If you’re considering getting an AirTag to track the *live location* if anything - stolen belongings, children, etc - please read this.

Apple has been very explicit that this is not a GPS tracker; it is a misplaced item locator. You cannot put an AirTag in a field with no devices nearby and know where it is. It does not independently broadcast its current location. It pings off of nearby Apple devices that can connect to the Internet. So a cellular Apple Watch, iPad, or an iPhone connected to a cellular network(s) will be able to send off an AirTag‘s location in that moment immediately, and other devices that can connect to the Internet later will upload the location it received at the time received it (it tells FindMy that it was at X location 3 hours ago). If you have two AirTags in the field, they will not be able to project out each others’ location. You cannot watch your pet, child, or possession wander away. If you see it moving on the map, it is updating actively based on nearby devices - it is not independently broadcasting its location.

Things AirTags are designed for: - Misplacing your keys in your house - Misplacing your remote in your house - Misplacing your wallet in your house/at work - Misplacing your bag in your house/at work - Your wallet fell out at the restaurant booth and is still there - Remind you that you left your bag that holds your urgent medication (epipens, insulin) at home and you need to go back and get it - Remembering where you parked your car/bike (not for tracking their movement, your iPhone should also remember your car location) - ADDED 2025: Luggage tracking in airports

Things AirTags are not designed for but still work: - Sending a ping to your child’s AirTag to indicate that you can’t find them/don’t see them at a small park/museum and they need to find an adult/return to a pre-agreed upon meeting location - not for seeing their current location

Things AirTags are not good for: - Live tracking living things - children, pets, adults (for people, get them a cellular AppleWatch) - Tracking stolen items - you can’t see its live location and if you have “Left Behind” on, it’s likely not to notify you until the thief is lost in the crowd

I’m glad people have been able to receive stolen animals and items with AirTags, but please don’t come here and get upset when they don’t perform an action they weren’t designed to do. This is akin to getting upset your swimming pool killed your carp. Apple prioritizes anti-stalking measures over theft-prevention with this item, and I agree with that decision because there’s no way to secretly track a thief and not enable stalking. It does this by alerting anyone with a smartphone that they’re being followed after a certain timeframe. Yes, one can take the speaker out so it doesn’t beep - it will still notify them via phone.

AirTag problem

Hi, I just got an AirTag (2nd generation) for my wallet and set it up on my iPad.

In Find My, Show Contact Info is switched On and my phone number is added. I also turned on NFC on my Samsung phone.

I tried holding the back/top of the Samsung directly against both sides of the AirTag, without a phone case, but absolutely nothing happens—no notification or website opens.

Is this normal? Does the AirTag need to actually be marked as lost before a Samsung user can tap it with NFC and see my contact information? Or is there another setting I missed?

Thank yall'

AirTag in car

My mom has an AirTag in our cars, I accepted the AirTag invite and I can see it under my devices. My question is, if I turn off my find my iPhone/location will she still be able to see my location if she has the AirTag in her devices as well? I was planning a small day trip and I just don’t want her to see where I’m going lol

Backpack Tracking

I'm getting my soon to be teen an expensive backpack, that I want to put a tracker inside in case it gets lost. I don't want to deal with it beeping if it's not near its paired phone and I don't want to constantly get notifications if it's moving. If we forget it somewhere, I want to be able to locate it, if it gets lost in camp or school we want to be able to get it back.

(*it's a really expensive religious item in a backpack type case, getting a cheaper bag won't solve the problem)

Unknown AirTag alert keeps generating a "new device" ID every time I move, can't play sound to find it! Help?

I need some help tracking down an unknown AirTag that is somewhere on my car. I think it is somewhere on the outside because there is no sound inside, potentially under the hood or around the passenger side area.

I got the alert yesterday and was able to play the sound last night, but I couldn't find it in the dark. It sat in my garage overnight. Today, the "Find Nearby" function works, but the "Play Sound" button is disabled and just tells me to hold the item near my phone to identify it.

The main issue is that every time my phone detects the AirTag traveling with me, it shows up as a completely different device in the Find My app, even though it's the exact same one. Because my phone thinks it's a brand new device each time, it won't let me trigger the sound till it gets detected to be traveling with me again.

