Rondache, Ascension Crossbows & Zorya's Tome - Concept vs Final
I just wanted to make a picture putting the concepts and the finalized models side-by-side to compare and contrast. Added my thoughts about them as well, did I miss anything?
Worth remembering that lightning settings can be a factor too. Some of the colors might be better, or worse, when you see them ingame. Ingame items can't always perfectly match the concept (it also is just a concept to base on, not exactly how the final item ought to look), but the colors are really close so it might already match the concept exactly depending on brightness.
In the past, that has been an issue for images in update posts and such. Though other times the "default" was the dark setting so anyone playing on higher brightness had the items less dark than the concept.
So it could be this is on a higher brightness and it is fine or this is on a darker setting and they'd be way to bright of colors on higher settings. Either way, seems like they got it pretty close so if it does feel off, probably won't be too hard to nudge it a bit closer.
It's a very subtle change, but it stops the bright green crystal part from popping out as much and blends better with the rest of the weapon.
If you still can't see a difference (R/G colorblindness affects 8% of men worldwide), here's the change in color with the hex code as well. Taken from the same spot; left is from the render, right is from my adjustment.
It doesn't perfectly match the jade-green of the original concept art, but it's closer than the current weapon which is more of a medium green.
I feel like these are pretty nitpicky remarks! There's always going to be tweaks between concept art and the final model, some things look impressive in 2D but don't translate well to 3D and so on. I would not read very much into changes between them.
Yeah they’re pretty nitpicky, the only things I personally don’t like about the designs are the messed-up Guthix logo on the tome (actually needs fixing) and the medium-to-bright green on the crossbows.
Guthix's logo normally has three bends and then the tip, not two, so it looks really off to me. It's also shown with the normal three bends in the concept art as well. I made this concept in a minute or two to explain what I mean since it's so specific.
I like your slight color change better, tho tbh, I wish they'd redesign what these crossbows look like entirely.
I don't even know what these are supposed to resemble besides colors in the vague shape of a crossbow. Is this like a crystal fused with roots or something? It is a slab of rock and crystal? Where does the bolt even go?
Something like Karil's crossbow or the Hunter's crossbow or the Armadyl crossbow I could easily imagine what they are irl, but this thing just looks so vague
I get they're trying to use the same design as RS3 since they originated there, but it really doesn't fit this game imo
I still think the book would be cooler if you were just flinging burning green pages from it, you could almost reuse the animation from those Yu-Gi-Oh cards you can get from diango
I think the ascencion xbows are mostly fine. I do think one thing that coukd be changed about them is the handle at the bottom should have a big round part as a reference to guthix. Then when you look at the rest of it your mind will be taken away from bananas. Aschlongcion bows if you will
The crossbows do seem a bit.. off. Less like the gun(bolt) slinging weapons i figured they would be and more.. limp? Are the colors locked in, or what if something less taken from the rs3 version is used? Guthix is wild and unpredictable, so what if they were some different shades or colors all together?
I feel like the tome would’ve looked cooler if it simply levitated in front of you when you specced and sort of took over your character with power in appearance.
I hope you guys realize they will look even more different when they are actually in the game. They look great. Also, these are the most 1:1 concept art to render we have gotten ever.
