Question Where to start?

I have never played a Castlevania game before, but I enjoy metroidvania games (HK, Ori, Grime, Mio etc.) in genernel.

For some time know I wanted to try Castlevania and from what I've read so far most of the time Symphony of the Night gets recommended as a starting title for the series. But for now it hasnt arrived on pc yet.

Today I have seen all the Castlevania titels are on a sale on steam and decided to give it a try. But whats a good starting point?

- Anniversary Collection
- Advance Collection
- Dominus Collection
- Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition
- Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD
- Lords of Shadow 2

Question Where to start from the absolute beginning?

Yesterday I came across a few artists who’ve release some absolute bangers, all of which were apparently self-produced (some created entirely on phones). This really sparked my interest and I’m curious as to how one would go about learning from the absolute beginning?

I don’t know anything about music production, music theory, programs, don’t play any instruments, sing, etc. I’m just a big music lover, much like everybody else. Is learning to play an instrument necessary or would I be able to create everything on a computer? Is learning music theory absolutely necessary as well? Where can I learn to create? I feel slightly lost with all there is to learn but am pretty motivated to get started!

The city I live in has a handful of Facebook groups where the intent is community and the spread of information. Unfortunately, there are like 10 people who post on it ALMOST CONSTANTLY with misinformation and AI slop. It’s such a small percentage of people in my city who think this way but this vocal minority has made communication virtually impossible.

Help Bedrock My kids think “software engineer” means I can make Minecraft mods. I have no idea where to start.

4.5k Upvotes

My kids recently discovered that their dad is apparently capable of making Minecraft mods.

I’m a software engineer, so in their minds this is obviously part of the job description.

My son wants a custom pickaxe.
My daughter wants a bumblebee.

I said yes.

Small problem: I’ve never made anything for Minecraft in my life.

They play Bedrock, and while I can obviously figure out the programming side, I have no idea what the actual ecosystem looks like, what people use to build this stuff, what tools I need, where to start, or even what I should be googling.

So I’m asking the people who actually know Minecraft:

If you were a programmer starting from zero with Bedrock today, where would you start?

I have two children waiting for their mods and my professional reputation is at stake.

Recommendations Want to finally commit to a sci-fi series ,where should I start?

Post image

Hey everyone,

I’ve been reading for a while now but only recently started getting deeper into novels especially sci-fi genre. So far, I’ve mostly read standalone sci-fi books stuff like •The Martian by Andy Weir •Project Hail Mary by Andy weir •Dark Matter by Blake crouch •Frankenstein by Mary Shelley •The Time Machine by HG Wells •1984 by George Orwell

My next reads are •Recursion by Blake Crouch and •11/22/63 by Stephen King.

After that, I really want to get into a proper sci-fi series. I looked around and shortlisted about a dozen of the top-recommended ones , the big names that often come up in discussions about the best sci-fi sagas of all time.

I’d love to know:

•Which ones are best to start with?

•Should I begin with the more modern ones (something in the tone of Project Hail Mary), or is it fine to dive straight into the classics like Dune or Foundation?

•Also, since I’m still new to long series, are there any shorter ones (3–4 books) you’d suggest starting with?

•And if you have any more standalone sci-fi recommendations, I’d love to hear those too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Movies where a threat is unknowingly revealed to the audience at the start.

Movies where the villain or antagonist is revealed and the audience has no idea what they are looking at or can’t put together what it could possibly mean.

The Thing: the dog in the beginning of the movie is a host to an alien parasite. In the beginning of the film it is being chased by a man who speaks an unknown language from another base. The man is attempting to shoot the dog but is stopped.

Smile: During the beginning of the movie we see a girl being dragged into a mental hospital telling the staff that they’re making a mistake and that they need to listen to her. She was followed by the smile demon, possessed, then passed the demon onto our main character.

Dad spent years doing impulsive, unmeasured DIY projects in our backyard. Now it's just me and my mom trying to figure out where to start fixing it.

Some context: my dad likes to build, but doesn't believe in pesky little tools like... levels, molds, measurements, etc. My mom stayed quiet about it, hoping he'd stick around. He didn't.

The back porch is the main disaster. It's essentially four projects layered on top of each other:

  1. He extended the porch, then decided to paint it
  2. Didn't like the paint, so poured concrete over the concrete. No forms on the side, so it dried spilled over the edge
  3. Didn't like that either, so tiled over the concrete
  4. Painted the tiles, then tried to strip the paint, so now there are some tiles with patches of paint on them

The layers have built up so much that you can't even put a doormat down without blocking the back door from opening.

He also built a "balcony" that I genuinely wouldn't feel safe standing on for long. Like, the bottom isn't secure, so he put a big random brick on one of the planks to keep it in place. It has random openings in it that raccoons, opossums, and snakes use to crawl through.

Beyond the structures, my mom and I have just avoided the backyard entirely, so there's years of neglect and debris on top of everything else. The backyard now entirely belongs to the stray cats we feed, lol.

I don't even know where to start or what questions to ask. Is the porch something that can even be salvaged? How do you even remove that much concrete? Is it possible to break concrete... affordably? And what on earth can be done about the "balcony" and the ugly shed he built in the corner? Any guidance at all would be really appreciated.

---

Edit: I'm sorry I haven't responded to many of you but know that I've been reading and taking in all of your advice. And I actually have a (work in progress) to-do list now! Having an actual starting point made this project feel doable. I appreciate the help so much.

You all have been speculating that my dad has ADHD, and he probably does, but I was actually diagnosed with it + autism and depression. I was worried that the sudden drive to fix the backyard would be fleeting since trying to form a plan was instantly overwhelming for me, lol. But wow, now I'm a bit excited.

I put a notice in my calendar to come back in a year to update you all. I hope I'm able to do this.

---

Edit 2: Also, to clarify, my dad isn't dead. He just packed up and moved out. I initially wrote this post while I was angry and didn't want to drop the whole family lore on any of you, so I ended up wording the situation too vaguely, lol. There're several complicated messes surrounding my family and I just want to clean up one of the tangible ones.

help Just closed on our home a month ago… at a loss on where to start fixing this crawlspace and water problem

Thumbnail

Wife and I are young homeowners who have never had a crawlspace and we just closed on our home back in April. Inspection had no concerns pertaining to water, foundation issues, or mold and it was dry during our initial walkthroughs and inspection. We’ve had some unprecedented storms and flash flooding recently which has resulted in water getting into our crawlspace, including from the foundation concrete as pictured. There are sections of the wall where condensation is on the foundation slowly dribbling out as well.

I’m panicking not sure where to start or who to call first, plumber? Landscaping company? Right now focusing on getting the water out with a pump and shop vac. The crawlspace does not have a proper sump pump installed. Located out of Kentucky if that helps. Thanks in advance.

So.. Where to start?

Post image

After finally getting all DS and 3DS titles, there comes the announcement of Pokémon Bank closing.. Where to start and how to get the most out of these before February 2027. I have all consoles except a second 3DS.

Edit: Thank you everyone for your suggestions and for sharing your routes for this 6-month journey before the Bank closure. I've decided to start with Pokémon Crystal on 3DS and hunt for shiny Suicune (my favorite) and Celebi, so they'll have the Game Boy mark when I transfer them. After that, I'll play through the demo to get Ash-Greninja and focus on Legendaries and Mythicals that aren't available in later Gens (or are harder to get). Lastly, I'll save the journey of starting from Gen 4 onwards and picking one of each set. Doing both or all of them would be overkill and a lot of unnecessary grinding.

Thank you again everyone for sharing your thoughts and helping me decide! Wishing you all the best on your hunts and journeys in the world of Pokémon!
