her mum in the village but her mum has now moved to live with her. Every month, after about 1 week or halfway through the month, she always says that she doesn’t have money. She always talks like she never has any money. Can someone please help me understand how far 1.7 -2M takes you in Uganda. She has no children to take care of, only my grandma. I offer send more money for emergencies such as hospital.
But im struggling with the relationship with money an my mother at the moment.

To give you an example: I send 1.7M at the start of every month. I’ll speak to her about 10 days later on the phone and she will already start peppering in the conversation how she needs this and that but she doesn’t have the money. This month, 11 days after sending her the money, she said that she has run out of Gas and needs gas but doesn’t have money. I have held back just sending her the money because I feel she should be budgeting this for herself in the money she receives. I myself now have a child and not earning as much money that I can just afford to send her extra money whenever she wants.

I’ll appreciate any help given to better understand the cost of living in Uganda now for a person (who now also has her elderly mother living with her)

My mum has not worked much really. She’ll start a business here and there which I will help fund for her but always always seems to not work out after a week or so. I have given up giving money into things she’s not committed to. just for background info!

So some gentleman from my bike club is busy vibing vibing me yet we’ve spoken like twice in life. All he knows about me is my first name.

Little does he know that I am a detective

All I had was his first name and title, and a little digging has got me his entire history and lineage.

Turns out he has my father’s surname 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can’t wait for him to find out

“How did your relationship die?”
“Prematurely by natural causes”

I’m so excited

Opinion/Discussion Changing Uganda

Hey Everyone, I've been quietly observing our country slowly going down the drain over the past few decades. The question of how do we stop this descent has been a recurring one to me personally. It initially seemed that politics would never be an answer as most of our MPs only care about themselves. I have however, noted that Solomon Solomon Serwanjja has made strides for his village when he became LC 1 chairman there. This got me thinking about building a like minded driven community. Now having said this, community means joining with others. So I guess I'm looking for like minded people to join with with the goal of building something great together. I heard about a community like this called Ugandans at heart or something similar but when I tried asking about how the community was run, this ended up raising more questions than answers. Long story short, I want to start an open community with clear and transparent power structures whose long term goals include but are not limited to

  1. Building a community of professionals in different fields to share expertise and ideas.
  2. Buy land for the community for construction of housing, schools, hospitals etc.
  3. Build systems within the community that take care of things like inheritance quickly and easily.
  4. Make it easy for members to join and leave as they want.

I am agnostic with atheist leanings and think some of the major problems we have as a country are as a result of extremist religion so ideally I would rather have as little religion as possible in such a project. If anyone would be interested in getting something like this of the ground then please reply here or inbox me directly so we can start brainstorming and moving towards this.

Business question/advice/discussion Starting a business

Hey 👋 I don't know if im being silly or just ignorant, but im trying to understand whether there are p'ple who can entrust with capital funds and wait for the profits monthly or weekly.

Im a female, not older than 20. My I live in a small room and I pay 150k monthly. I had been working with my sister at her salon, but as she was instructed by her husband to stay a housewife, I dont have a job to do. Hence, I have bills to clear. My question is, are there people who can invest in my business, and I pay them monthly or weekly because I'm good in beauty and hair plaiting plus wig stallation .help or advice needed

Opinion/Discussion Banaye Ugandans who hack people, whats your issue?

So this year I was hacked and I lost my email and snapchat account. Luckily I have nothing private that I could be threatened with but losing that email and snapchat generally disorganized me. This same man who hacked me, who i dont know mind you. came back today after 3 months of silence, threatening to send videos of me smoking to my parents. I told him to send, after all I'm a 24 year old, my parents wont be as mad as if i was younger.

Banaye so thats it🤣 naye I'm still mad but it is well. I blocked the number and moved on with my day. But honestly what do you Ugandan hackers hope to achieve?

General Could someone explain savings groups to me?

I'm looking for a savings group because I've heard they help people out. I know there are different kinds. I've heard different names like SACCO and Nigina. Could anyone please break it down for me. How do you join? How much do you have to contribute? And how are the funds distributed? Why are they so popular in Uganda? And if you're in one, could you connect me to whoever admits people to join?

Thanks in advance

General Looking for people who enjoy reading and doing proofs type Mathematics

Hello,

Are there people here who get joy from reading and doing Mathematics? Preferrably at undergrad, or postrgraduate level.

We can create a community where we can share ideas, learn fron each other, discuss e.t.c, just like Bourbaki.

If anyone is interested, you can comment or DM me. We can get an appropriate way to communicate.

Thanks

Opinion/Discussion Drainage design

The thing about nature is you can’t get in her way.

This drainage was constructed close to the bottom of a hill along a road with a steep incline, at a corner.
You know how water behaves when it flows round a corner?

Look how narrow it is too
Imagine the volumes of water it receives regularly which accumulate from all the way up the hill, down this corner especially during the rainy season.

No wonder it was washed away

I guess the road is next. It has already started in fact. It’s a new road meanwhile, just done last year

What are these wires btw?
The cable companies are waiting for customers to cry and switch service providers before they do something about it

May God uphold us all

General What’s the cheapest Airbnb in Kampala?

I’m looking for the cheapest Airbnb or short-stay accommodation in Kampala. I’m on a tight budget, so I’d appreciate recommendations for affordable places that are clean, safe, and comfortable.
If you know any good options, please share:
💰 The price per night or per month
📍 The area where it’s located
🔗 A booking link or contact details, if available
🏠 Whether utilities and Wi-Fi are included
I’m open to studio apartments, private rooms, and budget-friendly self-contained units.
What’s the cheapest place you’ve personally stayed in or can recommend? Any genuine suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
