Neat This is all about you.
I want to explore and learn about your funky self reading this. I want to figure out why you always put the PB on before you do the jelly. I would love to hear your thoughts on Kanye. Or you can give your theory on why Denzel would have been better in the movie Castaway.
We both might learn something as we go down the unpaved pathways of your mind and emotions. That would just be super neat actually. Of course if you aren't comfortable with any question or statement I won't push on it :) and if you rather not talk openly that is fine. I can PM too.
Don't feel any obligation to ask about me. The less me the better with this. Unless you want to flip the script on this post.
Respond with what ever you want and lets do this thing. I promise as much attention as I can give to your every word.
Thanks for reading. š»

Random thought. I worry that I am boring on here. I go on about the thing I am interested in. I love Women's Wrestling from Japan. I mean I think about it more than anything else. It's kinda like being religious. You have this intense love and passion for a thing and you want everyone to see what you see. I just..............feel very passionate about it. Anyway.........
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Haha that is totally a legit worry to have but I think once you uncover it more and more it will melt away. Unfortunately, we can't woo every person in the world with our greatest passions. There are people who will be interested in what you have to say and others that will lose out on a learning opportunity.
I would love to learn about Women's Wrestling in Japan. Is it in the vein of like WWE or are we talking olympic style?
2
Jun 08 '18
I am up to my eyes in it. Seriously. It's like a mix of everything. There is a fair amount of WWE style theatrics, MMA submission stuff and just plain old brawls like proper fights. They are actively encouraged to get passionate during the matches. I ALWAYS get the impression that they are there to win. There is no second place.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Hahaha that is awesome. Why this though? I mean there are so many different things to get into within this realm. You picked this though and I want to understand that.

Jun 08 '18
I grew up in a predominantly female household, I don't have any brothers so I am fully aware of what Women are capable of in competition. I was watching WWE at the time and it was presenting as purely sex objects which bothered me. They tried pushing a few women to be fair but I never bought into them. I didn't believe in them. I started following a smaller company called Shimmer. All women and I was happy for a while but I began to notice an interesting trend. All of the women in the company that I cared were Asian. More specifically Japanese. I had always heard whispers about how good their Women's scene was and still is. So I did some research. Found a documentary about the Women's scene in Japan, watched it and it blew my mind. I furiously began googling every name in the documentary and was instantly hooked. I fell HARD down the Joshi (that's the informal term for women's wrestling in Japan) rabbit hole. That was 4 years ago. I signed up for anyone company that an online presence immediately. No woman in WWE is presented as cool or dangerous. Japan is different. Everyone has a thing that makes them stand from the others. They are cool or scary or funny. They have a fucking personality. Sorry for swearing.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Hahaha you can swear as much as you want my friend.
I am starting to form a picture about it but I still don't get why this exactly. What do you love about Joshi? What about watching it excites you or makes you happy?
2
Jun 08 '18
This is going to be a big rambling answer and I apologise in advance. Firstly like I said it's really cool people with actual toughness. The matches are long which gives people time to pull off cool looking stuff they have worked on in the dojo. More than that in Joshi they don't rehearse everything constantly. They work on grappling and submissions and such just to ensure no one breaks anything. They also do shitloads of cardio because Josh is ridiculously fast. They make most of it up in the ring. If they do a move that wasn't planned but the audience responds, they remember and do it again later in the match but also make a mental note that they can do the same thing in other match because the audience liked it. Also the companies are very small so everybody has wrestled everyone countless times so they are comfortable with each other and are willing to push each other further than somewhere like WWE would ever let them go. Like crazy shit.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Please ramble! Rambling is what I am aiming for. Pelt this post with as many words as you can.
So the level of showmanship is higher? They have a better finger on the pulse of things?
1
Jun 08 '18 edited Jun 08 '18
I wouldn't exactly say showmanship is a thing. Not in the accepted sense. They wave when someone says their name and if someone yells something they respond appropriately. If they are a good guy they smile or do something funny if they are a bad guy they will tell them to fuck off or start an argument. They have a back and forth. Most of the time they end up in the crowd at some point during the match. They know that the crowd expects certain things depending on their character and they also remember how their character interacts with other characters. Do they cheat or are they honourable? Are they a coward or a violent psychopath? Do they like the person they are currently in the ring with or want them dead? It all informs their next move during the match.

