TV got delivered to us unusable. Then we found this note attached to a return receipt. Seems like someone already returned it once and then they sent it to us.

Put another note on it and return it for the next buyer.

We have a 7 year old that is currently writing the word "Broken" all over the box šŸ˜‚

That's hilarious and awesome! I have a quick question though, could you not tell that the screen was broken before you mounted it? It just seems so bad that you'd be able to tell that the screen was pretty well smashed, even with the screen off. Just for the record, I mean no disrespect. I'm not calling you blind or stupid or anything. Lol. I'm just curious.

13

u/Good-Pen512 12d ago

Yeah, I appreciate the respectful ask, lots of people in here are just talking shit lol. We already had the mount on the wall for the old TV and the new one is gonna be the same size because the wall is kind of small (55") We basically just lifted it straight out of the box and into the mount, didn't really look at it, and then we realized once it was up. Then we decided to turn it on and see what it looked like but couldn't find the remote for it (it was missing completely) so we started looking through the packaging and then found the note

4

u/Own_Assistance_7659 11d ago

Well, I appreciate the respectful answer. Lol. I figured it was noticeable even with the TV off if you looked closely at it. I've got two TVs with similar damage that I plan on repairing at some point. I hope you get everything taken care of and replaced properly!

3

u/Stonephone 11d ago

I've seen plenty of damaged displays that didn't have any visible damage when not powered on. The layer on the outside ( that you can touch) is more resilient than the emissive layer underneath. They can certainly be damaged to this degree without any immediately visible signs.

1

u/Krimeows 11d ago

First buyer took the remote, returned it. Second buyer received it like this, returned it. You’re the #3: ??? of the 4 steps to PROFIT

1

u/68Postcar 9d ago

Well, if any issue with custers-service, HERE IS YOUR Other receipt. I’d doubt the Amazon-brain would want to see this ā€œbroadcastedā€ akin to ā€œword of mouthā€ an ideal greater-resolution to guarantee you -0 C. Svc blowback. js

2

u/Glad-Living-8587 12d ago

Screen wasn’t smashed. The internal workings of this type of screen can be damaged and it won’t show up until you turn it on.

Sad no Paw Patrol for themšŸ˜‚

5

u/NinJana_Bandana 13d ago

Oh honey, Paw Patrol is for little kids. A 7 year old would be on to at least Muppets or Marvel by now. ;)

3

u/Good-Pen512 12d ago

You nailed it lol. She loves Spider-Man and the X-Men. But also Monster High is the new obsession

1

u/_Nyxari_ 9d ago

If you haven’t already you should give Ever After High a go

2 hours later… the kid is at pre-school and I’m still drinking coffee with a good episode of paw patrol scrolling on the TV!

Beware the "LPN" label on items ordered from Amazon...

15

u/deadly_ultraviolet 14d ago

Wait what is this now? I'm not familiar with the ancient lore

23

u/MKebi 14d ago

It typically indicates a returned item (even though Amazon will say it's more than that). I recently received an item that had the sticker and I returned it with the comment that I paid for a new item but received a used item. It had been visibly opened and re-taped, too.

12

u/TheJessicator 14d ago

If there's an LPN sticker on the box, it means it was previously returned.

5

u/gelattoh_ayy 14d ago

Can some please give a run down of this sticker, what is it, when does it get applied?

5

u/Evergreen-Eyes-4892 14d ago

LPN is short for Licence Plate Number. The sticker includes a code that allows Amazon to track returned items through the process. As I understand it, it's generally stuck on right after returns come off a truck into a warehouse to ensure all returns are counted.

3

u/Kobe_Pup 11d ago

It's "loose product number" is it used for when an item is not with its bigger multi pack or is misplaced from its cubby, (so we don't know who owns it and the asin is damaged so we don't know what seller is selling it) so it is a piece of inventory that is lost in the system and we can't identify where it is supposed to go. It becomes a "loose product" . When a return arrives it isn't a part of a bigger set so it also becomes a "loose product ".

