Streams:

bilibili, Hidive and Netflix, subs and dubs.

Questions for the day:

1) How strong the participating adventurer parties are?

2) Why do we need this weirdo for the dungeon exploration?

3) Do Amanda's power level worthy for a legendary A-rank adventurer?

4) Can you see this as a training episode?

Highlights from yesterday:

1) Water spirit, slime or Greater Spirit, the best answer is a certain overpowered entity:

Sasuga Rimiru-sama! Man, I need to watch the new episode sometime today, but having fun with Fran instead. But yeah, if Truck-kun comes for me, I wouldn't mind a trip to Rimiru's world ... provided I can join the gang, of course...

I watch too much Rimaru, SLIME IT IS

2) u/epicfail1994 dexcribes the GMs alleged favoritism towards Fran:

Also looks like the guild thinks the GM went to Epsteins Island now

First time watcher

I love how Fran knows that loudmouth isn´t worth her time, but the moment he insulted Shishou is time to throw hands.

Hopefuly that duel with Amanda will show everyone that Fran is the real deal.

Questions for the day:

  1. We didn´t see everyone but that bum that Fran beat the shit out of wasn´t a good show of strength for all other groups if they are similar in power as their ranks suggest.

  2. We needed a punching bag for Fran to show of, and look at that face, he has the perfect smug look for the job.

  3. Yes, finally someone who can stand up to our main duo.

  4. More like the stepping stone episode to realize she has already trained enough to be far superior to your tipicall adventurer and to set the next goal that whould be A rank power level.

3

look at that face, he has the perfect smug look for the job.

He had it coming

stepping stone

It does rather have that feel to it, doesn't it?

Those who weaker than her are not worth to be bothered. It is very easy.

Or that Blue Cat from before.

I think your gif links may have some issues, but definitely

I think it might be because they use the link to the webpage and not straight to the gif.

Like this.

Or this.

Yeah, that would explain why it works when I link to that site. Hmm...

First-time Student, finally back (or rather I was back but had to catch up on the pile of episodes I was behind)

Shishou killstealing...

Fran really is just interested in the kill fights, huh?

Having a B-rank threat be considered kingdom-level does give an idea as to how much Donadrond is worth.

I didn't expect the arm chop. At least that's easily fixed! But why don't they just target the mage? He's a free target and the important one.

Oh, they remembered the part about the Dungeon Master. Faiyabolto!

Oh I just realized Thunderbolt is Voltekka! Tekkaman Demon...he is not.

Bold move to try and flaunt your healing item in front of someone who can just cut it off.

Donadrond becoming Adventurer Dad.

With the arms flapping around Shishou, he makes me think of Aegislash.

Oh look, they found an annoying old man to use Skill Taker on.

Got double skills, huh? Noble Etiquette is gonna be useful in the future.

Three styles of Fran.

On the other hand, not having Noble Etiquette is clearly an issue when you're in noble society.

Ooh, girl with whip!

Really playing to the episode title, huh?

Wow, his head went flying!

Super Creek spotted. Oh, I get it, this is...August (Amanda)? The Protector of Children.

Not the toast in mouth.

I assume Amanda is either training/testing Fran for some reason.

Putting a bet on now that Fran will have to save Mr. Rank E whose name I've already forgotten.

Ara~

Well there goes the 24h cooldown. I assume that's going to be relevant in about 2 episodes.

Welp, Fran's been Creek'ed.

QotD:

  1. So we've got one C in there, and a lot of E. E was supposed to be reasonably capable of handling Goblin Stampede-level, so they should be kinda okay but not really great.

  2. We have to have the mandatory fodder characters. Actually, we don't really have a good idea on how good D is supposed to be.

  3. Part of it is clearly Amanda is taking it easy the whole time, so it's actually kinda hard to tell. She has the confidence to take a high level fire spell to the face without caring, along with strong base numbers and skills.

