Everyone's been dancing to Dina's tune this entire time. With how she's acting, even her getting fired might be part of the plan. (Maybe she even made herself extra suspicious on purpose because she thought Luna and Terra looked cute together and wanted a rescue scene.)
All according to Best Girl's keikaku.

I’m not sure about Dina being “best girl”, but I do agree that she’s certainly very entertaining to watch.
I had to laugh when she went on a rant about men being horndogs, and warned sweet, little Virgo of sorry-looking failures such as Aigokeros.

well she said earlier than expected but it was fine. So she expected to get kicked out at some point.

Libra got a Megazord Cannon-Jetpack as an upgrade .... cool.
And her first reaction? "Who shall I fire the mountain-melter at, M'lady?!" xD

Mizar counteracting the influence corrupting his personality by putting a copy of his mind in that Blutgang Crystal Golem was pretty smart of him!
With Venus as Dina, Mizar, and Aigokeros all eluding at it, the Demons being a mere attack spell on humanity by the goddess is an interesting reveal. It only makes me more curious about why Orm seems to have his own plans, and what motivated him to create Terra. Who is different from the "NPCs" in Dina's view.
Also, between Libra's mountain demolishing Astraia upgrade and Orms attack on Castor, the show continues to delight me with its spectacles.

Terra said that his father is able to use Exgate... and that you need both divine and magical energy to do so. And that he was cooperating with Venus for some reason.
13
u/bob_kang 1d ago
Ironic since usually moving your personality, soul, or mind into technology makes it so you lose your humanity.
11
u/Vaxivop https://anilist.co/user/vaxivop 1d ago
Well he only created a copy he didn't move anything

u/bob_kang 1d ago
If you go into any cyberpunk works that explore this, you learn how a sentient being's mind is more than just the electrical signals in your brain that can be copied. Some say there's some other part of what makes a person like a soul but even if you want to stick with just the science part, there's a whole bunch of chemistry affecting what a person is as well, from your digestive system all the way to the makeup of whatever chemicals your brain is flooded with. If you copy someone's thoughts and personality into an artificial body, would it be the same without all the other factors affecting it?
3
u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago
Remind me of The Emperor's New Mind by Roger Penrose, however, this is a world based on magic and not on science (only), so none of that really matter.

Closer to original Freedom with the hip-mounted railguns and lack of funnels/dragoons
The firing animation also looks closer to freedoms beamspam

At first I thought it was an add-on part like the Back Weapon System for the ReGZ, but when those wings popped up and the docking laser lit up, it couldn't be anything else but a SEED parody. :P

And I liked how Luphas reacted during the test, and Libra, following this, expressed a very strong desire to test it out against a real opponent.

It was pretty fun watching Dina as Venus antagonize Terra, then returning to Lufas and going "Tee-hee, I've been fired!" xD
I guessed last episode that Mizar is the ship's AI, and it looks like I wasn't too far off! He transferred his memories and personality over to the golem that acts as Blutgang's heart and brain.
So the demons are basically a living spell created by the Goddess targeted at mankind. So that explains why they never leave a body behind. They just revert into mana.
One of the Twelve Heavenly Stars is actually the Goddess' son, and Lufas didn't know? That's pretty funny! I hope we get to meet Pisces this season.
Time for a Libra to get an upgrade! We kinda already saw this in the OP, but it's still pretty cool to see her go full-on Strike Freedom Gundam mode! Kira approves! xD
We get to meet Castor, who gets to have a 1v1 against the Demon King! I wonder what happened to his twin? I assume the other one is Pollux.

u/DerfK 18h ago
I guessed last episode that Mizar is the ship's AI, and it looks like I wasn't too far off! He transferred his memories and personality over to the golem that acts as Blutgang's heart and brain.
I'm a little surprised that Lufas didn't try to see if the memory of Mizar had memories of being a player.
38
u/NanDemoKnaives 1d ago
It's a really good thing Mizar took those measures in the past, but man it must be so unsettling for the current Mizar to have watched his original self go crazy, and then completely guilt ridden and ashamed afterwards. I'm sure he even tried to convince Mizar that there was something wrong with him, but to no avail.
Libra's eyes sparkling because of the new destructive firepower she gained was funny, even she has these moments.
Castor is cool, but he was definitely raising flags throughout that fight lol.

