Hi all,

As the previous mods had gone AWOL, I have now claimed this sub from Reddit.

I have changed the rules and anyone can now make a post without prior permission being needed.

Please be patient while I go about getting this place in order.

Pain in right side of ribs when breathing.

There is a sharp pain in my right side of my rib and when I breath in it hurts and feels like something is popping like a hose getting air out. If I stretch out the area or put an ice pack the pain goes away for a little bit but comes back almost right away and it really hurts to breathe in. What can I do?

Shortness of breath

For the last 2 months I've been in an almost constant state of shortness of breath. It started out as air hunger every now and then but now it's almost a 24/7 shortness of breath. I'm not gasping for air but my breathing doesn't feel right. My PCP prescribed me an inhaler until my pulmonologist appointment on but it hasn't helped at all. My appointment is November 4th but I'm concerned that something is going to happen to me before then. One of my doctors thinks it could be my gallbladder because I do have gallstones, but would that be causing almost constant shortness of ? I told him I would talk about getting it removed after my pulmonology appointment.

Desperate for Advice

Hi,
I’m 20 years old, female.
I’ve been having this problem since I was about 6, I’ve been to ENT specialists, primary care, rheumatology and had no luck anywhere. everywhere i look online doesn’t have anything matching what i’ve experienced and it’s seriously affecting my quality of life.

Essentially I get strep throat symptoms (i have been tested many times, never positive): unable to swallow, profuse vomiting, muscle pain, confusion. Never a fever. There’s also a specific duration: I start feeling sick in the evening of day 1, I’m unable to eat drink, swallow and constantly vomiting whenever I sit up or move for most/all of day 2 and then day 3 all symptoms are gone except feeling overall weak.

This happens multiple times a year, with only one year (2020-2021, when everyone was wearing masks) where i didn’t get sick at all. When I was 17 there were three weeks in a row that every friday the symptoms would come on. I went to urgent care, they tested me for strep and it was negative but still gave antibiotics, after which it didn’t come back for months. this happened again when I was 18 and same thing with the antibiotics.

Oral steroids (liquid, no idea what exactly) have helped me be able to swallow faster once when i was 11 and once at 18. But last year they had no effect at all. However the urgent care i got them from was insanely sketchy so that might have more to do with it than the steroids themselves.

I very rarely get sick in any other way, no colds, only had the flu once, and almost no fevers in my life. There doesn’t seem to be a hard-and-fast pattern with timing of getting sick either. Definitely more common in fall-winter but there’s been plenty of times i’ve been sick in the spring or summer. I notice it happens mostly when someone i’m in close contact with is sick, but they’ve never had the same symptoms and no one who’s been close to me while i’m sick has developed anything. I’ve also been told (not by any medical professional) it could be stress related, but again this happens at all times and when i’m in all moods/ situations.

I have a history of thyroid issues (i was diagnosed with hashimotos at 15, but “undiagnosed” (?) at 17 and told my antibody levels were borderline, and my mother has hashimotos disease. A few members of my family have celiac but that doesn’t seem relevant to this.

My nutrition has never been good and is especially deficient in vitamin c. however over the 14 years since i started getting sick my diet has varied widely and it never seems to have impacted this.

I do have mental health concerns: autism, adhd, ocd, bipolar and ptsd. I don’t know if this has anything to do since the onset of most symptoms is most pronounced after when I started experiencing these symptoms. I was going through trauma when I first got sick like this, but again no idea if it’s relevant.

I also don’t think my medications are relevant for same reason as above but I started taking adderall and lamotrigine at 15 and in the two years i’ve started taking spironolactone and guanfacine.

When I was 3 I was hospitalized for not being able to breathe. It resolved with steroids, but there was never a cause found. no idea if this is related i’m just grasping at anything.

As a toddler/baby i also had recurrent ear infections again no idea if this is relevant but providing as much info as i can.

Any possibility, literally ANYTHING is helpful. I’m currently sick again during midterms (I’m a STEM major so it’s pretty bad lol, this also happened last ) and I’m so tired of having no idea what to do. This is so painful and if there’s any way to at least get an answer that’s all i’d want

Child keeps getting sick with the same symptoms every 2 weeks

Since the first school weekend when school started my 4 year old got sick with a fever, sore throat and his eyes were burning, I took him to the doctor and she said it’s most likely a virus and she didn’t see anything wrong his throat was clear, eyes and ears everything looked normal l. 2 weeks later same symptoms again and again it started in the weekend, I took him to the doctor she said another virus or allergies but it couldn’t have been allergies since he had a fever 🤦🏻‍♀️. 2 weeks later again same exact symptoms, it started on the weekend i took him to his doctor again and asked for her to check for the flu or strep
Everything came back clear, she said since school starts kids come home with different viruses everytime and of course I already know that, I have a big family at home and we always get sick but I have 5 kids at home, 5!!!! No one else got sick it has only been my 4 year old 😣
Why does he get sick like clockwork with the same symptoms always starting in the weekend and it only lasts for like 2-3 days? His teacher said no one in his class is sick either. This is so frustrating because I don’t have any answers as to why he’s getting sick every 2 weeks with the exact same symptoms and always starting the same day in the weekend. Should I get a second opinion? I’m really getting worried

Very painful upper back, shoulders and neck

Has family history of autoimmune disease

Tested for lupus and ra and négative results

Negative results for celiac disease

X-rays two years back didn't indicate any swallowing in knees or hands

Sometimes is fine with milk and occasionally not, but some foods also randomly seem to trigger her at times and not at other times

does anyone recognise these symptoms?