The speaker worked fine last night so it isn't broken. Has anyone dealt with this bug where an unknown tracker refreshes its ID and locks you out of playing the sound? Any workarounds to force it to beep?

Unknown AirTag hidden somewhere near my engine – I can hear it but can’t find it

I have a 2025 Mercedes-AMG E53, and my iPhone detected an AirTag that doesn’t belong to me.
I’ve tried Precision Finding, but it hasn’t been accurate enough to locate it. I can play a sound from the AirTag and clearly hear it coming from somewhere outside the car.
The strange part is that the sound gets significantly louder when I open the hood. It seems to be coming from somewhere underneath the engine, possibly slightly toward the passenger side.
I’ve checked around the wheels and inside the engine compartment, but I can’t find anything even though I can hear it. Interestingly, the sound seems quieter when I listen directly near the wheels.
I’m starting to suspect that someone deliberately placed it there (my brother)
Has anyone experienced something similar? Are there any common hiding spots around the engine, undertray, or frame that I should check? Is there any way to locate it more accurately without taking the car apart?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Come mai ?

AirTag not 'left behind' notifying me.

I managed to get all the way home without my backpack after work last night without a single alert. This happened a few weeks ago too, and I uninstalled and reinstalled the app (as per some solutions I saw on a Google search), and apparently it didn't work. I have a 'no notify' zone which is just my house, and work is not listed as a 'leave behind' zone for any devices.

I'm running the latest iOS on a iPhone15 Pro. Any ideas?

AirTag near me but “unreachable”

I have an item that has an AirTag inside it, but I have lost the item inside my house. The AirTag is working because it lets me know when I leave home that the item was left behind. However, when I try to play a sound it tries for a few seconds and then says “unreachable.” I have also tried to get the live directions towards the AirTag, but it just tells me it can’t find the signal and to move around, and moving around my house doesn’t work. Is there anything I can do except for just scouring the house until I find it? I lose things a lot and use the “play sound” feature all the time on my phone or AirPods when I lose them, so I was surprised that the play sound feature isn’t working on the AirTag.

Problems with AirTag

Hey everyone, I plan to use an airtag as safety feature while I’m travelling alone but not quite sure if it’s a good idea. Have anyone had problems with Airtags? Some Tipps maybe?

Unknown AirTag

So on the 7th we moved and then a day after I got a notification saying an unknown AirTag is with me. I checked it and it showed it moved from the old place to the new place (literally within like 4 minutes from each other) and now at the new place when I’m in my room it says AirTag detected. I assumed it was the upstairs neighbors but why would it go from our old house especially if that was only one floor? Is there a way to disable my location with this AirTag? Plus another one popped up last night, a second generation one. I would like to show it but I don’t want to post the address or house online so yea 😅

Thx for reading and any advice is helpful

Unknown AirTag in Car

There is an unknown AirTag in my mother’s car that I cannot find. She started getting notifications of this unknown AirTag on her iPhone a few months ago. Recently though, she’s been getting the maps of where she’s driven around where we live.

I’ve looked everywhere I can think of, inside and outside the car. None of us own an AirTag and no one else who’s been inside the car has lost one.

At first, I figured it was possibly neighbors or people walking around outside the house, but the multiple maps tell me it’s the car (or something in it).

I’ve tried multiple BLE apps, including Air guard and they are useless. This particular unknown air tag also seems to have had the sound removed, as she’s tried to play sound and we hear nothing. I’ve tried to use precision finding, but that seems to only work on items that have already been added to Find My.

She also just asked a police officer today if they can check the car and they said “they don’t do that”.

We’ve yet to have a mechanic search, but is this the only option? I’m starting to get worried as she thinks it may possibly be an ex-boyfriend. I know AirTags don’t work as GPS, but the owner of it is obviously checking up on it.

Thanks!

Notify when left behind just doesn’t work!

I used the AirTag fine when I first got it. Sat in a drawer and the battery died so changed it and now it seems the notify isn’t working.

I have no location exceptions on (except it keeps turning on automatically an old address of mine which I lived at way before getting the AirTag - this isn’t linked to my Apple account/iPhone in anyway I can see now?!). I don’t think this should be an issue anyway since it is no where near where I am now!