Hey there! I'm a 20 year old female on the east coast of the US. I've currently got family from California visiting for the week! I'm at my internship right now, working full time while I'm off of school. I study electrical and computer engineering at a medium sized public state school. I'm the oldest of 3 kids. I'm working hard to improve myself this summer, saving money, taking time to start running, focusing on my mental health. So far I'm doing good! I love chit chat and admittedly enjoy talking about myself, so I couldn't resist to join this little thread :)
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Hahaha who doesn't love talking about themselves?
Sounds like you are really doing well right now :) what kicked off this healthy living stuffs for you?
2
Jun 08 '18
I went through a break up a few months ago, started going to therapy and taking medication, and came to the realization that I'm at a perfect age to turn my life around. I can either let my mental illness control me or I can control it. It's easier to start developing healthy habits now while I'm young than it will be if I wait to start being healthy.
2
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Super congrats! It took me too long to go and see somebody for help with my mental stuff. I am for real so happy for you :)
What healthy habits have you picked up that you enjoy the most?
2
Jun 08 '18
I love that I'm waking up early and getting to work early in the morning. I feel more productive waking up early, getting stuff done, and getting home while the sun's still out. I also have really started to enjoy running. I jogged for 30 min straight the other day and it felt great after never having been able to do that before. I make dinner some days in the week and I love having a fresh cooked meal after I run. I also enjoy my skincare routine that I've gotten back into. My skin is at its best its been since I was 8 years old. Everything is helping with my self confidence and self image, and I'm enjoying being alive.

super happy high five
You are making me want to work out right now! What are some of your favorite work outs?
How has all this work shifted your perspective on things?
2
Jun 08 '18
super happy high five in return
My favorite thing is just getting up and running. I run for as long as I can and see how long before I get tired. The farthest I've gone is 2.5 miles, but I find running gets easier after the first mile. The first mile is always the hardest. After I build up my endurance, I'm going to start with some interval training (30 second sprint, 60 second walk, repeat) to work on my speed. I'm pretty slow right now haha
I love stretching too. I've been wanting to get into yoga and find some good yoga instructors on youtube to watch but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I feel like my perspective is more positive. I feel more capable of doing things now. I used to feel lazy and useless, and feel like a pieces of shit and lay in bed all day and sleep as much as possible because I couldn't bring myself to do anything else. But now I come home and think "what is there to do for me around the house?" and I'll do laundry or empty the dishwasher instead of going to bed. I see life less like a struggle and more of a challenge, and I like a good challenge. So I run even though it's difficult because I want to see what I'm capable of. I'm more productive and get things done even if I'm tired because I feel better pulling through and getting things done. Everyday I get out of bed, that's a win. I'm focusing on the successes.
2
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Have you set up any goals yet with your running? Any marathons in your future?
https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene I go to her for different things. Yoga is so great.
Fuck yeah! What other successes have you had? Brag as hard as you can. Impress the shit out of me please hahaha
2
Jun 08 '18
I hope to run a 5k with a decent time by the end of the summer! Then hopefully a half marathon is in my future :)
Omg thank you! I really appreciate it! I'll have to check her out after work today.
Hmm successes... I've stuck with my skincare routine for a month straight and I've only got 3 active pimple on my face compared to the dozens I had before hahaha. Running 30 min straight was a HUGE success for me. This internship I have I got on my own accord and I'm getting paid $20/hr and saving as much as I can, and it feels great seeing my balance go up. Yesterday at work I wrote a piece of code that worked and that felt awesome. I got ready for work in less than 30 minutes this morning! I redecorated my bedroom recently and I love the way it looks. I've got a few romantic pursuers right now, which has never really happened to me before and I can't help but feel like hot shit haha! (I'm enjoying the single life for now though.) Overall, it's little things but it feels great being productive :)
2
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
I would say good luck but I don't think you need it.
There is a lot to check out! I hope you enjoy it.
Hahahaha my favorite one of those is that it took you less than 30 minutes to get ready. Why did that one stand out to you?
Also romantic pursuers sounds way classier than some dudes that want to go out. So bonus points.