ASIN's are specific to the item, not the seller so if there's 3 sellers for the same item each sellers items are in different bins, so when one asin shows up outside of a bin, who does it belong to? Amazon would have to do a full inventory to find where one is missing, instead they mark it as a loose item, sell it at the average price and when an item in the system turns out it isn't in the bin, they discover that was the loose item, and send you to another, the seller gets paid whatever their price is.

3

u/MKebi 14d ago

3

u/Own_Assistance_7659 12d ago

I wonder if they inspect the returns where the buyer claims they haven't used or opened the product. It would explain why broken, opened or used items seem to have that sticker on them a lot of the time. Amazon taking a customers word for it and shipping an item off to a different customer without verifying that the product is actually unopened would be incredibly lazy, but considering how fast Amazon delivers items, it wouldn't surprise me either. Lol.

1

u/olauson 12d ago

I don't think they inspect the items, at least not initially. I returned an item that came to me in one of those plastic bags. When I tried to return it, it said I needed to send it back in a box so I put it in a box from another item. They initially gave me my money back but then charged me again foe the item. When I called and talked to customer service, they told me that the item I returned was not what I said I was returning. I told them that if they opened the box, they would see the box was not for the item I was returning but I had returned the item I said I was returning. It took several chats and phone calls with customer service reps before I finally got them to understand what happened and to get them to give my money back.

1

u/TheJessicator 12d ago

And this is why it's so important that the instructions say very clearly to remove all stickers on any box or packaging that you are reusing.

1

u/SoftwareGuyDIY 10d ago

"Like... Probably New" - love, Amazon

8

u/BeyondEvolved 14d ago

It's Amazon hot potato. Last one holding the bag loses.

7

u/BeyondEvolved 14d ago

Does that mean "Leased Product Now" and you're supposed to use it for a bit then return it for others? šŸ˜‚

5

u/MKebi 14d ago

🤣 The fact that Amazon resells stuff that's clearly used, broken, and missing pieces sure makes it seem that way.

3

u/CaterpillarLake 12d ago

I bought a large salt lamp from Amazon (3rd party seller), and received a box that had clearly been opened and taped back up more than 8 times. Inside was a lump of pink salt. About the size of my fist. The lamp was supposed to be 60cm tall. There was no lamp fitting, switch or bulb. Just salt. I returned it as instructed but didn’t get refunded. Tried to file a claim and Amazon wanted proof of postage. I sent them the QR / barcode I was sent to scan at the post office. Nope they wanted the receipt. I explained that Amazon returns do not generate a receipt - it’s supposed to be tracked and goes directly to your email / linked to your Amazon account. 8 months later I’m still fighting a pointless battle to get my money back.

2

u/MKebi 12d ago

That's terrible. If you paid by credit card, you can see if your bank will help you out despite the timeframe.

2

u/CaterpillarLake 12d ago

I might try that! It wasn’t a lot of money but it feels like the principal now tbh!!

1

u/Sparkle2023 10d ago

I request a receipt from the PO when I drop off returns or any other shipped item that’s pre-paid. I’m sorry this happened to you.

1

u/CaterpillarLake 10d ago

I’ve tried 3 different post offices and they all say the same thing, that they can’t produce a receipt for Amazon returns. I dropped something off today and asked to take a photo of the parcel with the label on it as I figure that’s the only proof I can get

2

u/BeyondEvolved 10d ago

Really? Every Staples, UPS Store, Kohls etc that I drop off Amazon returns to gives me a receipt. Maybe try any of those locations instead of the PO if you can. I think the workers just don't know or want to do it because of course there's a record of reception, that's how they know they need to do something with it. They don't just throw it in a bin and pray that it magically finds its way to where it needs to go.

1

u/CaterpillarLake 10d ago

It’s weird that other people are getting receipts but none of my drop off shops give receipts. I will have to see what options there are other than post office returns

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Sparkle2023 10d ago

That’s so strange. Are you printing out a prepaid label and taping it to your box? When I’ve done that for any return the PO gives me a receipt. If I’ve elected bringing it to another Amazon returns place and don’t need to box it- they place my item in a bag after scanning it and they’re still giving me a receipt. How frustrating for you.