  4. Well, training generally involves improvement vs just testing your skills, so probably not for me.

Uh, goo-goo mode engaged? :P

We have to have the mandatory fodder characters.

aka Comic Relief

All for the sake of evolution.

Oh look, they found an annoying old man to use Skill Taker on.

A tool made for humiliation.

Putting a bet on now that Fran will have to save Mr. Rank E whose name I've already forgotten.

Maybe there is no need to remember that name.

rewatcher, subs

Alternative title: Duels - The Episode!

Considering we had the Nepo Baby incident a few episodes ago, it's not too unbelievable as for why are the adventurers suspicious of Fran's rank speedrun. Now, there are definitely better ways to deal with such situation, mainly like doing nothing... it's not like there are any limits on how many people can be each rank. Or you can be a hot headed spearman and you can get smacked to sleep by a sword's side.

The Amanda fight was awesome. We were finally able to see what a Spellsword class can truly do. Using split mind to cast movement spells to get into sword range, mostly as a distraction, while casting the true lethal spell. Incredibly impressive show of skill. Amanda was no lightweight either, by any means. The course-changing whip is a terrifying weapon of choice.

And following the spearman's faux pass at the beginning, Amanda was understanding enough to not force Fran any further, because Fran still carries the memory of her mother in her heart. A nice touch to end the squabble on.

QOTD:

How strong the participating adventurer parties are?

Two E rank parties getting promoted to D rank, one C rank party, one solo D rank and one solo A rank. Np for the reminder.

Why do we need this weirdo for the dungeon exploration?

That's just how life goes. It would be like asking why are your coworkers irl ass.

Do Amanda's power level worthy for a legendary A-rank adventurer?

Well she defeated our fierce heroine. It would be an insult if she were any weaker!

Can you see this as a training episode?

Bonding by clashing weapons.

Not the most interesting lineup, eh?

Indeed. Very natural thing.

The last few episodes kind of represent why I got into this series enough to actually dig into the web novels. I'm into the Teacher/Fran dynamic in general but what I also like that the writer is invested in the skill sets of his heroes and enemies. A lot of the abilities are clearly trope inspired but there's usually evidence of an extended thought process around how the character came to possess their ability set and how the abilities work together.

A simple example would be the pocket dimension. Most litRPG settings have inventory but not very many go through the extra steps of establishing that time doesn't pass for things in the inventory and use that as a springboard to come up with meal prep. Or to use it to drain a swamp to hunt fish monsters. Or to have the anime get in on creative use with the unsheathe at the start of the blue cat fight.

So in today's episode we have Amanda playing around. Whips aren't unheard of in these settings but are fairly unusual and it's combined with wind casting which is also somewhat less common. There's a pretty obvious reason: whips are ranged and the wind helps with zoning. She has a set of prepared plans for a swordman approaching her obvious weakness. So there's a thought process behind the character design and her mistake is not expecting a high level instant cast immediately following a sword art from a newbie which is also reasonable.

So the author likes gaming/fantasy tropes but I appreciate that he puts in the extra effort in his setups.

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 21d ago

I appreciate that he puts in the extra effort in his setups.

Yes, the extra effort shows, and makes it interesting that Fran/Shishou's skills aren't just deus-ex-asspulica, but build on things that have already been demonstrated, in new and interesting ways.

Fun stuff. :)

The complex and detailed the system and worldbuilding, the better got it.

Rewatcher, subbed

Of course someone would have an issue with Fran being promoted to D-Rank. But this guy was straight up comical in how much it bothered him and how confrontational he was about it. It was fun to see Fran put him in his place.

The real highlight though was the sparring fight between Fran and Amanda. Fran still has a long way to go because Amanda was just toying with her. Finally we got to see Amanda's competent side and not just her being a comic relief with how much she's doting on Fran.

QotD:

How strong the participating adventurer parties are?

Amanda aside I haven't been too impressed yet. Let's see how they fare inside the dungeon.

Why do we need this weirdo for the dungeon exploration?

Right? They should have cut him lose the moment he starting picking a fight with Fran.