"Why you always put the PB on before you do the jelly"
I have no system for this, but I actually prefer honey or Nutella to go with my peanut butter as opposed to jelly. I've never liked it, not even as a kid.
I don't really have any clue what I should say about myself, so if you want to put forth some specific questions, I'll pick out which ones I want to answer.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Well you already answered the most important question. Sandwich preferences really all we need to know about each other to understand them.
Hmm what are some of your personal 'truths'? I mean that what do you choose to believe in. It could be that the earth is flat, there is one too many Shaggy's in pop culture, or that just because you boil it oil doesn't make it food.
What do you like to do with your time? And conversely what do you do with your time that you wish you wouldn't have to do?
2
u/Typical_Humanoid Atypical Everything Else Jun 08 '18
In that case, I'm more of a "turkey on rye" type than a "ham on white" type, heheh.
Personal truths? Well, I'm an atheist, so I believe that my job is to make the most of life on this planet until I don't have that chance anymore, and that includes improving the lives of people I care about, and doing what I can to make anybody I encounter feel a little better.
I'm an optimist who has a "life is what you make of it" attitude by nature but I'm also realistic, so I know that it isn't that simple for many people, and not everybody is in a position to be able to follow that mantra.
One of my guiding principles is that art is incredibly important so I try to consume as much of it as I can. It tells you about the inner desires and beliefs of those who create it, in a way that you simply aren't exposed to when talking to people face-to-face, when they have their masks on. Even online, we have a tendency to present a version of ourselves that we want to be. I think art is a little more honest.
So that answers what I do with my time. I read a lot and watch a lot of movies and TV, pretty obsessively. That's my life, although I also have an interest in learning about history, knitting and taking care of my dog. Plus other little things that suit whatever whim I have at the time.
The things I wish I had to do less are the things that adults are obligated to do. Figuring out what I want to do with my life has proved especially bothersome to someone as indecisive as myself.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Hahahaha my god. I wish I knew what you meant in the subtext of that.
What do you mean when you say not everybody is a position to follow that mantra?
So how are you being dishonest with me right now?
What do you like to read and watch?
Do you think you have ONE thing to do with your life?
2
u/Typical_Humanoid Atypical Everything Else Jun 08 '18
I meant that life has beaten some people down enough that they havenāt the energy to be the type of person they wish to be, or live the life they want to live. Mental health and financial situations are also factors in not being able to necessarily have that outlook.
What I was dishonest about wasnāt so much what I told you, that was all correct, but more in what I omitted, which is just as important and telling. I didnāt tell you about my failures, regrets or the parts of myself I dislike and am not proud of, and things that are otherwise too personal but are not negative.
In terms or reading I love the classics and anything sci-fi related, as thatās my favorite genre. Iāll watch anything thatās not sports related or too gory, since Iām squeamish.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Interesting :) total side note that I have to get out but I am fucking brimming with so much energy right now.
So! Those are challenges right? We can't all be born rich and with the proper teaching of mental health. Shouldn't we not allow those things to hold us back in a negative thinking but keep that positive outlook and see them as lessons and things to build strength?
Why shouldn't we share our shortcomings and possibly negative things? Or bad experiences we have had?
Why are you attracted to the classics? And why no sports?
2
u/Typical_Humanoid Atypical Everything Else Jun 08 '18
I donāt think itās about being rich, but about being just financially secure enough to do what you want to reasonably often. If youāre poor, ālife is what you make of itā seems like something of a cruel joke. Itās not impossible to be positive in that case, but itās entirely understandable when people arenāt.
With mental health itās even trickier because some people are literally incapable of looking at life in a positive manner without help, and we live in a society that encourages independence to a detrimental degree and therefore shames us for seeking the help required to make necessary changes and make a pathway for growth.
I donāt think itās that we shouldnāt share those things, on the contrary, but many people are simply unwilling to do so, myself included. Iāve always admired total honesty in this regard. Some people are truly open books. My sister is like that. Sheās comfortable with telling her whole lifeās story at times, which stands in stark contrast to me.
Lastly, the reason I gravitate toward classic novels is because those are the ones that have endured, and you get a glimpse into how life was back then and how the brilliant minds of the day thought it should be. I like a little bit of a challenge as far as prose goes as well. Modern fiction can be a bit too easy to read.
And sports bore me to tears. Itās as simple as that, lol.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
I like you. That is some well thought out thoughts and I can always get down to more of that.
Why are you unwilling to be open?
What parts or ideas from the classics do you think are lost in today's world that shouldn't be?
Hahaha I will try my best to not take that personally. You have zero interest in competition?
2
u/Typical_Humanoid Atypical Everything Else Jun 08 '18
D'aw shucks, thanks lol. I do think about a lot of random things, but there will always be someone who has put more thought into these topics than I have.
That unwillingness isn't absolute, since I'm being rather open about what we're discussing. But everybody has a limit after all.
You won't take it personally? Oh no, have I gone and run off my mouth about my anti sports bias in front of an athelete/fan? :O
I do think being active has value, for instance I enjoy swimming when I get the chance. I even played basketball and softball for a few years, even though I sucked. But to me, watching other people engage in sports is highly dull.
It's interesting you bring up competition. I'm not competitive generally and I don't get a thrill out of seeing others be. The exception is certain board games, aka, "sports for nerds." Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit turn me into a monster.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Haha so you don't consider yourself a "specialized" random thinker?
Why do you think we all have these different levels of limits on our openness?
Hahaha I am those things. In a very big way.
So what is it about those two things that are different from other things? To you that is of course.