1

u/CaterpillarLake 10d ago

I don’t have a printer so I choose the post office drop off option and I have to take the item to the shop with no packaging or box as they scan the item barcode. They say the receipt goes to my email automatically and there’s no facility to print any kind of receipt. I’ve only ever had a problem twice - that time with the salt lamp and another time when a seller sent me completely the wrong item. It’s always when it’s a 3rd party seller return that causes issues.

3

u/IKMNification 14d ago

Definitely this.

I’ve got a feeling now Amazon slaps it onto a return and they don’t check the return. More efficient for the next customer to get it and asses if it’s all there.

They’d definitely have the data on what percent of customers find the returned product ā€œunsatisfactoryā€ and can easily run the numbers to see if this process is cost saving.

I worked at a place that sold returned items and very few items were broken/damaged but to be fair, we never got a TV in šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

2

u/Sinister_Nibs 13d ago

If you want to look at Amazon returns, check out NellisAuction.com almost everything they sell is returns.
Screens (tvs, monitors) do not fare very well to Amazon’s gentle delivery ministrations.

1

u/physicistbowler 12d ago

I got an LPN package with greasy earbuds inside. Not very fun...

31

u/Computers_and_cats 14d ago

Typical Amazon. Send the returned or broken item out to another customer a couple times before they realize it is trash rather than paying people to inspect and verify returned items.

3

u/BeyondEvolved 14d ago

Well would you prefer the AI robots repair their smaller less intelligent brethren and start the robot uprising?

29

u/Maichic6 15d ago

Is Amazon a glorified thrift shop that isn't actually cheap, but no one can fix the cutthroat faulty goods laundering?

2

u/tt53_sb45 12d ago

With shitty privacy policy the contracted delivery drives have to enforce while being underpaid and not getting benefits through them because they aren't actual employees so Amazon doesn't have to pay that expense

26

u/SofaKingAwezome 14d ago

WHY DID YOU MOUNT IT LOL

7

Got to love good ole Amazon. Allowing every shitty vendor on their site & never checking in on any of them. Most electronics sold on there are not even safe in the US & are a fire hazard. Amazon is SUPPOSED to require UL or ETL listings on electronics but many vendors don’t have them

2

u/Sensitive_Whereas_51 14d ago

Former subrogation attorney here. Even the approved stuff is a fire risk if theres no quality control. For example, I hate a lot of fire cases caused by DeLonghi oil-filled radiators.

1

u/mm3873 14d ago

Thanx for the tip

1

u/Zealousideal_Age2576 12d ago

Ok now I’m nervous I have one of those I was about to wheel out to use. I’ve used it one winter so far. It’s a replacement though, my first one smelled of oil after a year of use and they sent me a new one.

1

u/Sensitive_Whereas_51 12d ago

I had two DeLonghis when I had my first radiator fire case. I'm cheap so I kept them but made sure they were unplugged whenever I was out or asleep.

Chinese QC is odd, they seem to accept failure and replacement if it makes manufacturing cheaper. I had a client who made remote controls. Factory in China would ship 115% of the contracted amount to account for bad boards/failures. They sent the extras on every single shipment.

1

u/Zealousideal_Age2576 12d ago

I was hoping to use it for just that. I’ve been having furnace issues where the fan doesn’t turn on in auto mode so this was going to be my backup to keep my pipes from freezing but I guess I’ll just leave the fan on if necessary! Thanks!😊

1

u/NY2RF 13d ago

You have no obligation to deal with Amazon. You can get screens at Best Buy, and a dozen big box stores. Their prices are often lower than Amazon.

1

u/BCMUNS-54 13d ago

Best Buy is a junk business too.

2

u/SeniorPie5786 12d ago

You are right. And their 15-day return policy is a joke. They count return time from date of order. I bought a heated back relaxer that took 6 days to be deliver. Eight days later it quit heating and my return date expired even though I’d only had it in my possession 8 days.