So we have new info on Dina.
First we can go over all known information on Dina to determine her and her knowledge.
She is clearly an enemy of demonfolk (see the winged people episode)
She clearly knew about Lufras's revival and debatably manipulated it to happen.
She knows about the outside world and also a lot about the specific goddess scenario
To expand more on point 3, she knew about photos, and about other things from Lufras's world but at the same time seemed to be surprised when she learned lufras was a guy on the inside. This has a 50% chance of just being Dina messing with lufras and lying though. i mention this because there are 2 possibiliites for Dina having knowledge of the outside world. Either She really is a beta tester/player from the old game or B: she obtained all her knowledge of the outside world by stealing it from Lufras when they first met.
We also know that Dina has simultainously been a "spy" on the devil king's activities and also an aid to Lufras. She clearly allowed The devil king to attack the ship without lufras's support. While allowing lufras to gain allies she has also consistently not gone for the most efficient path
When lufras had funding issues instead of taking her direct to the pyramid to get the treasure she instead had her do a detour to fight some orcs.
Whenever lufras was somehwere she also made sure some devils did an ambush to get Lufras to kill the devils.
One thing to notice about Lufras is at the start of the show the man on the inside was not fully in control of her. In fact it seemed like there was another force on her that was making lufras go from "meek japanaese man" to "all powering diety of destruction" In fact the "Memories of past lufras" started coming up right before lufras met dina as if that was the start of Dina's memory manipulation on lufras.
Dina claimed to know the whereabouts of 6 of the 12 but that seems to have been probably a lie. She probably knows about more but is hiding them.
Dina being such an unreliable narrator means that its' hard to judge what or who she is in any reasonable capacity. She's definitely an enemy of demonfolk but anything else is completely unclear.
14
u/NevisYsbryd 1d ago
There is a third possibility: she has awareness of our world regardless, but it may have been at a macro-scale level or personal level and not rooted in intimate awareness of the protagonist player, specifically.
12
u/Hot-Log6283 1d ago
I like the fact that it is also shown in this episode that she could just potentially be a goof.
Like Rimuru from Tensura, Ainz from Overlord, or Cid from The Eminence in Shadow, but without showing us her inner monologue, we are just reacting like the side characters from those other show.
14
u/flatpetey https://anilist.co/user/kesx 1d ago
Isn’t she also potentially or likely an avatar of the goddess?
9
u/ussgordoncaptain2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Edmund_Nelson 1d ago
We don't know, there are signs to be sure, but one issue with that is that if she is an avatar she's also simultaneously working against the demonfolk who are the summons of the goddess. If she is the avatar of the godess she's an avatar with limited support for the demonfolk
The one exception so far (which is a Really big exception) is that she enabled the king to attack the ship with the key completely unimpeded. It's unknown if she intentionally tried to manipulate this outcome or got unlucky. If she was allowing this this would imply she's an avatar of the godess who also tries really hard to reduce the power of demonkind but not to the extent where Lufras isnt' kept in check.
4
u/NSUNDU 1d ago
This episode said that a spell broke off from the goddess, Dina could have done the same. The demon king does not seem to be working with the goddess as well
3
u/ussgordoncaptain2 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Edmund_Nelson 1d ago
Yeah I'm like 90% that Dina is an avatar of the godess
but about 30% she's an avatar that has split off from the goddess in some meaningful way
3
u/NSUNDU 1d ago
