Major water damage then black mold killed my collection :(
They were loved and had great times. Had to put them in storage while I got my life together.

That absolutely sucks. I lost all my original rulebooks from the 00s that way. Sorry, mate.

That really sucks bud, not sure in the level of damage but I’d checkout some book restoration articles. Better to save something than nothing !

Is there truly nothing to be done? Beyond the monetary value... those are all great, great books...

They had been rotting for some time after the water damage. I saved a handful of Warhammer books. But in a way, they sacrificed themselves for the rest of my books to survive. But they were also my most valuable books :/

Good grief. Each of those books are hard to find. And yeah, gotta get good storage, silica gel and charcoal bags to keep our books good.

Damn bro I’m genuinely sorry. After a flood I lost about 80+ comics I spent years collecting. It gave me psychic damage just looking at them lol. I’m sure this is very similar so my condolences truly.

Thank you all for the responses and care, fell asleep last night and woke up to your care. It does suck, nothing is salvageable due to black mold all through the inside. Can’t open the books without ripping everything.

My sincerest condolences. These are more than just books (though, books are prized in their own rights), they are relics. Their loss is painful indeed.
As someone else mentioned, you may want to look into potential restoration. Hard to say if it can restore the damage done, but... 🤷🏻♂️
A lot of more modern books are printed differently, so the paper and the inks may not be recoverable. But, it is a thought perhaps worth pursuing even once as an experiment.

Like a handful of the other commenters, I've been through this. It's a horrible thing to lose a collection to. I'm genuinely sorry you had to experience this. I wouldn't wish toxic mold on anybody.

Try a bit of aftershave of the covers, only light amounts, fetches off a lot of stuff might work but test it first. Sorry about your books.

You can probably save them, just let them dry out without stacking them on one another

My heart aches for you! My collection is among my prized possessions. I would be completely devastated if this happened to me. I hope you can salvage at least some of it, and in time replace what was destroyed ❤️

No. Oh god no. The pain I feel is extreme. Is there no way to save them? I am very sorry.

Did you have some form of Rental Insurance on the unit that you could see covers their replacement? Unit I've rented in the past the place always had me pay a Rental Insurance charge to cover what I've stored.

So before you throw it out. See if its salvagable. Put it in a small room with a dehumidifier to dry everything out and then wipe the pages down with towels with bleache solution and wipe them down.

Oh shit, that's hard :/ Those books are so hard to come by at a reasonable price..