1

u/ElegantChocolate7567 11d ago

I go to local stores. Oftentimes they will meet the cheaper price if you discuss the situation with them aka haggling. šŸ˜

7

u/HR_Duff_N_Stuff 14d ago

Heh, yeah, this re-shrink-wrap-damaged-returns hooey was a signature move for Fry’s Electronics, the now defunct mass electronics retail chain. You’d find manuals covered in highlight or photocopied from another manual, jumpers missing, lots of DOA. I took to slipping notes line that into the boxes when I had to return stuff. It was clear their biz model depended on a lot of people just not wanting to deal with the hassle of their odious return processes and sucking up the busted gear.

1

u/physicistbowler 12d ago

Actually going in to Fry's was a lot of fun though!

5

The volume of these kinds of stories make me think I will never buy a tv/monitor/laptop from amazon.

2

u/GuitarCFD 12d ago

I have seriously never had a single issue this serious. The few issues I have had. Amazon addressed immediately.

1

u/tweetsfortwitsandtwa 10d ago

I think it’s a problem of scale, freaking everybody uses Amazon thus there’s a crap ton of delivery people, so of course there’s gonna be some freaking smooth brains that get mixed in. And then there’s a ton of support people so there’s gonna be some smooth brains there too

1

u/Yoda_runner_26 13d ago

Never buy any tv online FedEx and ups like play football with them lmfao

1

u/SeniorPie5786 12d ago

I bought a 65ā€ Sony from Amazon and free delivery and set up (a special). It didn’t come to my home FEDEX or UPS. It was delivered by the two guys that unboxed it, added the ā€˜legs’ to it and tested it to make sure it worked correctly. That was February 2025. I wouldn’t have ordered from Amazon but same tv was $200 more at Best Buy plus another charge of over $100 for delivery and set up.

1

u/Probablynj 10d ago

I would never trust any delivery company over me going to the store and picking up a tv. There are just some things I don't order.

1

u/gizzard1987_ 10d ago edited 9d ago

I ordered my laptop from Amazon and everything came in great but OEM packaging on Asus stuff is far superior to that of most common TVs. My laptop came in, in the OEM box, over packaged with squishy foam, not the white crumbly stuff. Then it was wrapped in tubular bubble wrap around the OEM box and placed inside a larger box. That box was inside of an Amazon box with a couple pieces of brown paper wadded up in the corner.

1

u/CurlyQ86 9d ago

I had the same experience when I ordered an ASUS laptop from them last year. I opened the first box and was a little nervous, but then opened the second one and felt better. I wish more companies would take notes from ASUS for packing. My laptop still works great!

1

u/No_Wonder_4976 10d ago

Hopefully the 34ā€ monitor arriving tomorrow is pristine. I’ve been lucky so far with Amazon.

2

u/OrganizationLow7842 12d ago

Damn that thing is trash level defective. Amazon is getting shittier and shittier with AI running things.

2

u/Kitchen-Bagel-Burnt 12d ago

lol I guess no one checks the merchandise in the boxes

2

u/YooprJER1975 12d ago

I am willing to bet there is someone or multiple people who know that TV is damaged. Unfortunately, you ran into the "Lazy Train" and no one was honest enough to do the right thing...bummer...

2

u/Curious_Beaner 12d ago

Couple of years ago ordered a robot vacuum. It was delivered complete, including a collection bin full of someone else’s dirt! (Still feel violated and filthy! šŸ˜‚ Sent it back!)

1

u/dani_pavlov 14d ago

Like the time I bought "new" printer drums for our laserjet and they came unwrapped and retaped in the box, seals all broken, and the prints all washed out.

I imagine the previous buyer bought new drums, repackaged their throwaway old ones and returned them under warranty. Not a bad strategy, since they'll send the refund as soon as UPS marks them as shipped..

1

u/HudsonGuy23 14d ago

Not surprised similar has happened to me with other items.

