Any idea what are you going to do with the $15?

$15 won't get you far, but...
I N V E S T N N V V E E S S T TCards Against Humanity sent you this to fight wealth inequality, and investing it in securities (like stock ETFs or bonds) is a pretty good way to do that. I recommend hopping on over to r/Bogleheads if you're interested. It's not too hard if you don't want it to be.
On the other hand, unwinding and having a nice time can be a good investment in your health. So go ahead and see that movie if you want. I'm sure you deserve it.

If you're going to do that, make sure you know what you're doing. Just because a security/currency has been increasing in value does not mean that it will continue to do so; it's better to have some evidence supporting the expectation that it will keep rising.
Edit: I'm not implying that you haven't researched it; I'm addressing those who are reading your comment.

I wanna tell you a fun story of the exact moment I started to love the switch. I was balls deep into breath of the wild during a pretty crazy storm. I had it in the dock and was playing on my tv. The power shutoff. SHIT! THE LAST HOUR OF PROGRESS IS LOST! Nope, the moment the power went out, everything that was on the TV just went directly to the switch itself, allowing me to play video games while everyone else in my house could do nothing. It was such a great feeling.

Lol we got one of the cards that said our wealth was stolen and given to the poorest that signed up! I guess, in a way, you're welcome! Totes worth it, this little thing they're running has been great so far.

u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
Thank you!
I got two cards too. A black one that says "Oh shit, I just got ___________" And a white one that says "A full refund from Cards Against Humanity to fight wealth inequality"

u/youngloudandsnotty Dec 10 '17

Wait, but I'm curious how they determined who makes how much... Is it on the honor system?
EDIT: nevermind I just looked it up.9
u/shellyshithead Dec 11 '17
Wait can you please share with us how it works?
24
u/eyeplaywithdirt Dec 11 '17
Sure. The CAH people sent out a really long survey to the people who wanted to participate. The survey had a lot of "red herring" questions so no one was really sure what the point of the survey was. They used the answers to specific questions including career, debt, and medical info, along with people's location data to determine likelihood of them having a certain income. They threw out surveys of people they thought were lying or not taking it seriously based on some answers compared to previous answers and the time taken to complete. They also threw out minors and people from Canadia (sorry, my hat).

u/Commander5AM I have a step ladder, I never met my real ladder. Dec 10 '17
I fully intend to, if we have enough left over I'm going to see if I can get him some chocolates or something as well, maybe a nip toy for his kitty (it's a really cute kitty). I can limp down to his house and post it through his door.

u/princess_creampuff Dec 10 '17
You could've done the same for him as well! The gift wasn't only expensive, but probably meant a lot for this guy to be able to give a special gift to his mother. You did a good thing trudging through snow for a complete stranger.

He was very grateful, he said it was a custom made item and the courier company had marked it as lost as it was supposed to be delivered three weeks ago.
I would gladly do it for anyone in my area and have done so in the past, why should they suffer because some couriers can't be bothered to walk further than my house? Besides, it gets me out of the house for a little bit.

23
u/joelthezombie15 Dec 10 '17
Lol! Hey free $15 is better than nothing I suppose! At least your work is helpful! What're you gonna spend your money on?
I had my first session for my first tattoo. I was so worried going in but once I saw the design I was just blown away and super excited and ended up having s really great experience.
18
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
Well, I was kind of thinking about going to see a Matinee of Coco. It looks super good.
Cool! What's the design?
10
u/joelthezombie15 Dec 10 '17
That sounds good! Might even have enough for a drink depending on how expensive tickets are for your area. They're like $14 for me.
It's a bit hard to explain haha. Im getting a sleeve with the theme being mental health. It's in a style called trash polka which is chaotic and messy with splatters and streaks of red and smudges of black. I'd send a picture but I just have some outlines right now and it's super hard to tell what the hell it even is haha.
9
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
A matinee is about $7 here. I usually go to the grocery stone next door and grab a soda for $2, so that leaves me with $6. Good deal, I say. :)
6
u/joelthezombie15 Dec 10 '17
Very good deal! I should move to your city for prices like that! Last time I got into a movie for under $10 was when I was 12 or younger and got child prices!
8
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
Yikes! A regular ticket here is $9. We also have a cheap theater where a regular movie is $4.50 and a matinee is $2.50. If you want to come to a small city in the middle of no where Pennsylvania, you are welcome! My job is hiring. Maybe you'll get a free $15 during CAH's next promotion xD