The other hypothesis I had is that she is a spell created by Lufas herself. She might have noticed that things were going wrong with the goddess and created Dina to ressurect her by messing with the exgate or created her so that she would "guide" her after she ressurected since the dead girl from last season said Lufas knew the goddess would mess with her ressurection. The demon king doesn't seem to be against Lufas and he is not against Dina as well, so that would track
4
u/NSUNDU 1d ago
She most likely is Eros or a spell like Eros. It may just be that she was around 200 years ago and was the one that manipulated everything, including Mizars memory, that lead to Lufas death.
She for sure isn't a beta tester, even Lufas realized that her story didn't make any sense. She mentioned to Luna that she was just like her, so she most likely is a spell or was a puppet for someone. There is also the possibility that Lufas herself created her when she noticed something was wrong with the idea that she would guide her when she awoke since the dead girl from last season said Lufas knew the goddess would mess with her revival
2
u/flatpetey https://anilist.co/user/kesx 18h ago
Didn’t they say Eros was one of the luminaries?
2
u/NovaEclipse250 15h ago
No they said Eros was one of the goddess' son, which in response Aries said that he's one of the 12 stars, not lumenaries
28
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago
I wanna see the Libra mech suits in action lol. Those dwarves helped Lufas upgrade the hell out of her shit. Even the camper’s lookin good.
It’s no real surprise the demon lord and his minions are all NPCs from the goddess. Sounds about right. At this point, is anyone else not an NPC or controlled by the goddess besides Lufas?
27
26
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 1d ago
If there's one thing Libra needed it was more firepower. Always a cooling upgrade to add a weapon studded booster pack to your robot maid.
The entire demon race being spells is interesting but also a bit sad, they just gave us this neat Terra and Luna side ship and hopefully it isn't a doomed side ship.
Dina may be evil but she's also fun.
25
u/athrun_1 1d ago
They didn't even try to hide that the launch sequence are the combined sequences of Strike, Impulse, and Freedom. Even the sound effects are the same. That put a really big grin on my face. Love it.
27
u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 1d ago
It’s crazy to think that most of the demon race is merely an “attack spell” created by the Goddess. Yet it does weirdly make sense, doesn’t it?
The Goddess doesn’t appear able to intervene with the physical world herself. However, she can still use a vast assortiment of different spells. She therefore summoned an army of “demons” with the explicit mission of fighting humankind.
In this regard, those (sleeping) mythical dragons from last season might also have to be seen as “summons”.
49
u/VritraReiRei 1d ago
Now I'm not a big mecha fan by any means. But you have to admit...
Now onto the lore drop...
Wow. That's actually a really good explanation why Demonkind (the enemies of the game players) are NPCs: "A spell cast by the Goddess."
It makes sense why they turn into Mana and EXP when they die. They do their objective without questioning it, including the Demonlord. And only the son began questioning it because technically he's a "spell that was fired from a spell."
That's pretty good writing.
28
u/derega16 1d ago
I think Terra is made to oppose goddess in the place of demon king as he can't oppose her directly.
17
u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 1d ago
I suppose that the Goddess wouldn’t be able to manipulate Terra’s thoughts since he’s merely a spell created by the Demon King.
This does leave one question: when/how did the Demon King realise that he’s under the mental influence of the Goddess?
17
4
u/derega16 1d ago edited 1d ago
He's probably "spell with own will" like Eros, it doesn't rule out there's someone else like that, just Eros is the only one Mizar know. Also, it already said he isn't the same kind as the rest of demon. There's probably have more safeguard on him so he can't act freely like Eros does.