Yo, I just adopted a feral kitten. I never realized having a pet is so much work yet so rewarding. I love that she loves to sleep on me whenever Iām around, and it makes me really happy to see her waiting for me when I come home from work
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
How old is she? One of my cats were feral and the other premature AF and I totally understand what you are saying about the bond. It is totally different.
2
u/Its-cheesus Jun 08 '18
Sheās about 7 weeks old now. I found her in a bush behind my house, I think the neighborhood kids threw her in there and the Mom wasnāt around so Iād had felt really guilty if I didnāt take her in. It took a lot of convincing my parents but they agreed anyway :D my dad acted like he didnāt care at first but he even made her a toy and let her sit with him when Iām not around lol
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Aww that is too cute. Is this your first pet?
2
u/Its-cheesus Jun 08 '18
This is the first pet I can actually interact with. Iāve had a lot of fish before but those get really boring when all you can do is look at them. Do you cats get a long with each other well?
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
They get along super well together!
So what do you like most about your new intractable pet? :)
2
u/kawaii_bbc None Jun 08 '18
I'm not good with general, broad topics, like this one, but if you have any specific questions, I'd be more than happy to put an answer on it.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Thanks for the direction :)
What do you mean by specific questions? I don't want to try and lead a conversation you don't want :) so if you can help me with that it will help us both enjoy this more.
2
u/kawaii_bbc None Jun 08 '18
lol that's just part of who I am; it can be anything you want, really.
I've just never been good with general "about me"s.
Even in class they'd be like tell me something about yourself and I'd just say my name and that I enrolled in this class, lmao
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Haha so if I asked you to describe maybe how a friend views you that would be easier to answer than asking you to describe yourself?
2
u/kawaii_bbc None Jun 08 '18
Probably not; lol Anxiety would have me describe that as they probably all secretly hate me behind my back, haha
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Haha alright I think I am getting a lock on things.
So lets say we talk and I ask you a bunch of random things. Would you be more scared I truly understood you or would you be happier if I didn't quite get you?
2
u/kawaii_bbc None Jun 08 '18
I'm fine with however your brain determines to process me, lol.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Haha so why the anxiety on describing yourself? I mean if you aren't scared of how I view you whats the fear in it?
2
u/kawaii_bbc None Jun 08 '18
There isn't any. I'm just not good at it. You'd just get random info like I'm 5'5 have a receding hairline rather than get something you may consider to be more interesting.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
So your filter is at least partially made up of things you think I would find interesting? I mean that makes total sense but you don't need to :) I just want to know you.
Have you ever tried practicing describing yourself? Or given much thought to your self image?

1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Oh that is something I know pretty much nothing about! So what got you into it first?
2
u/blessedbetheslacker Jun 08 '18
A cable channel that airs Asian movies with English subtitles. I've watched a lot of other foreign films - Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, etc. - but it turns out Japanese ones are what I enjoy the most. Later, I started actually learning the Japanese language, and it's really helped me appreciate the films and shows they make a whole lot more.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
What is the difference between Japanese films and the rest?
2
u/blessedbetheslacker Jun 08 '18
Most of it is probably their culture. To me, though, there's just something about how they can somehow make even the most mundane jobs or situations seem so meaningful, just in the way they portray it, or how the stories are told... can't really put my finger on it. Also, I've always loved anime and manga when I was growing up, so getting into live-action movies and shows felt like a continuation of that particular interest.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Ahh, now that sounds like something I can get into. Can you give any examples on how their culture makes it a more positive experience for you?
And how is their live action movies a continuation of how they do anime and manga?
2
u/blessedbetheslacker Jun 08 '18
Man, that's a tough question. In a general sense, there's a lot of sentiments that they have concerning work, family, and just life overall that really resonate with me.
With work, for example, it's amazing how many seemingly boring jobs they can make intriguing stories out of, like proofreading, dictionary writing, movers for dead people, even making lingerie (and managing not to emphasize the sexual side of it). To me, it shows how they're able to portray a person's job as a means of expressing themselves; not necessarily something to identify yourself with entirely, but a worthwhile pursuit nonetheless.
As for family, I can point to one of my favorite Japanese movies, Natsumi's Firefly. One of the characters is a father estranged from his son, and at one point he talks about wishing to meet him again just to express his gratitude for being his parent. I doubt that's actually something most Japanese people actually think about, but it's still very memorable to me regardless.
I admit that anime and manga allow artists and authors more room for their imaginations to roam, but watching Japanese films and shows have really shown me that the constraints of whatever medium they tell stories with don't affect their creativity one bit.
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Why do you think a foreign philosophy on things resonates more with you? Did you already have some of those ideals or did you pick them up as you noticed them in the films?
That is an interesting thing! So how for example is creativity constrained here in the US?
1
u/blessedbetheslacker Jun 08 '18
It's a bit more like a new and unique perspective on things that I probably never would have considered if I hadn't been exposed to those films and shows.
Honestly, I can't really describe the difference in creativity between Japanese works and Western ones all that well. I think it boils down to how differently they approach certain stories, and the themes they choose to focus on. An example would be one of the films I made a TV Tropes page for above, My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday. To oversimplify, the story is about a romance between two people moving through time in opposite directions. (Watching the movie's the only way to really make sense of this description.) If this were an American film, I think it would have focused more on the intellectual aspect of it. Instead, the movie is more focused on the interactions between the two characters, how this bizarre situation affects their relationship, and the significance of their role in each other's lives. It never deals with how this strange circumstance came about, why it only occurs between the two of them, etc. And yet watching the film doesn't leave you questioning those things, and instead immerses you in the emotions they have as they live their lives in light of that peculiarity.

