Not only was that cap invented in Maryland, it’s a mandate by the EU that made it required. Can’t really call an innovation revolutionary when it’s put onto you at gunpoint

131

u/IanCrapReport 16h ago

USA innovates, EU regulates

-29

u/reserveduitser 🇳🇱 Nederland 🌷🚲 10h ago

EU still innovates a lot though.

33

u/Hole_thinker 9h ago

It’s a very bad investment environment though.

-13

u/HarrMada 5h ago

That's probably not even true, and that wasn't the claim to begin with.

•

u/SampleText369 48m ago

It's absolutely unequivocally correct and economic stagnation and a poor investing environment are massively detrimental to innovation

-20

u/HarrMada 5h ago

Which is completely false. The US is #3 in the innovation index behind two European countries.

10

u/ilikepie901 3h ago

so 3rd place is the same as not even worth mentioning to you?

-8

u/HarrMada 3h ago

Of course not, I never said that. But that quote is a completely false explanation of anything, and has never been true. It's usually combined with "... and China replicates" which is even more false. It's a lie Americans tell themselves to feel better.

8

u/ilikepie901 3h ago

i looked it up and the us is only behind by less than a point to sweden. meanwhile china is at the tenth spot. what is the point of bringing that up when the stats are pretty close to that saying being true?

-1

u/HarrMada 3h ago

Because it's not true, not even close to being true. I don't know who hurt you, because it's really not that hard to understand.

6

u/ilikepie901 3h ago

the stats do infact indicate it to being close to true, like i just laid out.

1

u/HarrMada 3h ago

Not at all. It does not indicate that America innovates and EU regulates. Nothing is that simple, completely false, you should try again.

4

u/ilikepie901 3h ago

ok so then what does it indicate?

•

u/SampleText369 46m ago

The innovation index is effectively by capital and the US absolutely dwarfs Sweden, Switzerland, and even the EU as a whole

8

u/Feelinglucky2 14h ago

Its also on every bottle of water from work i get so idk

8

u/Large-Profession3490 9h ago

Yeah this meme is in fact showing that while europe enforces shit stuff in the US they do cool stuff. So I don’t get why it was posted here

•

u/Gaelhelemar VIRGINIA 🕊️🏕️🪵 2h ago

The sub also allows AmericaGood to be posted, so an example of that maybe.

•

u/Large-Profession3490 2h ago

oh didn't know that my bad

35

u/Cowslayer369 9h ago

From my EU PoV, this has one of the most stupid EU 'green' policies and an extremely cool prototype of a flying car

26

u/U-seru 6h ago

Also the Germans avoiding Nuclear power by the green party and instead opting for dirtier energy sources is wack.

-7

u/HarrMada 5h ago

That's over now, they have established a very good renewable fleet of electricity production and they are expanding it, the nuclear stuff just made the transition not as smooth as it could have been.

2

u/mrbobcyndaquil OHIO 👨‍🌾 🌰 4h ago

As an Ohioan I see them both to be completely stupid

5

u/Sleazis_McSlutthead FLORIDA 🍊🐊 4h ago

Agreed. This is just a stupid gimmick to hype up stupid people (investors). There's nothing innovative at all. It's 40-year-old space shuttle technology and compressed air. It's just, "here, look at this shit. gimme money."

•

u/BedFastSky12345 NORTH CAROLINA 🛩️ 🌅 2h ago

Also a 0% chance that the mass public could ever be trusted with that

•

u/Greedy-Employment917 2h ago

When you are objectively unable to tell what's cool or fun anymore because your mind is so polluted by political bullshit.

-4

u/HarrMada 5h ago

No it's good. I'm thankful for them every day because it draws out the adult-children in society. They are better, grow up.

17

u/SOwED 14h ago

It's irrelevant because recycling is mostly a scam.

9

u/Initial-Reading-2775 11h ago

That’s a super relevant invention, so that cap wouldn’t fall and get lost in parallel dimensions under the seat.

-1

u/HarrMada 5h ago

It definitely isn't.

7

u/Royal-Masterpiece-82 3h ago

•

u/Cryorm USA MILTARY VETERAN 2h ago

There is a reason why the first two parts is "Reduce, Reuse" in the saying. Recycling is just offloading rich countries' trash to poor countries.

50

u/RueUchiha IDAHO 🥔⛰️🐏 14h ago

Idk why people don’t think the car is anything but cool.