Do you need experience or higher education for said job? If not then in down! Haha I need a job and I hate where I live.
11
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
If you start in residential care, no. You need a clean background check. Experience is a plus, but not a deal breaker. The program is for mentally ill adults living in group homes. A lot of our people have other things going on as well, like brain injuries, Autism, mild intellectual disabilities, poor family support and so on. So, having patience and being good with people is a must. It's a good job. I love my co-workers and I love my clients. I recently had a bit of a personal crisis and my bosses couldn't have been more understanding. I don't make a lot, but I think I am happier where I am than if I went to a similar agency that paid more, but cared less. Here's the website if you are interested. We've got loads of programs for a bunch of different needs as well. https://bellsocialization.com/

We have been looking for over a year for a better apartment, and anything which hit even two of our essential criteria (in our price range, good location, right size) would disappear off the site within hours or we wouldn't get a look in. We found this ad for one which not only hit all three of those, it also has pretty much all of the bonus criteria we were hoping for (has balcony, near nature, kitchen is to our taste, second toilet, has elevator, dedicated parking, allows pets!)
So we registered and somehow we didn't get immediately rejected. The company who manages it, adorably, because "and" in German is abbreviated to u, is called HUG. We went to visit it and walked out the back of the area to be greeted with this beautiful sunset across fields. We just loved it from the first moment. And we got accepted! We signed the contract last Friday :) So we have our "for the forseeable future" home.
2017 has been shitty to us with multiple injuries, money issues, infertility, weird neighbour troubles, cancer in the family, unexpected friend death, and a couple of exam failures too, so hopefully this (plus the all clear my father in law got the other day!) is a sign that our 2018 is being set up right.

I had several of those problems as well! Financial rock bottom where my husband and I had to move in with our respective parents(he got a job near his parents and they are allergic to our cats, so our daughter and myself are staying at my moms while he saves up for a new place), infertility, and weird neighbor crap(but thankfully we are rid of therm, now).
The infertility is expected, though. I have bad endometriosis and it took us three years to conceive our daughter. But I'm happy we have this chance to start over.
Congrats on the wonderful new place! Enjoy!

u/caffeine_lights ADHD is fun! Dec 11 '17
Thanks! It was extra frustrating for us as we had two miscarriages last year yet this year our theme seems to be not getting pregnant at all. My husband has a translocation of chromosomes, but luckily we also have an appointment in January to test and explain this some more. It's taken forever to get the appointment so it does feel like things might be moving forward at long last.

Same, I started in late August and spread all invest money into altcoins. I can't complain tho, most of them are kind of successful and pay off for other coin losses. But still, I didn't get enough profit to walk away totally without loss. Strange, how I thought that Bitcoin being a couple of thousand dollars seemed so much at the time.

Because there’s no reasonable explanation for its price, then or now? No one can value it so any price is reasonable or unreasonable at the same time.

Sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I really do love my job. I work with a small group of clients living with severe mental illness. My job as their caseworker is basically to teach them life skills and help them navigate life back in the community (most of my clients lived in the state hospitals until they closed). I get to see their small victories and then the not so good things as well. But I don't think I could see myself doing anything else. Just learn to budget your money and you'll be okay.

A baby rainbow Lorikeet was brought into the vet my friend works at. It's so young that it can't fly, so we're hosting it until it's grown all its feathers and can take care of herself.
She's super sweet. Hasn't bit anyone, and looooves Mango, so I designed and 3d printed a little fork to spike the mango onto.
She's not great at climbing yet, and we bought her a huge cage, which she kept falling to the bottom of D: so I sewed up a baby birdy safety net to break her fall.
She's my favourite little rainbow poop machine.

That sounds great they sent you $15! Mind if I ask about your job in social work? I'm still an undergrad but unsure if I want to be a high school guidance counselor or a social worker. I really want to have a career where I'm able to help people especially on a one-on-one setting.
What type of social work field you're doing, your education (degrees), and how you're liking your job so far?
6
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
I actually do not have a degree in social work. My degree is in something unrelated. I started out working in the group homes and then worked my way up. I am a caseworker now. I work with adults who have severe mental illness. My job is basically to help my clients with life skills so they are able to transition into living in the community. I help with everything from how to use a can opener to how to track your period to how to apply for a job. I personally love my job. I think my company is a huge part of that, though. I am able to have a relatively small case load (11 currently) and my company is very understanding and supportive. Good luck with whatever you choose. Both will make a difference.