Looks like Castor reached the Devil King's second phase. He might be the strongest heavenly star we've seen just based on this performance and he's meant to only be "half" of gemini?
17
u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 1d ago
My first thought was that the Goddess had directly intervened when this evil-looking eye in the sky appeared, but it does make a bit more sense if this is an alternate form of the Demon King.
12
u/OneDeuxTriSeiGo 1d ago
i mean NGL that looked like the Goddess just "turned the big light on" after her spell/demon king pushed Castor to reveal that they actually have the key.
5
u/0mnicious https://myanimelist.net/profile/Omnicious 1d ago
The demon king isn't a spell. The demonkind are a spell.
7
u/OneDeuxTriSeiGo 1d ago
Nah they both are. Demonkind in general and the Demon King himself aiui is an additional/separate spell that has not just a demonic aspect but also a divinity aspect unlike normal demonkind.
6
u/BetelgeuseIsBestGirl 1d ago
Probably the dragon they think might be hidden on the moon. Castor seemed a little too shocked for just a second phase/form of the demon king, so I went back to the last episode of season 1 to check something. The moon dragon's design and color scheme do seem to match him pretty well. Maybe Orm's second phase is the dragon? That or the giant eye Castor saw was the dragon taking a shot at the ship from the moon.

🤣🤣🤣🤣. I burst out laughing when they turned the parts of the golems into Gundam transformation parts. I'm dead.
I never expected the devilfolk to actually be spells.
Just what in the world is Dina even planning?
And wow that last fight was crazy..I can't wait to see what that was at the end there.

u/Acceptable-Week-1924 1d ago edited 1d ago
This might seem a bit off-topic, but does anyone know the symbolism behind ED?
When I first saw it, I thought it was just a step down from Migi Hidari, which carried so much heavy narrative weight (even though the song itself is great). But the more I watch it, the more it’s grown on me, and I noticed something interesting.
Dina starts at the very bottom and throws a blue orb up to Lufas at the top, passing through all the major characters in chronological order of their debut across both seasons (Aries, Gantz, Mars, the Hawk group, etc.). But what is that blue orb? It’s the representation of Mizgarz - the world caged by Alovenus in OP1.
Visually, this implies that Dina is entrusting the fate of Mizgarz to Lufas after guiding her through the entire journey. The emotional vibe is also completely different from Migi Hidari, where Dina comes across as very suspicious (while also looking serene and somewhat lonely). Here, she looks sincere, pure, and hopeful. I don't know the lyrics, but unlike the catchy vibe of Migi Hidari, this one feels nostalgic and surprisingly intimate.
Are you sure Dina is evil? As suspicious as she is, I cannot see her as an enemy. I hope my theory is true.
Also, that Castor and Orm fight was amazing.
Edit: There's a mistranslation in the Mizar conversation part; "majin" means "devil," not the "Devil King" (which is "majin ou"). So the ones Mizar and Aigokeroes referred to were the devilfolk, not the Devil King (who was kind of implied to be a different species from the rest of the devilfolk in episode 11). No idea why Crunchyroll made this big of a mistake.
17
u/ElectricSorrow 1d ago
Thanks for clarifying. I was feeling confused because the devil king did seem different from the other devils, and in season 1 I believe he spoke to Lufas in away that seemed to indicate he wasn’t just a puppet of the goddess.
5
4
u/NevisYsbryd 1d ago
That is not quite right. Majin is generally a singular noun and translates loosely as something like evil spirit or great sorcerer (generally with a negative implication). The plural form is usually something more like mazoku. A Majin being the head of a group of mazoku is a relatively common naming convention.
Worth noting that this also is a great bit of wordplay. Majin is not, strictly, speaking, demon in the sense that Westerners understand the term in an Abrahamic context. Western demons are ontologically and/or teleologically evil spirits or quasi-divinities. Mazoku and majin denote a clan, species, or class of spirits that are usually related to sorcery and/or antagonism with the established order and especially the ruling divine structure, with the Japanese word more precisely denoting something like the Western concept being akuma. That distinction might actually matter here, with the 'demonfolk' literally being a malefic spell.
9
u/redlaWw 1d ago
The term being used in this episode is "Majin-zoku", so it's referring to the entire group of them.
The use of the term "devil" is just one way of translating the idea of a majin into something already-familiar to English people, but the core issue with the mistranslation is that the subs described a conversation about a group or race of creatures as about the leader of that group or race.
7
u/Acceptable-Week-1924 1d ago
I know what the word means in etymology. The word itself could be loosely translated as "being of magic," rooted in the word of "ma" (related to "mahou," magic) and "jin" (person), which is appropriate in the lore context that devilfolk is a manifestation of mana - but still made in the lens of true demons of Hel (Aigokeros' race, which is portrayed like the traditional Christian demons of Baphomet). Genie characters also frequently used the same word as a description.
But it's still a mistranslation. The word "majin ou" is blatantly specific, and there's no instance of Orm being referred to as "majin" only in the broader context. Episode 16 actually used the word "majinzoku," which straightforwardly translated to thedevilfolk.
- Majin = devil
- Majinzoku = devilfolk
- Majin ou = Devil King
36
u/Raymond49090 1d ago
DwarfGPT which backed himself up before the original got infected by GoddessVirus.exe
And d*mn, that's crazy lore on the devilfolk. "NPC" is a pretty apt term, as it turns out. It also explains how their strength can be so carefully tuned to match humanity. The Demon Lord seem to be the exception for some reason, so he's probably the "admin" for the game. And Terra's another oddity, since there shouldn't really be any reason to add another lvl 1000 balance breaker to the "game".
And offscreen, Castor tripping flags like crazy. They probably won't kill him off before he's collected by Lufas, but he's definitely losing the MacGuffin.

