For context: In German, "Gendern" means including both male and female forms and often a * for non-binary people. For example Lehrer*In or Lehrer*in or LehrerIn or Lehrer und Lehrerinnen. (Multiple ways to gender Teacher.) It's a big culture war thing and both the CDU (the "conservative"/right-wing party) and the AfD (the far right party) love to hate on the concept. Genderfrei/Gender free seems to be a slogan against it.

To make sure the * asterisks don't get parsed by markdown, always put a backslash (\) before them

Maybe your original comment isn't clear enough, German is a gendered language and words can be masculine, feminine, or neuter. Words pertaining to people (e.g. teacher) have a male and a female form (Lehrer / Lehrerin) and the gender neutral way to refer to it i've seen, which is getting eaten by markdown unfortunately, is Lehrer*in

(I don't live in Germany, I am Austrian but I don't live there and I am not fluent in German, so please correct me if I've said anything wrong)

They gonna restructure the whole language so everything is neuter? No? Then they're not really living up to their slogan, now are they?

i don't follow german politics, so i don't know if this is supposed to be pro or anti trans? "gender-free" as a slogan could be used by either

It's against queens, "gender" is a big culture war of the right wing partys

It's really annoying because "gender-free" sounds like it could be saying "gender roles and expectations are stupid! We should treat people like people first and foremost!" But unfortunately, in every country I've lived in, the term "gender-free" has been co-opted by the terfs and transphobes, the types that say nonsense like "I don't have a gender - I'm just a woman!"

I actually do not like gender-abolition. My identity as a trans woman is important to me.