Do Amanda's power level worthy for a legendary A-rank adventurer?

Very much lol. Makes you wonder about people out there possibly even stronger than her.

Can you see this as a training episode?

Eh. More like gauging eachother's strength. Asshole was to week and Amanda too strong for any meaningful training.

Here, let me fix that up for you a bit:

And to answer those questions - yes, of course I am!

Absolutely!

Well now I hope Fran isn't going to fight any emperors in an arena.

  1. How strong the participating adventurer parties are?

Varying strengths but I believe some are similar to Fran's rank and some are well above in rank? I wonder how cohesive the party will be going into the dungeon.

  1. Why do we need this weirdo for the dungeon exploration?

It takes all sorts... sigh. He certainly is abrasive and has an inflated ego. But hopefully his dragon skill will be useful once they actually enter the dungeon?

  1. Do Amanda's power level worthy for a legendary A-rank adventurer?

She sure has some skills! That mana manipulation of her whip coupled with her experience and 'old-hat' level of confidence is a tough combo to beat. Not to mention the protection of the spirits/spell damage nullification makes her almost untouchable.

I'm sure it was a thrill for Amanda to have a worthy opponent like Fran. I'm glad Amanda seems to be sincere as an ally, doesn't actually push the teasing further in the end, and gives Fran a new person who she can grow to trust and confide in. It seems like Fran's found family is growing little by little and love that for her.

  1. Can you see this as a training episode?

On a meta level this feels like a quest in a game that tests your skill to make sure you're ready for an upcoming boss fight. I have a feeling the dungeon won't be as easy as the last one.

In-universe it's a skills test and demonstration of fighting ability. For Fran it's about defending Shishou's honour, and later an attempt to get Amanda to stop harassing her. For Amanda she gets to gauge Fran's skill while having fun, with the bonus result of gaining a little bit of Fran's trust in the end. Nawww 🥰

Yup, that's one of the very special things about this series. Fran's new family kind of reminds me of some of the moments from Dragon Maid.

Nawww

Right?

That was one of the things that surprised me about this show when I first watched it, I realise that's probably a theme in common with all my favourite shows.

Ooh it's been a while since I've watched Dragon Maid and I plan to rewatch soon - maybe I'll binge it between waiting for eps of Apothecary Diaries S3 and murder-kitten s2 haha.

GHIWTWM

I remember someone explaining the hyperlink (that might even have been you in either the magirevo or lycoreco watch discussions?) is visible on old reddit? I actually am not able to see what you linked to (it just goes to the feed) as I'm on the app, so I apologise 😅

Right?

Haha everyone wants to call Amanda mommy 😂🤭

Haha everyone wants to call Amanda mommy 😂🤭

I think Sein would approve.

Dragon Maid

Yeah, it's soooo comfy. I'm hoping someone will host a rewatch in the not so distant future, but yeah, it's one of my favorite comfort shows.

hyperlinks, etc.

Yeah, that was probably me. The reaction image is the yugi-oh mc(?) pouding his fists on the ground in rage. I'd try to find it online, but maybe later.

2

u/random_lyric 20d ago

Poor Frieren, she can't help her youthful asian looks despite being a granny. 😔 Sein for sure would be up for joining Amanda's party, especially for her sky blocking abilities.

Quite. Man, now I'm hoping that Amanda shows up in S2. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

2

u/random_lyric 20d ago

Yeah would love to see her in s2! I haven't read the LNs so I have no idea how much or little she appears in the story.

2

u/TheDanubianCommunard 21d ago

Varying strengths but I believe some are similar to Fran's rank and some are well above in rank? I wonder how cohesive the party will be going into the dungeon.

Let's see what they can do. Working together as team is the real key for success.

It takes all sorts... sigh. He certainly is abrasive and has an inflated ego. But hopefully his dragon skill will be useful once they actually enter the dungeon?

I don't think he is a real dragon.

3

u/AceSoldia https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 21d ago

I hope they explain why this woman wants to get Fran to trust her so quickly...girl we just met..give me space!..if Amanda was a man no one would accept this 🤣.