They went really hard on the Greek mythology references and some of it appears to be more thematic than the usual relatively arbitrary ability names. The goddess Astraea, a goddess of stars, hope, ethics, faith, and justice, lacks any traditional consensus on a sign or constellational association, although Virgo and Libra are among the most common. There was never really a consensus on who exactly the maiden of Virgo was, whereas Libra is associated with figures like the Furies, Dike, Praxadike, and Nemesis, all female divinities concerned with vengeance or justice.
Castor is indeed one of the two twins who comprise Gemini (one often being mortal, the other immortal). While I am not entirely sure why they have powers related to the Argo constellation (which is a large constellation going through several zodiacal signs), they are clearly invoking the Argonauts, the greatest assembly of Greek heroes. Gemini and Mercury (Gemini's ruler) are both associated with liminal things, tricksters, being many things or supposedly mutually exclusive things simultaneously, and so on. Based on the elemental patterns thus far, we would expect Gemini to be water (Mercury pertaining to elemental water in the Chinese system where we get Jupiter as wood (wind), Venus as metal, etc), although this seems more like air thus far (the element of the sign of Gemini). Not sure if this is a logic break/complication or if it will turn out to be water or what. 50 names is a Marduk reference, to my knowledge, which would point towards Jupiter and thus Saggitarius or Pisces, not Gemini.
Eros is complicated. Eros is at least three separate concepts in Greek religion/philosophy, and refers to at minimum two specific, technical concepts in Hellenistic astrology (invoking the previous three). Philosophically/Religiously, Eros may refer to: the Protogenoi, one of the Primordials who predate the Olympians and are the personifications of their respective concepts, Eros embodying co-creative yearning to unite and generate with a subject of affection (not exclusively but certainly including sexually and procreatively); Cupid, the son of Aphrodite who shoots arrows that incite mad, erotic passion; or the unpersonified force or affective state the Protogenoi presides over. Astrologically, Eros mostly refers to the 'Lot of Eros,' an astrological point derived from the distance between two other bodies then projected from an anchor point (most often the eastern horizon). There are two separate traditions used to calculate it: the Egyptian, the distance between the Lots of Spirit, and the Hermetic, Spirit and Venus. There is a very strong obvious tie-in with Eros and Venus to the sign of Pisces, but that would be the first time this series has involved it-exaltation. The planet that rules Pisces is Jupiter, but Pisces also is the exaltation of Venus, the location that brings out the very best of it and was supposedly Venus's location at the birth of the world. Pisces is also the 'House of God' in the Thema Mundi, but I have nowhere near enough information to guess as to how deliberate that is here. We might infer a Cupid connection, though, being literally the son of (Alo)Venus.