I’ve tried removing and readding the air tag but still just the same issue!

Who the hell puts a tracker on an umbrella

Post image
0 Upvotes

Genuinely curious if anybody does this. My umbrellas stay in one place at home, one place in my car, and one place at work. If it’s not there, it’s in my hand.

Arguably jacket as well, but when was the last time you lost an article of clothing that wasn’t a sock? Am I the outlier here?

Just seems funny that those are there, and not something like “game console” or “lunchbox” at that point. (Also, I understand limiting to emojis from a “simplistic ui” standpoint, but if you’re gonna have that, add a proper wallet emoji?? Not to mention your contacts in Find My are custom images, anyways. Both my car keys and spare car keys are the same emoji, because the only other option is ugly).

Best Wireless GPS - Alternative to JioTag2, JioFind 4G, AirTag, Ajjas Go

I have been using JioTag2 and JioFind 4G for last 6 months and I am disappointed by their location accuracy and customer support and update time interval of location in their app. Since JioTag2 only works if there are suitable established connected devices around it, it is not a true gps tracker. For example, if the device is placed at a remote area then it won't be able to give us its location. JioFind2 however, is a true gps tracker. It does give the location using GPS but I have found the location update to be very slow and inaccurate. For example, say I've place the device in my bike then when the bike starts moving from rest, it takes a lot of time to update its position in the application. This is a deal breaker. The customer support isn't that great either.

So, I started reviewing Ajjas Go and found out that its customer service is even worse than Jio. Some devices start malfunctioning after a few days and some customers got used products. So, I am looking for some better alternatives for a true gps tracker(wireless) for my bike.

PS: I've had one of my bike stolen in the past so I am looking for something that gives accurate result and with less delay. I don't want to use wired gps trackers because my bike is new(I bought it yesterday) so I don't want to open its front part and mess with its wire connections.

Recommendation for bluetooth tracking device

I am looking to buy a tracking device similar to an AirTag, but as an Android user, I need one that works with Android. It should support Google Find My and have either a rechargeable battery or a lithium cell, with a good Bluetooth range. Also, the device should be shareable with multiple mobile phones, at least two or three.

My autistic son sometimes wanders in the park, and I want an extra layer of security so I can locate him if he strays.

Could you recommend a reliable tracking device? I’m not interested in cheaper options because I fear they won’t work. My budget is 5,000–6,000 rupees. I found some good models from uGreen on AliExpress, but the import tax is too high, so I prefer to purchase something from Pakistan.

Issue with air tag beeping when my android is nearby

I joined this subreddit hoping someone might have an answer for me. I am primarily an Android user and I picked up an iPhone 13 and airtag to experiment with for a while. I left the air tag on my keys and when I went back to using my Android I kept getting notified constantly that i was being followed by a tracker.

Out of curiosity I went through the process on my s23 ultra and I used it to beep the air tag to locate it. It worked. Neat. Whatever.

However I now have an unexpected problem. Anytime my s23 is near that air tag is makes a jingle sound. Same tone when I clicked the option to force it to be audible so I could find it.

I tried pulling the battery but it still happens.

How do I get it back to normal and stop doing this behavior? I've researched it and haven't found a solution or any posts similar to my conundrum.

I'm thinking next maybe I need to remove it from my Apple account and reset it and reconnect it maybe? Any ideas?

Findergo AirTag hidden in new truck, fear of being followed, how to disable?

Thumbnail

I bought a new truck a few months ago from a housing estate 200 miles away
Once I got home I got this notification and continue to get it daily.
This truck is highly sought after by thieves and are easy to steal (especially if you have the spare key)
I phoned the previous owner about it and he told me it was somewhere specific (which it wasn’t) and he also said he’d deleted it off his find my so he can’t disable it
It doesn’t have a speaker to listen out for it and it doesn’t have the proximity like a real AirTag does is there anything I can do to disable it?
I’ve searched high and low for it and my insurance refuses to cover me for theft so I’m looking at a 20k loss if he comes back for it
I may sound dramatic but theft is so high in the uk