Impractical? Probably. But it’s a step towards getting a flying car that is practical. A proof of concept if you will.

The engineers at SpaceX/Tesla should be proud of themselves.

37

u/Super-G1mp 13h ago

Bro the mfs on the road now can't even figure out a blinker you think they also need 360 degrees to worry about?

Edit: idk a literal sphere in space idk what to call it. I don't even know what to call that I don't need to have access to it.

21

u/QuarterNote44 CALIFORNIA🍷🎞️ 13h ago

It's super cool. Those guys are like, eleventy hundred orders of magnitude better at engineering than I will ever be. I also don't really want the people I see driving on the ground to be able to fly.

10

u/RaptorSpade1296 TEXAS 🐴⭐🥩 12h ago

Flying cars are probably a bad idea, but I could see a flying ambulance being an amazing thing. This or EVToLs could be used to fly passed traffic to save peoples lives in minutes. Not to mention the pilots and EMTs would be well trained enough to fly it.

4

u/snickelbetches 8h ago

Careflight

1

u/Maheemz 3h ago

Air ambulances are already a thing, flying ambulances would be a poor investment, not to mention use of stability when it comes to a 4 tonne vehicle that has to remain stable for trauma victims

-2

u/iddqd-gm 9h ago

Ambulances and rich people who can efford it. Future is nice... To the 1%

9

u/Zingzing_Jr 6h ago

The future starts for the 1% first. Refrigeration, TV, plumbing, and cars used to be 1% devices. It'll get there.

7

u/Xepeyon 10h ago

It's because it's Musk. That's literally it. The guy could develop a cure for pancreatic cancer, and people would find a way to hate it.

1

u/cnylkew 🇫🇮 Suomi 🦌 9h ago

But he wouldn't though

•

u/Greedy-Employment917 2h ago

And you wouldn't either.

7

u/j48u 7h ago

Right, he just has an entire company that is close to allowing paralyzed people to walk and in the meantime they can control video games directly from their brain in a hospital bed. I'm sure he'll never be involved in curing anything with a trillion dollars of AI compute either.

1

u/cnylkew 🇫🇮 Suomi 🦌 7h ago

Quite a wall of text just to say you agree

-5

u/lankyevilme 7h ago

No, his skillset is not in medicine.  He will advance our species in space exploration.

-2

u/cnylkew 🇫🇮 Suomi 🦌 7h ago

Yes, so you agree.

•

u/spanko_at_large 22m ago

Wow very specific form of cancer lol

•

u/RueUchiha IDAHO 🥔⛰️🐏 1h ago

Yeah I figured. I am generally ambivalent/dislike Musk, I think he’s wierd. But I do kinda respect him for putting his vast sums of money towards things he believes in and tries to innovate in those fields he is interested in; personal opinions of him and his opinions aside, it is not something I see a lot of billionares with the resourses to make a difference lead the charge on.

As much as people wouldn’t want to admit it - while he may not have the mind to make stuff like the flying car happen, it’s his money and general hyperfixations that gathers and enables the people that do have the mind for this kind of thing to actually innovate and get shit done, and I do think Musk deserves credit for that at least.

1

u/Firestar_119 MARYLAND 🌬️🦀🚢 12h ago

the actual problem isn't the tech, it's that a functional prototype of the entire car hasn't been made yet

•

u/Scrappy1918 1h ago

Not trying to be a dick, but what do they call that?

•

u/Firestar_119 MARYLAND 🌬️🦀🚢 0m ago

the proof of concept that they made is for the control system, not a car that can also fly

3

u/Diamantis13 13h ago

I think it’s BS, I’ll believe it when I see Elon driving it. This looked fake asf.

•

u/spanko_at_large 23m ago

Agreed on the cool but I wouldn’t look at it as a step towards getting actual flying cars

5

u/Ok_Fail_3058 AMERICAN 🏈🏒 💵🗽🍔 ⚾️ 🦅📈 11h ago

Yeah, but people just hate on everything Elon Musk does at this point because he dares to support Trump and the right.

2

u/CosmicNest IOWA 🚜 🌽 7h ago

I think him over promising and under achieving plus what you said are all causes of concern.

2

u/Maheemz 3h ago

In what way would flying cars be practical? people can barely drive in 2 dimensions, nevermind 3

•

u/Embarrassed-Top6449 44m ago

Considering the same company also kinda pioneered consumer autonomous driving...