I still miss the season 1 op and ed they were peak. Terra confronts Venus but that's for naught. Now she can finally stop acting as one of the seven luminaries.
So Mizar lives through his Golem after transferring his personalities into it before going berserk due to Alovenus like the other heroes. Aigokoros also knows that the devilfolk are spells created by God to serve as weapons against mankind. I wonder how Terra being a spell created by the Devil King makes him different from the other devilfolk created as a spell by the Goddess.
Eros/Pisces, the Goddess's son who is also one of the twelve heavenly stars under Lufas. Libra got a fine deadly upgrade. Did Tanaka really grew in size ? I didn't really see any difference. Maybe the interior changed.
We saw one of the Gemini twins, castor. What about the other one ? Castor was really powerful enough to challenge the Devil king. Is the key to heaven a way to reach the Goddess?

u/BetelgeuseIsBestGirl 1d ago
The sister should still be sealing away one of the dragons wherever she is right now. She probably doesn't have the freedom to move around right now that her brother has.
7
u/Bugsy_Girl 1d ago
I just had a crackpot theory that the memory manipulation that Lufas is experiencing is actually that there ever was a “real world in Japan” and that it’s not actually a video game
12
u/Playful-One 1d ago
Good episode. Man, Venus is so fun to watch, the contrast with Dina's dojikko act is very funny.
Some lore drops, even if the subs clearly gave up the ghost and started using devil king and devilkind more or less interchangeably despite the audio being very clear they were speaking of the devilkind/mazoku race
9
u/Lenna_Sakura 1d ago
They're "majinzoku", not "mazoku", although the two are similar. Notably, the "ma" in those is the same as the "ma" in mahou, which doesn't really come across in the translation.

u/orange-shades https://myanimelist.net/profile/orangeshades 1d ago
Oh neat, so I was on the right track last week.
Neat little thing they got going on. I like the idea of how the Goddess is not only creating things in her own manner, but also rewriting the lore of Lufas and Co by making Pisces her offshoot.
That big eye at the end of the fight could be a Demon dimensional gate, or maybe it's the Goddess' eye peeking in for a literal deus ex machina?

u/Ultimate-Break 1d ago
As fun as it was to see Libra pulling the equivalent of a digivolution and the hijinks, I gotta say the most fascinating thing was the nature of the demons being somewhat sentient/sapient spells by the goddess.
It was somewhat hinted at in the previous season but here it was just confirmed.
9
u/NevisYsbryd 1d ago
It is arguably hinted at in their very names. While the use of these words in Japanese media writ large is often haphazard, words like majin technically imply some kind of clan or species of sorcerers antagonistic towards the conventional or rightful order, not ontologically/teleologically evil entities like the word 'demon' implies to an Abrahamic ear. That more precise word for that is akuma. So, they are quite literally their name, 'evil magic people,' although in this case less users of evil magic but literally a malicious spell.

Dina is such a fun character because of the contrast when she switches, isn't she? She is so fascinating character whose depth we still haven't fully explored.
I'm looking forward to more great banter between her and Rufas in the future.

The more maids the merrier, that upgrade Libra got was pretty awesome.
Even the vehicle got a nice upgrade as well.
Castor is pretty badass, but he has a serious fight on his hands if he wants to keep that key for Lufas.

Besides the strike freedom reference, I also like to think of Castor as Cid Highwind 😂

If I had a nickel for every Japanese franchise that turned Pollux into a little sister, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but... knowing Japan it's not that weird it happened twice.

Interesting bit about names... One of Lufas' nicknames is Alcor. At least that's what the demon king referred to her as.
She must have been really close to Mizar, considering those two stars are considered a pair in the Big Dipper.
And fun fact, Alcor and Mizar were used as a vision test since at least 2000 years ago. If you could see both of them clearly, you were considered to have good eyesight.

Now that you mentioned it, a lot of names, whether characters or abilities, are rooted in astrology, like Libra's Zuben El Genubi and Zuben Es Chamali (which Libra Copies ironically used against Scorpius, because the stars originally came from the Scorpio constellation before changing to the Libra constellation, if I remember correctly).
Mizar and Lufas should indeed be relatively close. Mizar created Libra and considered her his greatest masterpiece (even called her "daughter"), but gave her to Lufas, and Libra knew Lufas quite well because Mizar told stories about her. Both of them are golem freaks.

Wait a minute, looks like Castor actually got the Demon King (or at least put him out of commision I guess).
