Right! Poor behavior from an orange that needs to be corrected before he is older. My friend allowed his orange to get away with stuff like this, now he attacks people unprovoked. His new wife just had a baby and she can’t use the bottom half of her own house out fear the cat with attack her or their kid. I still have a bite mark from his attacking me while I used the bathroom

I've learned to grab my cat by the scruff when he's in trouble. He goes from "I'll tear you apart" to "Oh no, I've done somethingc

You really shouldn't scruff cats. It can cause extreme stress and lead to further behavioral issues

u/CottageCheeseJello 6d ago
Do you even cat?
-8
u/joe__kerr1 6d ago
Yes, I do. Scruffing cats erodes trust. It triggers defensive reactions and makes them uncomfortable. Cats require a feeling of control to feel comfortable, and this takes that away. Scruffing a cat older than 6 months can harm them. Most people will lift the cat when scruffing them. Imagine being lifted by the skin of the back of your neck and your entire body's weight hanging off of that small patch of skin. It's incredible dangerous, unhealthy, and possibly harmful to them.
Anyone who actually cats would know this. Vets don't recommend it at all

Amen. Another lazy owner just thinking it’s cute instead what they should.

You actually shouldn't scruff cats. It causes behavioral issues and can ruin or degrade your relationship with them

I think it’s cute. Our cats have only done this twice and it was funny.

You could have just typed "I don't understand animal behavior". Would you say a dog resource guarding is cute too?

is this right?
I've only ever had dogs and I would 1000% be scrunching that scruff

u/joe__kerr1 6d ago
No, it's bad to scruff a cat. Not recommended by vets or behavior experts. It causes distress, can ruin your relationship with them, and leads to further behavioral issues or acting out

what DO you do? its being so rude lol
and surely eating people food/ the bag it's in could be dangerous

u/joe__kerr1 6d ago
Well the kitten flinches when they raise their hand. That shows it's used to this behavior. Cats require a feeling of control and will get defensive and lash out when they lose this.
Cats older than 6 months shouldn't be scruffed. People think it's not harmful because it's loose skin, but imagine being lifted by your neck skin and have the entirety of your weight being held by that one tiny spot. That would be incredibly painful, no? We're also not cats so to them, being scruffed by another species would freak almost any animal out.
Learning body language is heavily recommended. You approach in a non threatening manner, use toys to distract it, give it a treat to make it make it interested in that instead. If you're worried about being scratched, wrap the cat with a towel, it will prevent them from scratching you and allow you a proper grip and control while holding them
I have an orange who loves to steal my girlfriend's jewelry, eat plastic, and get into things he shouldn't. I've never had to hit him, scruff him, raise my hand at him, or anything like OP has done. If you're calm and show non threatening body language, the cat won't be hissing at you like that. Physical punishment does not work on cats, it's all behavioral techniques or practices with them

Grabbing cats by the scruff can causes distress and only exacerbates behavioral issues. There's many other and better ways to train cats
9
u/YakiVegas 6d ago
Yes, that's exactly why all mother cats NEVER grab their kittens by the scruff to move them away from danger etc. /s

u/joe__kerr1 6d ago
Too big to be scruffed by a mom cat. It causes aggression and defensive reactions from them. We're not cats, it's not going to have the same reaction from us picking it up by the scruff as another cat. It's abusive

u/YakiVegas 6d ago
lol ok PETA
2
u/joe__kerr1 6d ago
Downvoting me and calling me PETA doesn't make you right. Scruffing cats is heavily not recommended by any cat expert, vet, or behaviorist. Your lack of knowledge doesn't make scruffing okay

Who would steal pitas from a kitten?!
Leave em alone.

u/Deposto 7d ago
Someone who doesn't want this little gremlin to eat plastic wrap and dough and end up with a blocked intestine.

u/Alert_Long4454 7d ago
Dude, it’s sarcasm.

u/Deposto 7d ago
That doesn't sound like sarcasm. Like, at all.

I have a hard time believing someone is serious about stealing pita from a cat

u/Alert_Long4454 7d ago
Like, yeah, dude, totally. It’s a freaking joke. Of course nobody would want their pet to choke on plastic.

Do you know how many birds have gone extinct since the 80s and today and who is mainly responsible for that other than humans, yeah, they're fkn vicious

u/QuaccDaddy 7d ago
Sir this is an indoor cat

u/andiinAms 7d ago
You’re not wrong. Entire bird species have gone extinct due to cats’ predation.
That’s why mine will only ever go outside on a catio. Protects them in addition to wildlife.
Looks like this goofy lil guy is hopefully an indoor dude.
