I’m completely new to MMOs and only recently got into SWTOR, which has honestly hooked me way more than I expected. Before that, I tried WoW Retail, GW2 and Aion 2 but couldn’t get into any of them. I genuinely thought MMOs weren’t for me until I discovered SWTOR lol.
A few days ago I decided to try RuneScape, starting with RS3 because the graphics looked good, and I’m enjoying it so far. But the more I look into OSRS, the more I’m tempted to switch over. The community seems much bigger, the game seems to be in a really good spot, and I keep hearing that the devs actually listen to player feedback.
I know I’m asking this on the OSRS subreddit, so obviously the answers will probably be biased 😂 but I’d still love some honest opinions from people who’ve played both versions. What makes you prefer OSRS over RS3, especially if you’re a newer player? Is it the progression, the community, the updates, the gameplay, or something else entirely?
I’m looking for an MMO I can sink hundreds of hours into and still have things to work toward. I’ve also heard RuneLite plugins can make the game look a lot better and improve the overall experience, which is a big plus.
Would you recommend sticking with RS3 or starting fresh with OSRS? I’d love to hear your reasons!

Wasn't keeping track of the number of attempts but I think it was in the region of about 25. Got it on the 2nd zuk, which ended up being b2b from the first one.
Lil tip for anyone working towards inferno; if you die at zuk, have a break and go do something else before running it back. It'll help reset mentally. Also, use scim.gg for zuk practice; I was using the old infernotrainer one previously, and it turns out the timing can be a bit off, plus the gear being 4 years out of date really doesn't help with muscle memory. And unless you're doing mage tank, USE ARMA BREWS FOR HEALERS. Game changer.
Compared with colo, I wouldn't exactly say I enjoyed inferno, but it was a LOT more satisfying to finish. Gonna enjoy the break from wave-based gauntlet challenges until tower is released.

That was definitely way easier than the inferno. I would defimitely use the scythe over a noxious halberd. It's just so much more damaging.
That's both Infernal cape and Quiver done!!
If you say you are bad at PvM, you aren't. Just don't give up :). You will get it eventually!!

With fresh hardcore worlds coming soon, I feel like this should be brought up again. Having a rich main should not affect your fresh hardcore main in any way. It's so stupid that this is even a thing.
First time I heard about gp swapping was during Deadman mode last winter, and coming from PoE I couldn't believe this was just accepted. Even if I'm not competing for the tops ranks, it just ruins the whole vibe tbh. And it felt like half the players only played it to swap gp (and were effectively not actually playing the gamemode at all)
In PoE cross league trading gets you a temp ban at the very least, and can lead to a perma ban for repeated offenses. If GGG can do it, I don't see why Jagex couldn't.

It doesn’t mean much to others. But when you are a kid and you see something magical and you want one but don’t have the skills to attain it, you feel like you’ll never be able to have one.
When I was younger, I played a ton of RuneScape. I was an active player for many years. Through the Combat Update, Runescape3, Old School RuneScape release, Falador Massacre. I was even playing during my Chemotherapy in a hospital bed.
All that said, there was one thing I wanted to achieve in the game: a Fire Cape.
I was scared of Jad as a kid. I tried beating him when I was younger and I couldn’t. I wasn’t skilled enough, or capable enough. I finally decided recently to study and attempt this again. I’m not good at PvE or PvP in RuneScape. I play it for the comfort of number go up.
But today, I finally achieved my childhood dream on the game. I earned that fire cape.
My heart was pounding the entire last few waves. I died multiple times beforehand. But I’m proud of what I did. Regardless of how it’s for a dumb video game. It was what the kid version of me wanted for years.
And my friends, and my wife cheering me on is what made it even better. ❤️

Like seriously? Is it just canon that our character sees Ragnar or Skraeling and thinks "fuck this guy"?
It's like a gotcha to lower your approval percentage just for the kicks. These people are already getting me my resources, am I really such a bastard that I just want to fuckin' merk these poor souls?

After years of lurking, two days ago I came back to the game for the first time in 17 years
I’m only around 230 total level but I realized how different the economy is now. Today I made my first million in an hour or two.
I know that’s peanuts for all of you, but I remember doing endless runs of essence or flax for what seemed like days, without ever crossing more than 300-400k. I was very proud of my rune battleaxe and Dragon Scimitar.
Gunning for Barrows and Whip next - both things I was always so eager to get, but never reached that before life moved on.
Most of us play for more or less because of nostalgia, so what about you - what would stun the young version of yourself, other than that you are still somehow playing this game?
Enjoy your weekend.

Just had a quick idea for a new potential mining activity. Keeping this write up quite simple but excited to expand on this.
Players tunnel into a mountain, mining rock to extend the tunnel, exposing veins and offshoots of ore to be collected. [Mining XP and Ore]
Players periodically build shaft reinforcements and extend cart track. [Construction XP and mobile bank deposit by way of mine cart]
You can go as deep as you want, the deeper you go the more lucrative the ore and XP gains become, however, the tunnels can collapse! A tunnel collapse will be an escapable event via a sepulchre style sprint to safety. Dying here causes you to lose some of the collected ore, XP is kept. [Agility XP]
Repeat!

I saw it advertised, but during and before runefest I didn't even hear a word about it.
I didn't attend Runefest myself.
So people who did, was it there? If yes, how was it?

It might be well known but just incase you need some extra spec for the next room, any crabs you hit give proc death charge once the room is complete.