1

u/DexterTheInspector 14d ago

I got a "new" box of Dollar Shave Club razors and handle...complete with hair, soap scum and God knows what biohazards were in there. It was repackaged in a plastic bag with a preprinted label on the plastic..."READY TO SHIP".

1

u/SecretPut4586 14d ago

They are legally not allowed to do this. But….they do it all the time.

1

u/Pleasant_Elephant340 14d ago

Oh, NO! You gotta be kidding!

1

u/Scythe5150 14d ago

I've also received used stuff from Amazon. I rarely use them. Electronics, I'll either get or order from best buy. Everything else can be had from other places, like Walmart or Target. You can return their stuff directly to the store.

1

u/Adept_Debt466 14d ago

Movie Tron?

1

u/LockWooden6435 13d ago

I got a two pack of screen protectors that had obviously been opened before and both were busted... won't just refund of course nope I have to go pretty far. More in gas than it's worth.

1

u/becauseihave 12d ago

I always call customer service and demand they send UPS to pick the item up.

I received a clearly used medical boot (it was even still in the return bag). I told CS that I paid for a new medical device (something that should never be resold) and received something that was used, they needed to have UPS come pick it up. UPS was here the next day.

1

Ordered a box of new lug nuts from Amazon. Supposed to be ten in the box. Received it, and there were four greasy lug nuts. Yeah, something happened before I got it.

1

u/TheWeimLady 13d ago

I ordered a coffeemaker once. Brand new supposedly not refurbished, it had dried coffee in the pot clearly used and returned

1

u/Healthsmart-406 13d ago

This is happening a lot with Amazon!!!! I bought an iPad case and keyboard and it was used and not working. You could see the fingerprints all over it. There was parts of the packaging. We're missing. We need to address this. They're really trying to post stuff over the American people like everything else.

1

u/motherfudgersob 12d ago

I had Amazon drivers leave a TV on my porch WHILE it was raining...then one upside down....then one leaned against the front door so when I opened it the TV fell on me. They really sorta auck.

1

u/Think_Ad1861 12d ago

Couple weeks ago I opened my porch door and stepped down and boom stepped on a box placed on the 2nd step, which is the first step going down. Step on the corner of the box and stumbled down. I was lucky my car stopped me from stumbling into the street. But wtf they are waiting for a lawsuit.

1

u/motherfudgersob 11d ago

Oh they've delivered to behind my car where I wouldnt see it.

1

u/catsfromjapan 10d ago

Why do they even lean things against the door? That often makes it next to impossible to open the door without tipping the package to the ground.

1

u/motherfudgersob 9d ago

And that's what happened with a 65" TV. And they had a photograph. Comedy of errors.

1

u/WRISTDeeeep68 12d ago

That’s why you never buy anything electronic or halfway expensive from Amazon. The electronics they sell a lot don’t pass final inspection that is how they are able to sell so cheap. Of course they never tell the customer that. I bought a JS9500 Samsung awhile back and the one connect box was completely different than what it was supposed to be. Had a different chip in it come to find out. Was brand new they told me.

1

u/Fantastic-Mix-2223 12d ago

Use a white or silver sharpie on the back of the TV itself that says "screen defective". That way if the box is "lost" it's still visible.

1

u/Wade-KC 12d ago

I had a water cooler like that great deal like new in box from Walmart. Pretty sure it had been to several people and fallen off several trucks lol

1

u/spetrilli 12d ago

A Reddit forum for professional victims. You can easily contact Amazon and have the broken/defective item returned and replaced, unless of course you have a pattern of ordering and returning such items.

As far as the rest of the complainers, you need to resolve your serious case of cranial/posterior impaction… I.e. get your head out of your butt.

1

u/Dismal-Energy-9817 12d ago

Buyer beware!

1

u/Reyndtr 12d ago

Oh no! Really Amazon.

1

u/Leading-Date8819 12d ago

Break up with Amazon. It's not that bad. Promise.

1

u/Shane4255 12d ago

Same.?

1

u/Coolbrazz 12d ago

Amazon is pretty good on most returns depending on a 3rd party seller. Sometimes on returns shipping back to the original seller you have to pay for return shipping. Also, the last customer should have indicated on the return request that the unit was damaged.