Cool and unexpected...you could say that. Got a message from the landlord on Friday night that there might be a gas leak in our building and that they're turning off the gas. They didn't turn it back on until 1 am today (Sunday morning). We live in Chicago, so it got pretty cold (near 40F) in the apartment. Can't complain, though, the gas company employees were incredibly hardworking and friendly, and the situation could've ended badly had it not been caught!

That said, social workers are some of the most compassionate and dedicated servant leaders I've met, and sadly some of the most underpaid for the difficulties that come with the work. So thank 'you' for helping others and doing that work. And that you have a good outlet for taking care of your own health. I'm out, back to my bowl and art!

They only sent me a card saying that I got my money stolen by CAH and redistributed to those that needed it. Picture for reference
So that was pretty cool. Other than that.. I played the Monster Hunter World Beta this weekend. How's everything else going for you?

I actually can contribute to this! Got a message from my uncle this past week saying he'd pay for my badge to attend San Diego Comic Con this summer. He's a graphic artist and attends all the time, even doing panels from time to time. I'm in Indiana and have never been on the West Coast before but if I keep to my savings plan I'll have more than enough to fly out there. I'm nervous but really excited to hopefully attend!

Remembered I had a few dollars in bitcoin. Might’ve been less than $5. It’s now at $78. Don’t know what to do with it. Will probably sell it, once I figure out how.

I ordered a super mario sunshine poster off ebay, but it was actually a page from nintendo power :^( It came in really good condition though, so maybe I'll just get a frame for it.

I also contributed but was not in the 10,000 poorest. Let's pretend that my money was redistributed to you lol.

I started working at Target in the toys and electronics departments about 5 weeks ago. People are starting to get more and more awful the closer we get to Christmas, because they want stuff and they want it now. I had a really bad day 2 days ago, we were swamped, and I was overwhelmed by all these demanding, impatient people. I had A LOT of rude customers, but I got called a bitch for the first time by one of them, and it made me cry because I didn't feel like I did anything wrong. In fact, I went out of my way to serve her. I knew it was bound to happen at some point, but it still stung. A few hours and a dozen more awful people later, I'm driving home, feeling drained and in a bad mood. I'm the only one out on the road at that time of night, I stop at a red light, and while I'm waiting, I see my first shooting star. It was completely unexpected, and it immediately put a huge smile on my face. I was so excited, when I got home and my folks asked how my day was, I told them about what I had seen, and forgot to even mention the lady, (or any of the others for that matter).
TL, DR: I had a shitty day working retail, and actually cried about it. Saw my first shooting star, and it made me feel %100 better.

Not yet, but I'm watching an early screening of Star Wars on Wednesday night. I'm on the other side of the world where it's already Monday morning so it's just 2.5 days away. Getting real hyped now

Had two old friends hit me up in the past couple of weeks. One was visiting my city and wanted to hang out (we did, it was awesome) and one told me he is thinking about coming back to the sports club where we met. I'm hyped to see him again. Hadn't seen either of them in over 2 years.

I used to be a social worker. Went back to school and now I'm doing computer shit.
I consider the social work years to be penance for any sins I may commit throughout my life.

I now officially have a Samsung Gear S3 and have found myself wondering if I am a wanker or not.
3
u/Neville1989 Dec 10 '17
I don't think you're a wanker for having a Samsung Gear S3, however you may be a wanker for other reasons. I don't know. I don't know your life. I don't know what you do in your free time. :P

Not to rain on your parade, but just some simple math:
150,000 people gave $15 = $2,500,000 million
They refunded $15 for 10k people = $150,000
They gave 1000 people 1000 dollars = $1,000,000
Sent 3 letters and gave everyone some cards ~2 person
150k x $2 person (probably high) = 300,000
2.5 million - expenses (150k + 1 mil +300k) = $650,000
All the people who say CAH is for humanity, nope. They're for profit. $650k profit on free advertising.

We got snow in England which is unusual for this time of year, so I made a snowman. Good times.
