Daily Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - October 17, 2026

This is a daily megathread for general chatter about anime. Have questions or need recommendations? Here to show off your merch? Want to talk about what you just watched?

This is the place!

All spoilers must be tagged. Use [anime name] to indicate the anime you're talking about before the spoiler tag, e.g. [Attack on Titan] This is a popular anime.

Prefer Discord? Check out our server: https://discord.gg/r-anime

Recommendations

Don't know what to start next? Check our wiki first!

Not sure how to ask for a recommendation? Fill this out, or simply use it as a guideline, and other users will find it much easier to recommend you an anime!

I'm looking for: A certain genre? Something specific like characters traveling to another world?

Shows I've already seen that are similar: You can include a link to a list on another site if you have one, e.g. MyAnimeList or AniList.

Awards The 2026 r/anime Awards Announcement and Jury Application

LINK TO THE JUROR APPLICATION

APPLICATIONS CLOSE OCTOBER 18th 23:59 PDT!

Hello everyone~

Welcome back to the 11th annual r/anime Awards! It's once again time to watch a bunch of seasonals and argue about which one was best.

Category Changes in 2026

  • Lead & Supporting Character of the Year have been merged back into Character of the Year.
  • Movies are now eligible in Best Voice Acting.
  • Sequels with heavily reused character design are no longer eligible for Best Character Design.
  • Openings & Endings with very limited or no animation are no longer eligible for Best Opening & Ending.

Also, in case you missed it, here are last year's results.

The Awards Process

The base format of the Awards still remains: The Awards are split into two groups, the Public and the Jury, who will each nominate anime and separately rank them.

The public is everyone on r/anime and are invited to participate in two voting stages. Between January 3rd and 10th, subreddit users can vote to select five nominations per category, which will be paired with the five chosen by the jury. Then, from January 18th to February 19th, the subreddit votes again to rank the ten final nominees for each category.

The jury consists of anime enthusiasts invited to the Awards based on their ability to analyze anime and communicate their thoughts through the Juror Application. Their role is to familiarize themselves with the anime in their assigned categories, select five nominations, and rank the ten final nominees through detailed discussions between November and March.

If you wish to know more or view all the available categories check out our Awards Overview document.

Category Allocations

Each anime gets assigned to only one genre category and either Best Character or Best Ensemble Cast. The hosts have taken a first crack at allocating all the eligible anime to categories, but we haven't completely seen every single anime so we'd love to hear from you if you think some of these ought to be allocated differently.

In addition, there are hundreds of new anime short films and music videos that come out every year which aren't catalogued on websites like Anilist. We try to scour Youtube/Twitter/etc to find as many as we can but it's easy to simply not stumble across them. If you know an anime short film or music video from this year that isn't on our list, then please tell us in the comments.

You can see all the current allocations and eligible shorts here

The Livestream

The annual livestream returns complete with commentary, clip reels, and guest appearances! As with everything else, we're working to make things even better this year, and the livestream team has lots of ideas that they'll be working on.

We'll have more information as we get closer to February, but for now you can check out the streams from previous years on our YouTube channel!

The Juror Application

Juror applications are now open until October 18th, 23:59 PDT (UTC-7) for primary allocation! Selected jurors will be invited to join the Awards by November 1st. It will reopen again for subsequent applications after initial invites and remain open until December 31st.

Open Categories can be freely joined by any juror. Jurors who have taken part in a category to completion in any previous years to join the Open Categories without needing to fill out the application. Note that Anime of the Year, Movie of the Year, Shorts, Opening, and Ending still require an application to join. You can read the Jury Guide for more information.

Applications will remain open after the initial jurors are invited for anyone still wishing to join.

If being a juror sounds like something for you, please click the link below and fill out the application.

Contest [Summer 2026] Best Seiyuu of the Season - VOTING (Day 1)!

Thumbnail

Vote here:

If you ever find a character who is "missing", you may want to look up the seiyuu who voiced it, then search it in the entrants list with "Ctrl" + "F", as it's possible that the seiyuu was listed as having a role in another anime (instead of the character you were looking for).

Seed rank: Female, Male

Previous Winners:

Schedule:

  • Nominations - 8 Oct 2:00pm GMT to 10 Oct 2:00pm GMT
  • Eliminations - 11 Oct 2:00pm GMT to 15 Oct 2:00pm GMT
  • Voting - 17 Oct 2:00pm GMT to 23 Oct 2:00pm GMT

What to Watch? Why is it such a common thing for amazing animes to not get a season 2????

• Upvotes

Like wth….its so annoying

I’ve been venturing out to find new anime that I haven’t heard of, and I have found some absolute bangers. BUT I keep hitting the roadblock of them only being 1 season with a second season no where in sight. For example, these are some bangers ive watched BACK TO BACK now not knowing they probably won’t have a season 2:

  1. Heavenly delusion (I ended up finishing the manga)
  2. Kemono Jihen
  3. Wonder egg priority
  4. The witch and the b

east
This experience has honestly left me feeling so defeated and makes me not want to venture away from your usual big mainstream anime.

JuSt rEaD tHe mAnGa some of you might say, but it’s not the same ok 😭 I have read some of these out of desperation, but the anime just hits harder for me. You have the amazing fight choreography, the MUSIC, the voice acting…and these just aren’t replaceable in the manga.

Anyway, that’s a long winded way of saying I need some amazing recommendations that will knock my socks off and that won’t just die after season 1 thanks lol

What to Watch? Body swapping anime recs?

A few years back when I was into K-dramas I watched romcom Secret Garden where the ML and FL swapped bodies.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any anime with a similar concept.

Thanks!

Discussion Sentenced to be a hero Spoiler

This one got a lot of buzz after coming out and it definitely lives up to it. The twist on being a prisoner/hero is great. The action and gore is in point. The MC is amazing. He does have that innocent of his crimes and me against the world personality but he pulls it off. All of the side characters are awesome, you get a backstory on all of them. Kivia is an awesome character as well and prides herself on nobility which in the end effects her status as a holy knight. The show gives off big FMAB vibes and pulls it off in season 1!

Rewatch Shiki Rewatch [Halloween 2026] - Episode 10 Discussion

I have high hopes for you. I don't want to be disappointed.

Episode 10: Grief: Tenth Mourning

← Previous Episode | Index | Next Episode →

Information:

MAL | AniList | ANN | Kitsu | AniDB

Legal Streams:

Unfortunately, there are currently no places to stream Shiki legally. As such, you'll have to look into alternate methods.

You know I hate stuff like superstition and religion, don't you?

Questions of the Day:

1) What's your opinion on Natsuno's relationship with his parents?

2) Would having Natsuno become an okiagari be a strategic mistake on their part since he was willing to hunt them down?

Screenshot of the Day:

Guardian

Fanart of the Day:

Preying

Rewatchers, please remember to be mindful of all the first-timers in this. No talking about or hinting at future events, no matter how much you want to, unless you're doing it underneath spoiler tags. This especially includes any teases or hints such as "You aren't ready for X episode" or "I'm super excited for X character"; you got that? Don't spoil anything for the first-timers; that's rude!

It’s better if I’m the one who attacks you and not some stranger, isn’t it?