1

u/Caliteacher66 12d ago

I have to say it. If you want specific delivery instructions you can put it on every order. Placement or to leave it near the porch….. it’s right on the order form /screen. I mean šŸ’šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

1

u/Prometheus2061 12d ago

I haven’t used Amazon in two years because of stuff like this. And the truth of the matter is, I don’t miss it.

1

u/Navi818 12d ago

So what do you use?

1

u/Prometheus2061 12d ago

I just go to a store and buy things. Amazon was charging me for my prime membership, for looking at movies, and then for all the useless crap my wife would order on a daily basis. We don’t really need half the stuff we buy online. We’re just seeking endorphins from the pleasure of acquisition. I’ve been trying to live more simple life.

1

u/New_Reward_4214 10d ago

How did your wife feel about your decision that you would both live more simply?

1

u/Prometheus2061 10d ago

I moved out of the house. LOL. We’re still friends. It’s complicated.

1

u/LuckyRoll1948 12d ago

How many times and different threads are you going to post this?

1

u/ThaBronze 12d ago

Similar story, better ending.

I ordered a ShopVac. It arrived with a couple broken pieces; mainly the attachment mounting piece. I sent it back via the UPS Store. Amazon sent an immediate replacement, which of course also had a bit of damage (packaging issue on ShopVac's part). I decided to live with it. About a month later, another ShopVac shows up; same model. I'm not sure why, but I opened it (probably just to see if my odds of receiving an undamaged unit had gone up); also damaged. Oddly, damaged in just about the exact same way as the first one I'd received. In fact, EXACTLY like the first one. The UPS Store had failed to black out or cover up the original shipping label, so they delivered back to me. Two slightly damaged vacs for the price of one.

1

u/Opposite-Exam-7249 12d ago

I’ve actually had it happen to me. It wasn’t a TV but another piece of furniture. I returned it because it was chipped. I ordered a new one and they brought me back the same exact piece.

I just got a dresser that came to me with a damaged box and the top shelf was literally broken in half. Took a half a day with arguing with amazon to get a replacement sent and then come get the damaged one.

Got the new one a few days later and realized the first one was definitely a return. It was missing items and packed all crazy.

Gotta start checking shit

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 11d ago

On the bright side, you can make a modern art painting out of it.

1

u/Mx5-gleneagles 11d ago

This is how you can afford to have a space program!!!

u/Resident_Signal9083 11d ago

I’d complain directly to Amazon- I ordered some bowling shoes ( I know- not a TV) and they we’re CLEARLY used- bottoms scuffed- smelly- complained, they sent new NEW ones, paid return shipping…

WROTE ā€œUSED, do not resellā€ on box . The warehouse people don’t know what’s wrong or if anything wrong with a box that showed up…probably they scan the SKU and put it with the others

1

u/Mysterious_Can_6106 11d ago

The way the not reads it makes me wonder if you are the second person this tv was sent too.

I just received an order with the safety seal removed, I was inside the box, and the product lid had dried crusty lotion on it. I threw it away, contacted Amazon for a replacement… then they said send the opened one back. When I told them it was opened and had dried crusty lotion on the lid, they said if I didn’t return it I would be charged for the replacement 😳 I was like WTF!?! Now I have to pay for gas to fix your mistake. Not that I really care about gas, it’s just the point.

Amazon has really gone downhill!! It’s sad, it used to be convenient until they went downhill and killing small businesses 😢

u/ssp2109 11d ago

Wow!!! Do better, Bezos!

1

u/Apprehensive-Ear-798 11d ago

Frustrating, but these things happen. You can’t even call it human error because it’s part of returning things like this. They WILL be missed from time to time through logistics. They will make it right. Just sucks that you have to experience the wait for the replacement as well as the headache. Should’ve went to Best Buy

1

u/FantasticClothes8215 11d ago

That’s art!

u/Rare_Slice420 11d ago

Seven year old still loves Paw Patrol when no one else sees him.

