Bruh did you seriously try to pet an animal that has little babies? Also why didn't you go to a hospital while you were in Turkey if you are worried about rabies this much?
We normally do not see rabies cases around decent urban locations, but since the end result of "what if we are wrong" is a certain and painful death, I'd say forget the cat and go take the treatment.

It’s nothing, sick cats would never look like the ones in the picture. Stop worrying and enjoy yourself

To begin with, the cat has remained healthy for 10 days, indicating it was not infectious at the time of the incident. Regarding the prevalence of rabies in Turkey, documented cases attributed to feline transmission are exceptionally rare and often disputed due to lack of verification. Furthermore, bites sustained after provoking an animal are clinically classified as low risk. While initiating post-exposure prophylaxis immediately is standard protocol given the critical nature of the virus, no further intervention is required at this stage, as the animal remains asymptomatic and the risk is negligible.

According to the info you provided, she most likely bit you because she has babies, and she also looks very healthy. The type of bite you describe is not an attack, its a kind of warning they do when they dont want you to touch. If it makes you feel better, rabies kills cats very fast, and rabies cases in Turkey are usually observed upon dog attacks in rural areas.

So im safe ? And also i Heard that if the cat is Alive after 10 days its rabies free and its been 11 days so Does that guarantee no rabies ?

u/laboratory_equipment 6d ago
Yes, if she is still free of rabies signs after day 10, then you seem to be safe. I have many cats, and this is not an attack, just a kind warning. The 10 day rule applies for certain animals though (including cats) so if you have a similar situation with a wild animal in the future then definitely run to the hospital.

So im 100% Safe ?

- As far as i know rabies risk should be evaluated individually (i am a healthcare professional, but not in infectious diseases). According to your story, yes currently you are 100% safe.
- I checked the guidelines for you and accordingly, yes you are safe.
- After you were bitten, did you wash the area with soap? If you did not, keep in mind that this decreases the infection risk greatly.
- Do you have any problem in that area like redness, heat or similar? If yes, you may need antibiotics and actually this is more probable than rabies.

It's still better get a shot, don't take the 100% as granted that given by a stranger on internet. People are trying to help you which is good but rabies is no joke.

u/LeatherTop8978 6d ago
Yea but nonetheless if the cat is Alive 10 days after he couldnt trnasmit it and im not at adult so i cant just go get shots and my parents just tell me its nothing and im panicnkign

The cat looks healthy and probably attacked to protect her kittens. Unfortunately, though, this doesn’t mean you’re 100% safe. Although extremely rare, cases of rabies transmitted by cats do occur. I would still recommend making sure that the cat is being observed and remains healthy for some more time.

I am a local from Antalya and I've been bitten/scratched by stray cats countless times since I spent my entire childhood around them. Nothing will happen don't worry. Our strays are generally vaccinated. Also most of the stray cats are being taken care of people who feed them daily(Just my family feed 6 in our neighborhood so you decide :) ) so they know and check their health. So don't worry nothing will happen.

I wouldn’t risk it, was also bitten by a stray kitten a few years ago. I didn’t risk it and got the vaccine, they do 4 or 5 doses as far as I remember and they do in the span of 2-3 weeks.

you need just one shot for tetanus if you haven’t in last years. not for rabies

u/starcase123 4d ago
this!! everyone is scared of rabies and it's not very likely but tetanus shots are very important after being bitten by an animal - it's more likely to happen.

Im staying in a resort at Kemer right now and there’s been mama cat and three kittens visiting on my balcony for days now, I feed them chicken and fish and they’re super friendly, yesterday it was a rainstorm so we just all cuddled in bed the whole day. These cats are lovelier than the ones in my country by a long shot, also theyre so clean, and their fur is so healthy there’s not even one hair stuck to me. I doubt they have rabies here. The cats look better kept than some people I know ;D

Don't worry I got bitten by stray cats in Antalya every 1 or 2 weeks and I'm fine (32 y.o)

u/LuckyShiny3110 2d ago
Probably youre doing okay but to be on the safe side you can get tetanus and rabies shot
1
u/lucycat444 1d ago
This happened to me and I went to the hospital in Istanbul. The doctor said I didn’t need rabies shots because rabies is very rare in cats in Turkey. He said a tetanus booster would be enough but if you have had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years you should be ok

if cat dies before you, you should get vaccinated bro
1
u/LeatherTop8978 9h ago
Yea but after how mamy days do i know im safe
1
u/sorry4partyrockin_ 9h ago
you should observe the cat bit you if she’s aggressive and attacking to other kittens you should get vaccinated its less likely to get rabies from cats but its likely
1
u/LeatherTop8978 9h ago
Its been 18 days and hotel Staff says that she is healthy
1
u/sorry4partyrockin_ 9h ago
18 days is too long for rabies ur fine but just to clear the air you can get vac either
1
u/LeatherTop8978 9h ago
But i dont have to?
1
u/sorry4partyrockin_ 9h ago
in my opinion you dont but just to clear the air you can get. rabies vac protects you until next year

this isn't america, rabies shots are free, you should have just gotten one instead of overthinking. that being said, if it's been 10 days, you're fine and the 4th shot would be unnecessary.