1

u/Futuredanish USA MILTARY VETERAN 3h ago

There are people out there that if their ideological opponents cured cancer they would disavow it.

•

u/Embarrassed-Top6449 42m ago

I still remember all the people who went from "I'd never take any vaccine promoted by this administration" to wanting to mandate its use.

•

u/tim123113 NEVADA 🎲 🎰 1h ago

we already HAVE practical flying cars. they're called helicopters.

plus, either way you're gonna need a pilot's licence before the FAA will let you take one up

17

u/NowAlexYT 10h ago

As a european: this is not america bad. We hate the cap, we wish it wasnt mandated, wed pay for it to go away. You can have the damn cap if you really want

3

u/HarrMada 5h ago

We hate the cap

factually incorrect. Normal people are fine with it.

6

u/Maheemz 3h ago

These people apparently are incapable of turning a bottle slightly

2

u/cnylkew 🇫🇮 Suomi 🦌 9h ago

Don't speak on my behalf

1

u/FrogsMadeMeSmile 4h ago

I rly dont get how people are this annoyed by the caps. Like are you 5? Are you too debilitated, too whiny? What is it?

•

u/BoringPudding3986 1h ago

If it has any kind of positive environmental impact conservatives will cry about it being too woke

•

u/AmericanCaesar5 AMERICAN 🏈🏒 💵🗽🍔 ⚾️ 🦅📈 2h ago

Regardless if flying cars will ever come to be, this is a very impressive display of using fans as suction to keep an object attached to a surface while upside down and using pressurized air as a means of mid air stabilization and slowing descent. Both of those can be applied to things besides cars, so even if you think the idea of flying cars are stupid you should still be happy of the individual parts that made up this flying car display

5

u/OnePlusFanBoi CALIFORNIA🍷🎞️ 14h ago

I think we know who the real winner is here.

-3

u/HarrMada 5h ago

Totally "Congrats America you get a car that a couple of billionaires will buy and nothing else!"

•

u/Tom02496 🇨🇦 Canada 🍁 1h ago

Who cares about this car only being owned by wealthy people? Maybe look at the model Y which was the world's best-selling car for more than one year. It was even the best selling car in Europe before Europeans went broke. Now it's like a Dacia or something for 10000$ 😭

•

u/HarrMada 1h ago

Bait used to be believable. Who do you think I am lol? No one will bite that stuff.

•

u/Tom02496 🇨🇦 Canada 🍁 1h ago

Dude what I'm saying isn't wrong 🤣 all Tesla's before the roadster are "normal" cars that can be owned by regular people. The model Y WAS the best selling car for at least 2 different years from what I remember. Why does it matter if they have one high performance car?? There's nothing wrong with it. A 10000$ Dacia is now the best selling car in Europe. That's also not a lie. Europeans have gotten poorer if it's dropped from a ~50000$ Tesla to that.

-1

u/LividAir755 PENNSYLVANIA 🍫📜🔔 12h ago

The cap is lame, and the car is probably fake. Musk has never done anything but scam retarded investors, I have a serious doubt that he will start making anything other than something that will scam retarded investors.

1

u/reserveduitser 🇳🇱 Nederland 🌷🚲 10h ago edited 9h ago

I like the cap now I don’t have to hold it. Not that it was a big problem but still. The problem is that most people aren’t smart enough to pull it loose a bit more so that it doesn’t get as much in your face when you drink.

•

u/vaarsuv1us 🇳🇱 Nederland 🌷🚲 2h ago

drinking from a bottle is vulgar anyway, my grandmother would say. you are supposed to pour it in a glass!

-1

u/Ziggarot 11h ago

No shit. This is all for show and that’s how they are with Tesla. They’re flashy

-2

u/Shenendoah66 7h ago

Say it one more time. lol

•

u/Worried-Scallion-205 2h ago

I'll be real with you.
I don't think flying cars will be the future

•

u/Scrappy1918 1h ago

I don’t get this. Is this something I’m too free to understand?

-9

u/here-for-information 14h ago

This sub about calling out stupid and invalid criticism about the USA, seems to be becoming a sub about making stupid and invalid criticisms of the EU.

1

u/Clym44 9h ago

No but it is a bunch of Trump weirdos.