1

u/iFlickDaBean 11d ago

I bought two "used/open package" lawnmower belts... one had been put on and run maybe for a single yard cut (i can live with that).. the other one looked like it went through a blender. It had to be several years old... like who in the fuck grades this stuff? Stevie Wonder could have even felt the belt and went, nah this is chewed.

u/XtaMarie2121 11d ago

Saves you the trouble of having to write a note.

u/Traditional_Tailor71 11d ago

I've received used/returned items from Amazon. There's a particular sticker, long and rectangular that is placed on returned items. I always look for it when I receive Amazon orders. I'm sure they know they're filling the order with a used item. I guess they hope we're just dumb and don't figure it out.

1

u/jbravouk 11d ago

Was this from Amazon warehouse? I only ask because they often state that items may be damaged etc. Even so, damaged and outright not working are totally different things.

Keep us updated.

1

u/CobrasFumanches 11d ago

Holy shit, whenever I see that Amazon warning "frequently returned item" I'm going to assume it's all the same one.

1

u/Medfieldmike 11d ago

Gee I hear a little derangement syndrome in the conversation. That's the problem with our society. This situation have it has absolutely nothing to do with consumer protection. Screwing up there return process. But it's as simple as that and politics once again, don't belong in the conversation.

1

u/marhaus1 11d ago

Yes, that's exactly what happened. When you handle millions of orders a few mistakes will happen. Just contact the seller and tell them what happened, they will sort it for you.

1

u/ThinkWishbone2495 11d ago

Unfortunately this is extremely common. There's a whole industry in buying pallets of returned items from Amazon then people go and resell them back on Amazon again as new. You can get Amazon returned items at Staples as well who have whole bins for them with a sliding scale discounted % off depending on how long an item has remained there. And Amazon will resell those for the person who repackages the items up and lists them back on the buying platform. Amazon is usually a 3rd party seller. I don't know how to tell if we're buying a piece of returned crap vs a new item.

u/holeintheheadBryan 11d ago

Happened to us, twice with 2 different 70 inch test! First was a Visio, we went with a more expensive Samsung the second and third time, because the first (second tv was like that)

1

u/Cookie-Monster-Pro 11d ago

made a phone wallpaper with that f’d up screen glitch

1

u/Appropriate_Scar1517 11d ago

What company sold it to you ?

1

u/Blind_Voyeur 11d ago

I got a open box 'mint condition' Celestron binoculars that had a pair of used Vivitar binoculars inside.

1

u/LesbianHomesteaders 11d ago

I have received more returned broken items from Amazon then I can count over the last couple of years. It's absolutely ridiculous. Because of this I always write broken in Sharpie right next to the UPC when I return a defective item. Just trying to help out the next person.

1

u/tonytester 11d ago

As an appliance repair person , I’ve found after looking up the serial number many items that have been returned and resold.

1

u/its_jenga 11d ago

I see this happening constantly lately. I went through it a few months back. Done buying electronics from them.

1

u/veryjudgely 11d ago

Crazy is as crazy does.

1

u/Delicious_Fix3497 11d ago

I bought what I thought was a brand new tv from Best Buy. As they were helping me load in my SUV I could see that the bottom flaps had been loosely taped.
Damn, you just get this back on the cart. Wheeled that right back into the store to get my money back.
Idiot at the customer service counter was trying to say I did that. WTF people. Your store employee saw it plain as day and I want it refunded.
Still had to wait 15 for a manager to approve the return.
Whatever Best Buy! You didn’t scam me you shady bunch of cowards.

1

u/flamingolashlounge 11d ago

Why does it look like my mom wrote that note?! 🧐 Like that's her handwriting EXACTLY

1

u/Mean_Capital1625 11d ago

They don’t check items that come back for returns. They just restock it and send it back out

1

u/timdavis130 11d ago

I bought a webcam from Amazon recently. They sent me 4 before they managed to send an u open, working complete new camera.

1

u/Squables0_o 11d ago

Happened to me in 2014.

Plugged it in and the screen was wonky.

