Could be the valves in the head. I had one where one of the valve reeds had come loose and it affected its ability to hold air. If you don’t find a different cause, CAREFULLY take the heads off and inspect the reed valves, head gaskets, cylinder walls, etc.. When reassembling, if the head gaskets aren’t torn you should be able to reassemble. Use Google or one of the free AI bots to figure out what the torque should be on the head bolts. If a head gasket gets torn you can get gasket material at any auto parts store and cut another one. These aren’t Rocket Ships.

You can also include this photo and others of it, with AI and it will very likely be able to tell you EVERYTHING about this unit. Just keep refining your prompts/questions until it returns exactly the information you need.

Think that’s worth doing? I find a ton of pictures and info of ones with a different pump. Very few info on these with the v setup most are the twin cylinder in one

It depends on what your plans are for the compressor. It could be a relatively easy fix. And if it doesn’t work out, like CrustySailor1964 suggests, you can just outright replace the compressor and have a nice little unit.

I had a 3hp single stage version of that compressor. I sold it maybe 15 years ago and occasionally wish I still had it.

Harbor Freight has a couple of 2 cylinder pump options around $150-$180. You could reuse that little manifold or create a new setup.

Think its worth doing? As apposed to buying a cheap new whole unit from HF or temu?

Honestly, no. The new stuff is complete with a warranty and modern safety stuff and perhaps a more efficient motor.

I don’t disagree with any of that, as I pull a cold one out of my 1985 Kenmore refrigerator that has out lived at least 5 of its replacements. 🙂

not really worth it if you dont know what to look for you can tear it apart and see if you see any broken bits .The compressor would only be good for filling some bicycle tires anyways
