Progress Book 209/750 (longterm goal): How Not To Kill Yourself by Clancy Martin
An autobiographical look at a suicidal mind. Clancy Martin recounts his many attempts at taking his own life, his alcoholism, and his family while also discussion the subject of suicide as discussed with others and presented in literature.
I really loved this book. It did a lot to demystify suicide and open up the conversation in a respectful way. It offers hope and solutions while also expressing a deep understanding and compassion for those struggling with suicidal ideation. It will definitely stay with me.

I went to school at UMKC and Clancy used to lay down on the concrete outside Cockefair hall in a blazer with no shirt underneath, smoking little cigars and waiting for his first wife to pick him up in a new Range Rover.
Rich and successful people trying really hard to be troubled and mysterious to point of cliche and absurdity. The other faculty rolled their eyes when his name was mentioned.

I had Clancy Martin as a professor, he was an endlessly fascinating person. I recall him showing me a prison tattoo at one point.

Yes, same! I can say the same and most of the girls in my class had a crush on him (me included). I wonder if he is still teaching, I had him for a Money, Medicine, and Morals course

That’s one of my all time favorites! I already loved Ender, but after this book it left me forever thinking of him.
Also adding the Clancy Martin book to me to check out list!