okay im all out of ideas, so im turning to the land of niche answers that id never get anywhere else. i am a 16 year old girl, 5'5, 150lbs and for the past roughly 3-4 years i havent been able to eat without getting sick. every morning i wake up nauseous if i dont already throw up as soon as i get up. every time i eat, i feel sick right after and half the time i throw up afterwards. it gets good sometimes for a certain time period (like 2-6 months) and then im sick for the next 4-8 months if not longer. we've (my mom and i) tried to limit it to certain foods to see if it was celiac or something of the sort, but it varies. some days i can eat something and feel fine, some days i can eat the same thing and throw up right after. portion size seems to be irrelevant, as ive both eaten a single granola bar and a whole cheeseburger on seperate occasions and felt the same way afterward: nauseous. adding on to that, i cant eat very much without getting super sick. im talking i used to be able to crush 2 cheeseburgers no problem, and now i cant even finish a full one most days. ive been put on a liquid diet now to try and prevent this, but im miserable on it and no doctor can figure out whats wrong. im either brushed off because they think i have an eating disorder, think im lying for attention, think its anxiety, or completely brush me off and misdiagnose me (went to the doctor recently and she put me on pantoprazole after i explained theres nothing to do with acidity). i had an eating disorder when i was younger (recovered a few months before it started i think), had some intestinal and digestive issues when i was young (around 4-6) and had bad stomach acidity issues when i was in middle school that was quickly resolved (like, after a few months it was gone). i have no idea what to do, because no doctor will listen to me and i cant get recommended to a proper specialist because of that issue, so now im here. Has anyone experienced this, or seen someone with something similar? i feel it would be easier to talk to my doctor about if i had something to compare it to or treatments other people have gone through for similar things i could talk to them about.

Safe use of plant based Phyto valocordin

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I am a 36 year old male, physically active, average 20k steps per day mon-friday excluding weekends where its gym activity. I take methylated multivitamin, omega 3, Nattokinase, a 12-1 magnesium, ginseng with ginkgo Biloba, pumkinseed oil and blackseed oil, and i have been taking liposomal glutathione lately as my stress levels and diet have taken a crashing turn and i wanted to give my liver a little boost. I do this everyday (not all at once but over a 24 hour period) I drink nearly a gallon of water everyday and occasionally take over counter NSAIDS for muscle pain.

About a week or two ago i researched this plant based holistic called Phyto valocordin (a plant based version) and i read up about a casual warning of toxicity since it includes Lilly of the Valley and Adonis herb; it said those are cardiac glycosides and that I need to be careful. I have a picture of the bottle here.

Please let me know if the valocordin may interfere in some way

Massive Hangover

So, two nights ago (Friday night 10/16 @ 1AM) I drank way too much much for my age and height, which I drank a lot before but have no clue why this happened. Anyways, I ended up puking a lot and passing out at a party in my college. My boyfriend’s roommate ended up getting an RA to the room, and I ended up being hospitalized (I do not recall any of this by the way, just woke up in a hospital bed near my boyfriend). That morning when we got back to the room, I was completely dizzy when I woke up, my head was POUNDING, my stomach felt HORRIBLE and I couldn’t walk straight. Today is 10/18 on a Sunday, at 5:57PM and I still feel a little dizzy and my stomach has a slight pain to it. Not as bad as yesterday. I ate two bananas, two pieces of toast, drank 12oz of Powerade, drank 24oz of water, and I am about to nap. Why do I still feel bad the next day? I thought it only takes one day for recovery? Can someone give me some tips and advice please. For reference, I am a female, 19, 140lbs, 5’2, and I had 1 1/2 of a 99 watermelon nip, 3 Smirnoff ice bottles (5.00%), and four 1.5oz shots of vodka mixed with cranberry juice.

Constant pain every day

For context, 22(F), My grievances are with being ill, confused, pain etc.

I just don't know what to do anymore.

I've dealt with a plethora of (mental) disorders that I don't feel comfortably listing publicly, as a result of intense childhood and (recent) traumas. The most recent event has lead all of my physical issues to worsen as well as my mental, but it brought way more attention to physical issues I had in the past (starting around 11), to present.

This year, I started pelvic floor therapy due to bodily trauma after a very horrible event; however my issue is the fact that my doctor has not taken any of my physical health issues seriously at all.

My PT has said to ask my doctor about POTS and getting tested for endometriosis but I am terrified.
All my blood shows is low iron and a few other things that weren't 'too abnormal'.

In the past I've had a history of documenting abdominal pains with my doctors (as far back as 2016) - got diagnosed with PMDD this year according to OBGYN (and ovarian cysts/PCOS/endo runs in my family) however nothing else came out of it. Ultrasound back in 7th grade that didn't show anything wrong, none since then.
I've detailed my pains, as well as sinus tachycardia + every day feeling exhausted; headaches, and now, 'jello' legs. Every day I feel these abdominal pains, enough to get goosebumps and double over at work.

I try and do what they recommend too- I don't take anymore meds, I just self medicate only which does help with the pain I feel bodily + keeps my mental health in check since I'm not on medication anymore.

My general everyday pain consists of upper back stiffness and pain (which is a given, I've had trauma to my C1 and C2 as well as two instances of hurting my back as a child)
Biggest grievance is intense abdominal pain. It happens on my period, after, before, anytime, in the same place each time. Left side, near my ovary. Every so often I'll get 'jelly' legs where I shake and have a hard time walking for no reason. I've never had those types of issues before (legwise.)
Fatigue, general exhaustion even when I try and eat good + exercise.
Weakness in body, unable to hold or lift a lot. Very low pain tolerance.
Elevated heart rate even when resting (which I've chalked all of this to anxiety, even when I'm not experiencing it.)

Sorry for the long post, I'm at a complete loss and crying constantly due to the pain and I don't know what to do.