Great fight though..it's nice to see what Fran can do without Teachers help..she's not playing..she wants to win and not call anyone mama.

3

u/grayrest https://myanimelist.net/profile/grayrest 21d ago

girl we just met..give me space

For what it's worth, this is the anime director playing it up for humor. Amanda does particularly like children but her interactions with Fran in the written works are just a bit warmer than the guild receptionist.

1

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 21d ago

if Amanda was a man no one would accept this 🤣.

Quite. I think we saw that in action an episode or two ago. Except that fellow was a different kind of creepy (and annoying).

she wants to win and not call anyone mama.

Can I volunteer to lose in her stead? :)

3

u/Elimin8r https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ayeka_Jurai 21d ago

So, uh, I may have gotten carried away and watched the rest of the series. Oops... Anyway, it's way late now, but I don't want to wait until tomorrow and it's all a blur (sigh). Anyway, AOTD:

1) Hmm, Comic Relief, weaksauce, and ... yeah. They're just here to make Fran look good, right? Sasuga, Fran-sama!

2) Every dungeon party needs a weirdo. It's part of the charm, I think. I must admit, the cliche was strong in this one. At least he didn't lick his weapon. Small favors.

3) Amanda's definitely A-rank ... something. 'Nuff said.

4) Training episode? I saw it more as a mini tournament arc. Which, considering tournament arcs, I'm fine with it being mini (and over with quickly)

One thing I have been forgetting to mention so far (and others have) is how good the music is for this series. I half want to go find the OST for playing during my own tournament events.

The transitions to the ED are generally kiss too.

I think my favorite bits this episode were the beatdown of whatsisname, and mama.

Anyway, more to come tomorrow. I may just watch it again, because fun. (I do rather enjoy this series, after all.)

2

u/random_lyric 21d ago

I may have gotten carried away and watched the rest of the series.

Since it's confession time, I'll admit I also binged the remaining eps today 😅🤭 I'd forgotten a fair few details since the first time, and I think I enjoyed the show even more the 2nd time around so I just had to keep going. I'll blame poor impulse control 😂

I know it's good right? 😊

Rewatcher-Subbed

Great episode in two accounts.

  1. We got to see Fran finally prove to everyone that she got her rank on pure merit. Hell she could be a higher rank.
  2. This episode really delivers Amanda's character in two aspects.
    1. How strong she is. Truly in an invabluable Ally for Fran.
    2. The ending scene was the highlight because we can now understand why Amanda is called "The Protector of Children".

Curious how the actual quest goes for Fran.

2

u/TheDanubianCommunard 21d ago

Second-time watcher and your host, subs

Quite a sizeable exploration party formed to challenge the Spider's Web dungeon. E and D-ranks, I don't see them real strong compared to Fran. Regarding Cruise and his party, they quite stong and impressive overall at first glance.

That dude from the Dragon's Roar party is quite suspicious towards Fran with her sudden prominence. He accuses her that the GM defending her when it comes to this affair, and calling him pedo. Tried to kill Fran, but he failed. He is willig to spar with her, but actually he is all talk, as his combat powers are forgetable at best. So messed with the wrong person.

And there is Amanda, who is here as a supervisor. She does not like being badmouthed. She is extremely strong, but Fran proved that she was on an equal footing, and actually managed to corner her, a first time in ages. The Spirits' Undying Favor is no joke either - automatic activation and damage nullification on big dangers - so Fran is one of the lucky few who managed to actiate this condition.

It can be considered a good training before entering the dungeon, the spider's lair.

1) How strong the participating adventurer parties are?

They are quite weak, except for Cruise's party.

2) Why do we need this weirdo for the dungeon exploration?

All he wants is to succeed and to prove he is better than Fran.

3) Do Amanda's power level worthy for a legendary A-rank adventurer?

Yes.

4) Can you see this as a training episode?

Technically a friendly sparring constitutes to me as one.