Brought it back, the shop said it must have been our fault. Then I overheard one guy whispering to another about it possibly being one of their defective batch that was supose to go back to the manufacturer. I caught one of them trying to peel a red sticker off the box. The sticker was for the defective ones.

There were some apologies and a new TV that we made them turn on to test before we left the shop. Its still my main TV today, it just last month stopped getting updates fot streaming services so I had to get a fire stick.

1

u/Ding-Dawn 11d ago

My husband got some work boots that were used. Could tell immediately.

1

u/Nortisan 10d ago

So, you didn't notice that there was huge physical crack in the screen in the process of mounting it??

1

u/Either-Bumblebee9878 10d ago

That's the new deconstructed, geometric abstract art edition of your tv.. very nice upgrade! 🤣

1

u/CanadianDiver 10d ago

I do this. If i am expecting new and get something obviously used (not just opened) I will write on the object that it has been returned at least twice ...

1

u/KiwiCaptainRex 10d ago

Write a note on the outside of the box when you return it. Bold letters FAULTY

1

u/ArendTerence 10d ago

Ouch!!!!@&//%!

1

u/Green_Rabbit-1234 10d ago edited 10d ago

I bought a pair of pants that came clearly used. When I returned them, I hid a note inside of them, to let the next recipient know they’ve already been returned twice.

ETA: dead skin flakes. That’s how I know they were used.

1

u/atouk_zug 10d ago

Modern art Screensaver. I think that one is hanging in the Guggenheim.

1

u/adameniscus 10d ago

Some of you speak as though you still believe a human even looked at this, and then made the conscious decision to reship it. This has the hallmarks of return infrastructure technology fuck up. At least give credit where credit is due.

1

u/AtriceMC 10d ago

Ah, Scamazon. How I loathe thee.

1

u/WenDeckerstArt 10d ago

That is rage-inducing!!

1

u/BobcatALR 10d ago

They do this shit all the time. If the original repackaged it well, it just goes back on the shelf to be picked for another order. Sometimes, for smaller stuff, they put it in a plastic bag labeled with the name, stock number, and the word ā€œnewā€. I hate it when they send ā€œopen boxā€ in place of new without explicitly stating the product isnt new at purchase, and I return it every damned time they do it. I paid for new; not used.

1

u/1inf3rn0 10d ago

Believe it or not, straight to jail...for that kind of issue, I would report it directly to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or contact my state's Attorney General's office. They are the ones who handle malicious sales tactics like selling used gear as new and can actually investigate the merchant.

1

u/catballou1962 10d ago

Bezos consumer warranty plan! šŸ˜†

1

u/Silver-Quilter-6901 10d ago

Mark up the box so that they can’t just tape it shut and re-ship it out to someone else again. Write defective with a sharpie in big letters.

1

u/HobbyTerror 10d ago

They did that to me with something else. I put a note on the box explaining that the item had been changed out for something else and they said just remove the note. There's no option in returns to explain that. šŸ˜’

1

u/Probablynj 10d ago

Nice! šŸ‘šŸ»

1

u/alephylaxis 10d ago

Double it and give it to the next person

1

u/Tucsonbabe1948 10d ago

Zowie!!!!. I hope you can return!

1

u/Warm-Mousse9157 10d ago

Nah screens all cracked and smacked looks like video game abuse

1

u/Outrageous_Trick_469 10d ago

This happens all the time. I have personally experienced it myself. It’s aggravating having to waste your time packing it back up and ship it back.

1

u/68Postcar 9d ago

Be best to just call Bezos, serious.

1

u/herblady99 9d ago

must have been me, I returned two in 10 days, almost with the same issue, screen of dead.

1

u/SlankJim 9d ago

I just had the similar thing happen to me. I ordered a new office chair for my home office. When it was delivered, the contents of the box was a used chair. Someone ordered the same model chair I did, put their used chair in the box and then returned it to Amazon. And Amazon didn’t even check what was returned, they just sent it to me

u/Possible-Gur-9352 8d ago

Best Buy or Amazon?