u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Ohh, easy to please I see ;)
So what do you think about this statement: That's the way we have always done it.
2
Jun 08 '18
Sounds like a statement that can be looked at in two ways:
Positively - I.e. the person or group of people likes to follow tradition with the way they do things and that's awesome.
Negatively - I.e. this sounds like a very close minded approach to potentially learning a new skill or simplifying a regular task in life. I'm not sure that it's a great idea to be ignorant of the other ways in which you complete a task. It's good to have options :)
1
u/HeritageHarks is here for you! Jun 08 '18
Why is following a tradition awesome?
Also bonus points for attacking both sides of it. That will be reflected in my notes.
2
Jun 08 '18
It's great to have traditions! All of our holidays, sunday dinners with the family, certain rituals for christmas (going certain places every year on christmas eve, for example). It's just a way of making things feel special and adding more meaning to what can be viewed as a retail-based holiday.

Why would you want to fight about it? Why can't we just discuss it and we can both learn about and from each other?

The "fight me" was intended only for the hardcore fanboys, not you. Lel

PB before jelly because you can scrape all of the PB off on the side of the jar and use the clean knife to get the jelly out without tainting the rest of the jar of jelly! Also, my preferred PB&Js have about a 1:1.5 ratio of PB to jelly. Smooth peanut butter - always. And strawberry preserves so there's small chunks of the good stuff!

Woah, that is concise as fuck. There is no way you haven't written this all down before... Or at least had a conversation about PB&Js for like seven minutes and 38 seconds.

Can't say I've ever communicated my PB&J habits before (written or verbal)! Hahaha.

How did you have such an almost strict way of going about it? Like have you just had a process about it? I usually just do it.

I suppose it's kind of a process. I'm naturally analytical/scientific/logical so it only makes sense (to me) to get PB before jelly.
I didn't realize this was weird, hahaha. I wonder what else I do on a daily basis that's similar.

Haha well considering its internal I would guess a lot?
And it isn't "weird" at all. There are plenty of people out there that would think my nonchalant sandwich making would be weird and you are in the right.
That makes me wonder though. What do you do that you would consider possibly weird?

Oh wow. I have no idea - hard to identify my "normal" as weird. I suppose the first thing that comes to my mind is my odd tendency to go through great lengths to lock my car.
I also have a "routine" when I get gas. Lock when I get out to pump, go sit in car, lock while I'm in it, get out to remove nozzle, lock car, then get back in and drive away. I don't even keep anything of value in my car, hahaha.
I also lock my car while it's in the garage.
This one may not be weird, as I've heard many others do it, but all volumes (TV, car, etc) must be set to an even number or divisible by five.

Hahaha okay not bad. You aren't making weird lamps from dead racoons.
Is there any things that are "normal" that you just don't understand or get why they are considered "normal'?
2
u/whateverforever_x Ramble on. Jun 08 '18
Oh, definitely not. I love raccoons. (:
I would say no. There's things such as sexism, racism, etc - but I can likely justify/understand why people are the way they are and I wouldn't necessarily say those things are "normal." But perhaps they are.

Love is quite the strong word. Mind backing that up?
And that is quite the rabbit hole we could go down. I was thinking like watching Keeping Up the Kardashians.

19 year old Australian, living and working in China.
I expected this to last six months. I've signed on for the rest of the year, it's just been so wonderful, and I've met so many awesome people and my now-girlfriend.
My life turned around so quickly since my final year of high school and it's simply wonderful.
